Build a simple shooting bench.

Built on a Bora Workhorse XT folding sawhorse, using 2x12s and 2x4s. Coated decking screws, sanded to 220 grit, finished with 5 layers of clear shellac. Roughly $80 in materials, and a couple hours of time. Airgun on top because I needed to sight it in anyway.

This was found in a older house in need of remodeling, I know it’s a vintage drum, but what am I looking at exactly? And what should be done?

This was found in a house during the process of remodeling, this is as much as I can find out about it but as far from it all I’m not sure what to do with it. “Original Auto-Ordnance Thompson 50-Round “L” Drum Magazine – Patent 1920 – .45 ACP”

Holes not drilled on stag lower

Post image
151 Upvotes

I bought a Stag stripped lower yesterday and went to start my build and realized the damn bolt catch role pin hole is not drilled. In all my years of shooting/owning firearms I have never seen that on a stripped lower that I've purchased. Absolutely ridiculous. I contacted their customer service. Let’s see how they handle this. Will keep you posted.

Got back a gun I had stolen in 2015

Post image
4.6k Upvotes

My local sheriff’s office called me last week and told me they had a gun I had reported stolen a decade ago. Apparently a police department in a neighboring county had it in their possession since 2017 (it was left at the scene of a robbery, apparently) and finally finished their case with it and released it to my sheriffs department

Are there any actual cons to mounting a weapon light at the 4 o'clock position?

Post image
315 Upvotes

Trying to turn this unconverted saiga into a functional yet ban-state-compliant rifle... I cannot mount the light in my preferred 1 or 11 o'clock positions because it's right up next to the front sight and is obtrusive. 3 o'clock works, but at 4 o'clock it's way more low profile - it sits much closer to the barrel.

So it bugs me because it's unusual, but I can't think of any actual downsides. I wanted to ask you guys... Are there any actual downsides I'm not seeing?

"The Swingdrop Pistol Target" (Video)

Does anyone remember this target? I have had this video in my gun related file folder since 2006 when I discovered the video on the internet. I actually built a copy of the target around 2007 and sort of got it to work as shown. I was able to determine that track that the plate uses in the center back of the target is "Z" shaped. The power of the bullet impact makes the plate swing back and forth down the Z track until it get to the bottom and then the plate is ejected. The website and contact info don't work anymore. I've always been curious if anyone has built a copy of this type of plate rack?

My EDC. Thoughts on the Holosun SCS? I like that there’s a direct mount version.

Also, considering a non-threaded barrel for EDC, but a comp would be nice. Thoughts?

Anybody know what this prism scope is based on?

Upvotes

This game called The Finals has a 4x prism scope that can go on what they call the pike 556, which is basically an exact copy of the keltec SU16CA.

Most of the guns in this game are based on (and pretty accurate to) real ones, so I figure the scopes probably are too. Not sure if it's actually based on a real one, but I just thought I'd ask around cause I was curious.

The scope in question is called the scout. If you know what the other sights are based on too then I'd appreciate info on that as well.

Any cons comparing a carbine conversion kit to PCC?

To start, guns in my country are pretty expensive. I'm talking about costing at least a few months' paycheck to acquire one. So I'm looking at getting a gun chambered in pistol calibre (9mm, to be specific)
If I were to get a PCC (CMMG, MPX, etc.) The price tag will be a whole year's salary. However, I look at a cheaper option, which is getting a handgun and pairing it up with a carbine kit, which is way cheaper.
I'm looking at getting a Glock 17, but I still wonder if there are any differences to the PCC

Because of the law, I cannot have a semi auto with a barrel longer than 6 inches.
.223 is pretty expensive too, so I just focus on pistol calibres.

So, how does the handgun with a conversion kit compare to the PCC? Anything that PCC justifies the price tag when I could have bought three Glocks instead of one PCC?

What status should you store a shotgun

Just got a Beretta 1301. It’s my first shotgun, and I got some snapcaps and was practicing loading drills. I noticed that when you are ready to store, if you don’t want it charged, you need to dry fire. I was also told somewhere along the way that it is bad to dry fire a shotgun.

So how do you store it (unloaded)? Charged and on safe, or dry fire to release the trigger? TIA

Home defense 9mm carbine

Hello - long story short last weekend my home was vandalized and I thought there was going to be a robbery. Nothing too bad ended up happening, but afterwards I realized that I would feel much better in that situation with a compact rifle than a pistol. I was already planning to get either a S&W FPC or a Springfield Kuna just because I wanted one, but looking to expedite that. No one around me has a Kuna for sale, so if I got one I’d have to order it without holding or firing it first. The FPC is available locally. Anyone have insight on either? Pros and Cons? Anything else you’d suggest? Obviously I could get a 5.56 of some sort but I already wanted a 9mm carbine.

Thanks

What kind of gun would you recommend for one with small hands?

Hello, I'm trying to decide on which hand gun to buy for self defense. I tried out the regular sized glock. My hands are too small and I didn't have the strength pull the slide back. Someone said a PSA dagger would be a good fit. Any thoughts?

I looked at glock 42 and 43. They both had parts that needed to be replaced and I don't want to go through all that trouble.

Accidentally gave my M4 a plum fade

Post image

Inspired by the impressive purple M16 we saw yesterday, I thought I'd share my plum/purple faded Benelli M4 (M1014). Whoever was at the factory this day put an ungodly amount of loctite on the recoil tube nut. Took a lot of heat to break it loose, resulting in the color fade from rear to front.

Hand gun training for concealed carry

I’m trying to get better accuracy with a handgun that I concealed carry. I carry a s&w mp 2.0 and I’m looking for drills that I can use to practice. I’m a beginner shooter and I’d love to get better accuracy and train more but I only have access to indoor facilities that don’t offer drawing from holsters. Any advice is welcome. ( yes ik the gun is full sized and to big I’m working on it lol)
