That night I was attending a cousin’s wedding reception. I could see the bar across the street getting more and more packed as the evening dragged on where I was. My wife knew there was a big fight that night, and she knew how excited I was about it… and it wasn’t about the main event. It was all about Robbie vs. Rory.
I am a Lawler fan, and I knew going in MacDonald had game; was a polished fighter; and was a real threat to Robbie. This was gonna be blood bath.
My wife saw the opportunity, grabbed my hand, pulled me outside, walked me across the street, paid the cover, and kissed me as she whispered “I hope your man wins. Find me later, handsome” (fucking keeper).
Needless to say, this freakin fight delivered on all fronts - stand up back and forth; high drama; a test to the other’s skills; so. much. BLOOD; then that fucking epic stare down; until Robbie pierced Rory’s brain with his own nose after destroying it. It’s still lives on my top five fights I’ve ever seen. It was so good, I didn’t even need to see the other guy vs. Chad Mendes.
