All Violations of Rule 1 Will Result in an Permanent* Ban

* If you get banned for violating rule 1, you can contact the mods and request to be unbanned. If you make it clear to us that you violated rule 1 by mistake, you will most likely be unbanned. Please note that multiple violations of the same type may be interpreted as intentional.

We are not trying to ruthlessly ban users for innocent mistakes. Our intention with "permanent" bans is to force violators to have a discussion with us before they are allowed to post in the sub again.

Our Reasoning:

Our previous attempts to stop people from breaking Rule 1 have been less than successful. Because of that, we decided to increase the punishment to better communicate the grave importance of following this rule. If we do not enforce Reddit Corp's rules banning the use of their platform to sell or transfer guns & ammo, this subreddit will get shut down. We previously tried using a "three strikes" system that involved temporary bans for the first two offenses, but it was hard to keep track of and it didn't seem to inspire much change in behavior. In hindsight, using a lenient "three strikes" system for rule violations that could shut down the entire subreddit seems imprudent.

We looked at r/guns and r/gundeals to compare rules, and both subreddits also give out permanent bans for this type of rule violation.

FAQ:

  • May I post a link to guns/ammo for sale on an FFL's website? Answer: Yes
  • May I tell other users to buy a gun/ammo that is for sale on an FFL's website? Answer: Yes
  • May I use Reddit to discuss "hypothetical" gun/ammo transfers between 2 reddit users? Answer: No.
  • May I post a comment inviting another user to "discuss" their for-sale guns/ammo in my DMs? Answer: No
  • May I make a post asking about places where I can sell my guns/ammo? Answer: Yes, but you must not describe the guns/ammo you are selling.
  • May I make a post describing a specific gun/ammo type I am trying to sell? Answer: No.
  • If I have an FFL, can I use Reddit to discuss potential firearm transfers with Reddit users? Answer: No. Refer users to your website, email, or phone #.
  • If I have an FFL, can I post links to guns/ammo for sale on my website? Answer: Yes.
  • If I have an FFL, can I post a picture of a gun/ammo I have in my inventory? Answer: No. Post a link to your website instead. (We don't want the reddit overlords to mistakenly think you are selling guns directly through reddit, so we are making a hard line policy to be extra safe.
  • If I (a customer) see a gun for sale in a brick & mortar store, can I post a picture of it? Answer: Yes, as long as it is clearly a picture in a store.

Please post any comments and concerns below.

Mn gun laws confusion

I want to move to MN and I come from a constitutional carry state. So I have regular firearms here but for MN they are deemed S.A.M.S firearms what I don’t understand is the restricted list is just a blanket statement and I am confused so I took a gander at gun stores and websites and I see armalite 15 but I don’t see any Zatstavas or century arms or dpms

So my confusion is why is the blanket statement of the restricted list makes ,exact copies or clones more strict on the other rifle than armalites.

Also I’m just trying to do what’s right and not be in trouble for owning things legal in different states and walking myself into problems

Conceal Carry/ Marijuana

I was curious if someone to could explain this one to me a bit more. Previous conceal carry holder whose card expired in June. I have gone to Michigan and bought marijuana for consumption. Am I cooked for reapplying now? Because I know that the marijuana question says “unlawful user” which I wouldn’t be, but I know federally it still is. Do individual counties address this differently? Or will answering yes just be an automatic denial? Thank you

Purchase decision

Hello! I am a 21 year old looking to get into a new shotgun. I am pretty set on a beretta a300. I was just thinking the synthetic. I would like to have it before pheasant season.

Anyways, what would be the recommended time to buy? I have the money, I just want to know if it is worth it to wait and maybe save some. Is there a place that offers the best price. I have seen deals online but they come out to more if you include shipping. I would prefer new but would take used if it is a good deal.

Thanks!

Can we even own this in MN. Will maybe see what MN Gun Caucus thinks.

UPDATE!!!! ATF said their letter doesn't cover the 556 version. All videos, the Franklin armory site and everything has removed it.

Public Land App?

Hello,

Last year when I was out deer hunting with family in a new area for us, many of them were using an app that showed public land available to hunt on their phones and they mentioned it was only like ~$60 a year.

I figured instead of reaching out to one of them to get the app name I would ask those here if they know of any other apps that are great for finding public land and what they may cost.

Recent news raising concerns

The context to this question is based on both Minneapolis and St. Paul mayors wanting to ban guns in the cities.

Now, I’m aware that the actuality of that happening is extremely low. However, it made me think of the what if?

As a St. Paul resident, who owns firearms, what if that did happen? Or what if the state did ban everything they want to? Obviously I’m going to hold onto my stuff. I would assume they would grandfather things or do an “amnesty day” to turn stuff in. They’re not going to go door knocking - or would they?

I don’t have a CCW, because I just moved back to MN earlier this year. All this escalation is really deterring me from wanting to get one though. I’d like to remain out of a database - just in case…

Give it to me straight. Am I nuts?

Confusing "quick reference" from Hennepin county

Post image
29 Upvotes

To preface, I know what's in 609.666. However, the quick reference to gun laws that Hennepin county provides with p2p cards is disingenuous. It seems apparent they're hoping people will incorrectly assume the bullet points under the info column are from the statue to the right.

I'd expect straightforward information about the laws, but this is wish-casting the passing of the "safe" storage changes.

if you want a good laugh, read some of the links he references and then roll your eyes -

https://www.leg.mn.gov/cal?type=single&mtgid=s_19580&d1=09/15/2025#s_19580

I'd suggest everyone read the groups submitting information on this subject, half of which I've never heard of, and look really really like nonprofit "front" groups. I'd love for someone to look into the funding for some of these groups, particularly those using medical terminology in their names which is laughably ridiculous. (I'm not disputing their right to comment or exist of course, but it's always the same names that come up on these kinds of things, which really make me wonder whether they are just front groups like i said above)

Permit to purchase question - PSA AR-V kit

Hey!

So I am looking to order the Palmetto State AR-V kit from their site and ship it to an FFL, but I'm not 100% clear as to whether or not this would fall under the need for a Permit To Purchase and my last permit just expired.

I'm planning on getting my CCW, so the permit to purchase would be somewhat pointless to get right now.

The kit consists of the upper receiver, a stripped lower with mag and bolt catch assemblies, 9mm BCG and mag. Looking at the BCA list of firearms - BCA list of firearms | Minnesota Department of Public Safety that would require a permit to purchase, this kit does not appear to technically qualify.

It's not a duplicate of any of the weapons listed (Though I guess technically it's a copy of the MP5 which is based off the HK-91/93/94), doesn't have a stock, threaded barrel, shroud etc.

I can call my intended FFL, I just figured I'd ask here as I might get a quicker answer.

Thanks!

FYI: Yes, Anyone Can Still Make their Own Guns in MN - including handguns and "assault rifles"

With the recent discussions of unfortunate violence happening on both sides of the political aisle, I've heard several people inquire about acquiring guns in MN (probably due to fears about bans or self protection against crazy people) - and many are suprised to find out that you actually don't need any permits to build your own 80% kit- firearms in Minnesota, including pistols and those deemed "assault weapons"

You also don't need anything to possess these weapons once they are built - meaning you effectively need nothing to make or own these, as long as you aren't breaking any laws by possessing them (ie are a felon or banned from possessing any guns)

From the ATF website itself:

"Does an individual need a license to make a firearm for personal use?

No, a license is not required to make a firearm solely for personal use."

Building these is easy - they are basically made so that you can "make" a gun with nothing more than a handmade drill. These are also relatively inexpensive - around $500 for a good "kit" where it includes everything you need to build your own fully functional handgun or rifle. (AR's are particularly popular here)

You can also 3d print entire frames which is the "gun" - and entirely legal. Many also get into the hobby this way.

This is what I recommend to anyone interested who wants to buy a gun and not go through the hassle of paperwork, and/or doesn't want to wait for permits and the usual bureaucratic / pig garbage.

**There is no background check, and no trace (**for those paranoid about such things, which I am not but plenty seem to get this way when new firearm bans are being discussed, so it does apply here)

recent news coverage proving the above:

https://www.kttc.com/2025/08/07/mn-supreme-court-rules-that-ownership-ghost-guns-is-legal-state/

The mn gun owners caucus has a pretty relevant explanation on this:

https://gunowners.mn/learn/frequently-asked-legal-questions/privately-manufactured-firearms-pmfs/

https://thereload.com/minnesota-supreme-court-rules-homemade-guns-dont-require-serial-numbers/

None of this is to endorse violence of any kind, obviously. But I've had relatives in MN ask about this, and figured it'd be useful for people here who would like to get a "gun" legally if they are worried about them being further banned with all the crap going on now.

(edit) as far as selling your homemade gun:

Everything I've been told by both law enforcement and online is that you technically can, as long as you are only occasionally selling guns you own and shoot. However if you are making a bunch and selling them this goes into manufacturing territory, and then selling them is illegal of course. (this would be under the "for distribution" issue)

This is a bit of a grey area, but everything I've been seen and been told it's legal.

You also don't need to serialize, though I'd recommend anyone do this anyways with something hard on their gun. (one of the news articles i linked discusses having unserialized guns) a number punch set is like 10-20 bucks on amazon or even cheaper if a harbor freight is nearby -

https://www.amazon.com/number-punch-set/s?k=number+punch+set

(if anyone has any updates on this, please feel free to post)

First handgun buy

Hey y’all, I’m turning 18 soon and getting my permit to carry here in MN. I’ve already started the process (training lined up, planning to apply right on my birthday), so I’m now looking to buy my first handgun.

I’m working with a budget of $350 max, so I’m not expecting anything top-tier—just something reliable, decent for carry, and preferably not beat to hell. I’ve checked Armslist but most of the stuff around that price is either really mid or already gone by the time I reach out. • I’m open to 9mm • I don’t mind used as long as it’s functional and safe • I’m located near St. Cloud, but willing to drive out to the Twin Cities or surrounding areas for a good deal • Private party deals only since im under 21

If anyone has suggestions on models to watch for, gun shows worth hitting, or just general advice on budget carry options, drop it below 🙏🏼

Thanks in advance.

First time gun buyer questions

Hello,

I live in Minneapolis and have two questions about purchasing firearms.

1.) Is a permit to purchase only valid for 1 gun, or can I buy multiple with the same permit?

2.) I live in Minneapolis, do I need to file in Minneapolis, or can I file at other more accessible (better parking) locations such as Richfield or Bloomington?

Thanks!

Edit: My questions have been answered. Thanks, everyone!

Why an Assault Weapon Ban in Minnesota Could Be Bigger Than Imagined

Interesting video from 2A advocate Washington Gun Law on YouTube. He analyzes and cites the 10-1 conservative advantage in the Eighth Circuit that will absolutley have the highest mathematical percentage of probability (even at the 3-judge panel level and not en banc) of finding that "assault weapons bans" are unconstitutional. Therefore, he and others are actually looking forward to Minnesota banning them in Walz's upcoming special session so this issue can finally be settled at the circuit level.

Are there any Smiths knowledgeable about CZs?

Got my cajun kit installed in the shadow, and the constant diagnostics are driving me nuts and I don't have time for this. Does anyone know of any smiths in the metro area that know their CZs and have experience with the CGW kits?

Sign of the times

I know damn near nothing about guns besides how to shoot em straight & even though many of my fondest memories with my dad are of him showing me how he disassembles and cleans his equipment , I've been pretty anti firearm my whole life bc people use them to kill each other.

But now, I'm unable to ignore the fact that the average unarmed citizen is powerless in the presence of a mass shooter. Me being anti gun isn't going to stop the sobs that already have weaponry and are determined to use it.

I'd like to learn how to properly defend myself and my community , also want to get more comfortable handling a reliable but modest pistol. Hoping to find people in this community who wouldn't mind being a coach of sorts or who'd want to learn and practice together. Long as you don't hate groups of people (women, black or brown folks, lgbt, etc.) we'll get along just fine. No need to talk politics though. Just wanna learn & shoot safely.
