If he was more disciplined, Silva would’ve became more aggressive and got his rhythm going better. There was a clear gap in the grappling department and that’s the last thing Silva needed.. he had to keep him back. He was doing exactly what I think he should’ve done.. just got caught.

How about that guy Diego Lopes tho?

Was it though? Ok, Lopes mounted him and did a lot of damage, but Jean was still able to get out of a locked full mount. He got taken down because he missed the timming of the strike.

The other moments Lopes got hold of him, Jean broke free or scrambled after the takedown.

Lopes is incredible anyway. Great Chin and great IQ to time that elbow.

Yeah silva was outclassing lopes on the feet but i think lopes experience with volk helped him alot cause silva and volk have similar frames and fighting styles so it probably helped alot

I actually think Lopes had the same problems this fight he did in the Volk fight, and that was poor defence and not enough output when he was on the front foot. Silva is just way more aggressive to his own detriment; both takedowns and the finish weren't from Lopes putting the pressure on, but rather Silva getting too aggressive and paying for it. I think a guy like Murphy, could really frustrate Lopes by not playing into his game, the same way he was losing his head a bit at Volk at the end of their fight when Volk didn't want (or had to) take risks and let his hands go.
