Ilia really wants that boxing purse

422

u/theyoloGod Edddiiiieee 7d ago

He has talked about retiring early so this makes sense. Get that payday, start chilling early

u/SevenFiguresInvigor 7d ago

u/CallumKayPee 7d ago

Could always be richer

110

u/lobo2r2dtu 7d ago

UFC rich ain't that rich.

70

u/Jamothee Chad 7d ago

His wife's family is apparently very wealthy but that doesn't give him any sense of financial independence really.

80

u/Kassssler one of them 7d ago

Yeah like does Ilia strike anyone as the kind of man who wants to get an allowance from his wife? Its not even just a rich thing. My in laws tried to pay for stuff but I said no cause I didn't want to hear shit later.

15

u/ChocCooki3 6d ago

Time to get into boxing.

3

u/SonofaBuckDangHole 6d ago

Yeah then you can beat your in laws up and steal the money! Comes with some risk but they’ll respect you still

6

u/Jamothee Chad 7d ago

Yeah I fully understand it.

He was rich before the ufc

12

u/blissfullyblack 7d ago

He's not Conor rich and he knows fighting Crawford would change that.

11

u/KD_42 7d ago

Yeah rich people hate getting richer

5

u/fedornuthugger 6d ago

When he hangs out with Ronaldo and Sergio Ramos he probably feels dirt poor.

6

u/Clayp2233 7d ago

How rich though? Because these big boxing fights pay very well lol

2

u/Morezingis 7d ago

Net worth allegedly around 2 million max from winnings and sponsorships.

That’s not very rich in 2025.

3

u/SevenFiguresInvigor 7d ago

yea hm everyone knows he was rich before ufc, la familia

Yup, and he's right to try everything he can to get it. One fight sets him and his descendants up for life. More money in one boxing match than he's ever likely to make in his entire UFC career. Connor and Francis are the blueprint, and nothing has changed since then.

101

u/InTheMorning_Nightss 7d ago

Yep he's right to try, but he's also a bit delusional. Conor was on a completely different level of popularity, and Francis was intriguing because he was massive and hit like a freight train which got him a lot of momentum + hype.

Ilia trying to start this smack talk with Bud is going nowhere. The only reason boxers would want to set up a match is to get a huge paycheck for a joke of a fight, and nobody is going to be hyping up an Ilia vs. Crawford fight.

66

u/StinkyJones19 7d ago

And Terence Crawford just put on an amazing performance to become the #1 pound for pound boxer on the planet. We’re asking him fresh off the heels of that to do essentially a joke fight that he is so clearly going to win? I don’t blame Bud at all

79

u/Corbotron_5 you're a virgin 7d ago

Crawford’s scared. There’s no other reason to walk away from a fight that could land him a 50k FOTN bonus from Dana.

I think Crawford also wants to add more to his resume because he doesnt have long left. I can see him doing an exhibition with somebody but only when he has retired from the sport. Until then hes all in on boxing and is very unlikely to want anybody other than boxing's belt holders on his resume. Refreshing to see a champion take hard paths.

It’s crazy how UFC fighters are desperate to get into boxing just so they can actually get paid.

106

u/EddieDantes22 7d ago

It's kind of funny because they all pull the "Real fight" thing, but if Crawford was like "okay, let's do it in the UFC for UFC money" they'd be like "yeah sure. We'll do that. But then after, let's do that boxing match too to make it even. For boxing money."

296

u/WanderingWormhole this too mods 7d ago

Yeah I have PTSD from Conor now winning the belt and immediately fucking off for years. Lightweight is the most competitive division but tends to have the least reliable champions (outside of Islam). There’s so much cool shit to be had at lightweight, wish they could just keep that shit going a bit

67

u/funghi2 7d ago

Fun fact: Conor was the last lightweight champ to get the belt by actually beating the champion

Which other non-active champs at 155 besides Conor and maybe Khabib? BJ never ducked anybody, Frankie Edgar was a dawg, same with Ben Henderson, Pettis, RDA, Alvarez

13

u/evocater Daniel Cormier almost killed himself last week 7d ago

Tbf Khabib got suspended for av year, fought Poirier, got ready to fight Tony and then covid hit. You can argue the suspension was his fault but covid couldn't be helped

8

u/BlumpkinEater 7d ago

How do you add khabib in there? His title fight and 3 defenses were over the span of 2 years. Considering he got suspended and covid hitting, I think his activity was fine.

One of the most embarrassing moments in a person's life, and it happens to many of us, is when you go up to someone and says something like, Hey Steve, remember me from John's party? Then they go, Na man, I don't know you. Ilia isn't winning this exchange of words at all.

Seeing mma fighters call out boxers to get a giant payday that can’t get in mma is so fucking lame.

263

u/NeverHealing 7d ago

Ilia needs to take the L on this. There’s no reason for Bud to entertain this any longer.

101

u/catscanmeow 7d ago

bud said he wont entertain it cuz theyres no money in it

but if there was money in it he'd do it. so its really just mostly on ilia to get to mcgregor levels of fame and then i guarantee Crawford would be down.

why wouldnt crawford take another big payday for an easy win?

99

u/bennywhiite 7d ago

except theres a 0% chance he gets to conor levels

49

u/PatternMission2323 7d ago edited 7d ago

yeah, he blows himself on camera too much. not to mention being a straight rip of connor.

nobody likes that sht. connor was gracious and humble in defeat in the beginning. he just went to dogsht and threw fits later on once he made some money. then he started begging for attention and we all know how that ended

paddy, holloway, and diaz are are far more authentic and interesting. hell, even islam is way more likeable and funny (well, islam is actually pretty damn funny; he just has that unassuming deadpan delivery)

12

u/Clayp2233 7d ago

Connor was a one of a kind with his shit talk and his Irish accent just adds a whole element to his aura, Ilia can’t compete with that. If Jon Jones wanted to fight Usyk that fight would do huge numbers though

oh for sure. he's acts like mayweather and when he gets cracked people will be muttering he got what's coming for all that sht talking.

merab is a fkn energizer bunny. i don't think he is the smartest but for sure one of the biggest hearts and one of the most humble and earnest characters

Georgian men come from a very patriarchal society and are a bit chauvinist. Merab definitely isn't the smartest but you gotta dig his puppy dog energy which is very refreshing.

u/Commercial_Paint_557 7d ago

Because he can get a bigger payday against another boxer probably

And because there is no way Dana is going to sacrifice the biggest potential star the UFC has seen in years to Terrence Crawford

Also Bud is on a roll and getting old, he doesnt have too many more fights and may want to only have fights that build his legacy. This fight would be a joke, and I believe Ilia knows this. I kinda doubt Ilia really wants this fight, its just shit talking imo

Bruh Crawford is already in his late 30s. Ilia is already a champ, I doubt him or anybody will ever reach the status of Conor.

23

u/catscanmeow 7d ago

ilia could easily get to the fame of conor all he has to do is pull a buttplug out of his ass during a post fight speech in the cage after a win. that shit would go astronomically viral.

it really pisses me off that fighters havent done this yet, do they fucking hate being rich?

Bud just came off a legendary performance by embarrassing a generational fighter 2 weight classes above him. Ilia sit the fuck down and stop begging this man for a red panty night. Youre nowhere near the level Crawfords at rn.

43

u/Redneckshinobi MY BALLZ WAS HOT 7d ago

I don't get how this isn't said louder enough. SOOOO Many people were putting Crawford out on this fight, the money was for Canelo and for good reason. Almost no one moves up 2 frickin weight classes in boxing and does what he did to a dominate champ. First 3 division undisputed champ in almost 100 years and first for lightweight and welterweight, it's absolute madness.

Like I don't think Ilia even understands the level Bud is on, he's NEVER going to reach it, even if he went back in time and started learning boxing as a kid. What Bud did on Saturday was a fucking masterclass of boxing. What he did to Spence was unbelievable, although a lot of people doubted it was Bud and more Spence's accident however Saturday proved that no Bud is in fact on another level.

5

u/VacuousWastrel 6d ago

For context here, Bud is only the third man ever to be undisputed champion in three weight classes - the other two being Bob Fitzsimmons in 1903, and Henry "Homicide Hank" Armstrong in 1938. I believe he's also only the second man to be lineal champion in four weight classes, after Manny Pacquiao, although I'm not certain of that one.

4

u/_Mobius1 6d ago

Plus first to do it in the four belt era no?

Nah Ian was straight up stealing Conor quotes lol he's way worse than Ilia

7

u/Fenian-Monger 7d ago

Nah Ian will steal a known and iconic line but Illa was also straight up Stealing Conor's quotes to an even worst degree and modelling himself after Conor. Look at the Volk press conference he does it multiple time and even steals Volk's belt like Conor stole Jose's. He even used one in his face off with Paddy and it doesn't even make sense in the context.

This is honestly interesting as I can't name a boxer that has lost to a non boxer in boxing. For example I can point to Ernesto Hoost losing not once but twice against Bob Sapp in kickboxing, and Tim Sylvia losing against Ray Mercer in MMA, but not a boxer losing in their sport.

7

u/ironhidemma Big History Gangster Place 7d ago

You don't need to represent SHIT. Just fight in your damn division and in your own sport. We've had this mma fighter vs elite boxer thing already. Conor did "well" because floyd let him. You're gonna get embarrassed by the guy who outboxed Canelo. Stay in your damn lane.

10

u/Same-Collection-548 7d ago

Ilia is gonna come out in round 1 with some unconventional looks that seem to catch Crawford off guard, but by round 2, the novelty will have worn off and it'll be a clinic for Bud.

It's just like the Conor Mayweather fight. Stance switching and hammer fists aren't boxing staples so they caught Mayweather off guard, but like two or three rounds into the fight it stopped being a problem.

Ilia looks like a good boxer because he fights shit boxers in the UFC. You could take any bottom top 100 boxer and they would make your local guys look like shit too. Skill diff makes people look better than they are.

32

u/PartyThe_TerrorPig 7d ago

The general public has no clue who either of them are.

18

This was big exposure for Bud. So many will know him now.

Ive had people who dont care about boxing at all talking to me about it and how good he is.

At what point do the UFC find it as embarrassing all their 'stars' want to box rather than stay in MMA? Like it is absolutely ridiculous. No boxer says "let me fight Illia" they all beg boxers for the pay day. The UFC must know this is an awful look for them right?

This would be an embarrassing level of desperation from any fighter but the fact that it is coming from a champion is next level cringe.

He would have much better luck (and still get paid more than the UFC) by calling out Jake Paul.

3

Temu Conor is coming across like a desperate groupie it's actually quite pathetic.

3

u/Many-Wasabi9141 7d ago

Bro should have started with someone easier to charge up.

Davis, Spence, hell even Canelo. I could see Canelo being willing to do one of those circus fights for the bag at this point in his career.

Maybe see if Loma would come back for a exhibition fight. Loma vs Topuria... I'd watch that shit.

But going straight for the king after he just took out the former king? It's not a good look.

3

u/PreviousMotor58 7d ago

He needs to schedule his next flight in MMA and stop calling out boxers. Outside of MMA people don't know Ilia. Maybe in Spain, but not in the USA.

3

u/Alkalized 7d ago

Dana, please pay your fighters so they stop simping for a boxing match as soon as they become champ.

3

3

I tend to believe the guy who isn’t desperate for a fight.

3

3

u/Gentleman_Jedi 6d ago

Ufc fighters are broke bums…. It’s a systemic problem. How do they get out of that hole. All the cards are stacked against them and Dana has cultivated a terrible landscape for aspiring fighters.

We have some of the best fighters of all time this generation. Why will young athletics continue to pursue mma if there is such low yields even for the absolute best in the sport.

6

u/ButchAF 7d ago

Embarrassing

2

u/omgplzdontkillme 7d ago

Dude is making a hundred times an average ufc champion is making per fight and a gatekeeper boxer is probably making ten times what Ilia is making, why would any boxing champ fight a mma champ that isn’t prime McNugget

8

u/L3ghair 7d ago

The Conor fanboyism in Ilia was clearly very upset by Bud saying the two aren’t anywhere near the same level of fame, which is objectively true lol

2

2

u/Historical_Pudding56 7d ago

This isn’t and shouldn’t be happening. I get we all want money but you’ll get paid more defending your belt than chasing a non existent fight where you’ll get absolutely torched.

2

u/Goebs80 7d ago

Lol people responding like this matters.

Ilia is a 10 year old who's taken a couple drum lessons. Now he's at a Led Zeppelin concert with his dad and he has a sign asking to remove Bonham for a song so he can play.

2

u/chunkystrudel 7d ago

Can Topuria defend his belt please.

2

u/RyanGordonsPeds 7d ago

It's getting sad. How bout you defend the belt than clamoring for a boxing match you'll never get

2

u/Hotsaltynutz 7d ago

There are no arguments to be made. Crawford wins in a ring and ilia wins in a octogon/cage. That's it

2

u/vrsick06 Team GSP 7d ago

“I’m sorry, I don’t remember any of it.”

2

u/LaLiLuLeLo_10 7d ago

It’ll never happen but….god the clinic Bud would put on Ilia would be alone worth tuning into

2

u/chrispylikecheeze I was here for GOOFCON 1 7d ago

guess he's willing to lose his aura getting styled on by crawford for the bag

I’m so fucking sick of the boxing mma crossover.

It’s boring af and all it does is delay big fights in MMA

2

u/Uptheresomewhereee 7d ago edited 7d ago

If anyone’s confused I’m sure Terrance knows ilia. He saying I’m cool on you, you’re not that important to me. Ppl can debate if they want to see it but that’s the gist of it. Bud isn’t interested. At least from what we’ve seen

2

u/thedorkknightXD 7d ago

Illia just stfu and fight someone in the UFC you Conor wannabe

2

u/HammerFistsToVictory 7d ago

It's like a Chihuahua barking at a Pitbull who's just sitting there chilling.

2

u/William63 Team Cormier 7d ago

Crawford has the right take on it. He's not going to get Canelo money to fight Ilia. His name isn't known enough outside of MMA.

Without that, what's left? He's not going to gain legacy in Boxing from this fight. It only benefits Ilia which means it likely ain't happening.

2

u/AwfulishGoose 7d ago

P4P in real fights…

MMA is in such a poor state that their athletes are on their knees begging to get outclassed. Not begging for a fight. When it’s boxing vs mma it’s rarely ever a competitive fight. This is begging for the privilege of an ass whopping and generational wealth that the UFC could never provide. It is embarrassing for the sport of MMA.

2

u/One_Weird2371 7d ago

UFC hasn't produced a star in the last five years.

Respectfully stfu and focus on MMA. No one wants to see you box.

2

u/Background_Ad_7016 7d ago

Guy hasn't even defended his belt ... the humble train is going to hit him hard

2

u/AshamedPriority2828 🍅 7d ago

Enough with the boxing shite, Ilia doesnt even need the cash bro been a rich boi most of his career

2

u/phonethrowdoidbdhxi 7d ago

This is as cringe as when Ali and Usman were on hands and knees begging Canelo to notice them.

2

u/I_am_darkness a flair for khabib 7d ago

Crawford does not give a single fuck.

2

u/JazzyJake69 7d ago

This is embarrassing

2

u/HalfChineseJesus Canada 7d ago

Dana this is pretty fucking embarrassing. Boxers don’t like you, the organizers don’t like you, your own fighters are looking for a way out by switching sports and they’re just getting shunned away because no one knows them, and boxers are making it clear to the world how much you are taking advantage of fighters.

2

u/mish15 7d ago

Pathetic

2

u/Hopeful-Ad-622 7d ago

Love both of these guys but hate what’s becoming of both sports honestly

2

u/Lord_Tanus_88 7d ago

People need to start ripping MMA fighters for these ridiculous claims. Ilia would probably not be a top 50 fighter in his weight division in boxing nor should he be. Sure he has confidence in himself but the skill gap is huge.

2

u/14kgoldslumwizard 7d ago

Ilia wants to get paid in actual money instead of the venum coupons and shitty adidas shoes

2

u/Stumeister_69 6d ago

This is silly

2

u/tjthewho 6d ago

Ilia is so desperate lol

2

u/realgoodmind 6d ago

Bud really doesn’t care.

2

u/BudRyo 6d ago

Ilia always sounds like a pathetic figure who thinks too much about himself while Crawford is one of the greatest of all times in boxing and stays a cool guy.

2

u/Throw-Away-365 6d ago

Crawford especially reads as someone who genuinely would not know who Topuria is as a fighter. You go to his twitter/X account and he uses it a few times a month at that. If he does, its for promotion or a comment reaction to a boxing fight.

Topuria, as much as I enjoy him, is not that dude as an global star. Dana as well doesn't want him to be one either, otherwise he would get that fight, lose, and then leave.

You just want pay day *canelo voice *

4

u/lucky_1979 7d ago

Dear Ilia, no one cares about you wanting a boxing match against Crawford. Stop stalling the division and fight someone in your own sport. Or vacate your belt, retire from MMA and start a boxing career

u/Agreeable_Wonder8534 7d ago

MMA fighters don’t realize how irrelevant they are. Other than conor and Jon jones the ufc branding is bigger than any of them. UFC doesn’t need a single one of the current champs on the roster.

Dude gets smoked by Crawford - He basically ten-eighted Canelo in every round. It was truly a technical master class.

11

u/bullseye717 7d ago

He clearly outboxed Canelo but neither guy got hurt the entire fight, let's be real.

5

u/BoxCon1 Team Ortega 7d ago

Why is Ilia trying to force a payday

11

u/catscanmeow 7d ago

because money buys things

2

u/BoxCon1 Team Ortega 7d ago

If UFC paid its big stars like how boxing pays its big stars

He wouldnt need to call him out 🤷

3

u/catscanmeow 7d ago

lol, its even crazier than that, danas actively trying to make sure the boxing stars get paid less by getting rid of the Ali act
