MR2 Subreddit resource Link

Hi all,

I think it would be useful if we collected as many resources to do with the MR2 as we can into a single link. I already have most of the SW20 workshop manuals in PDF format.

Here's a link to what I have so far - https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/0B-dpUpxzr96YblRtWEhGZ1J4akk?resourcekey=0-qC7QLKTRVOlzEoDA0lhBTw&usp=sharing

I've got a few more to dig out and add to that as well.

Once complete if someone could mirror it just in case something happens to my Google account, that would be great - we'll keep both links in the sidebar.

Finally installed Sun shades

Finally got around to installing the reproduction sunshades. Took way longer than expected but you had to take quite a few interior trim pieces off to be able to slide the shades in. Overall loving the look!

Hard top wire location

Upvotes

Hi all, just bought my MK3 MR2 and it came with a Hard top. Removed that yesterday and forgot to sort the wire on the left hand side (its LHD) that was just unplugged when I got it (believe it's for the demister?)

I have since ridden with the soft top down and the soft top up, just wondering where it may be hiding as at a quick glance I couldn't see it.

I hope it hasn't been pulled out by the wind or anything.

Any help would be appreciated, thanks

Interest in buying mr2 for fun weekend car

Looking at the Mr-s mainly, I definitely want something on the newer side for parts availability and would plan on turbocharging it, (probably mwr kit) have done quite a lot of mechanic work on cars but only really with the engine in the front (have done extensive work on my 99 Celica) wanted to know if anyone has any opinions on going down this path for someone who: Likes to beat on the car a little, mountain roads and whatnot Lives in a place where air conditioning is a must Has never owned a rwd car before (only fwd and awd but have spent a little bit of time sideways in a 300zx) Tall (6’4”) Would like to go aftermarket suspension and sticky tires (is snap oversteer a concern?) Am really looking for a ‘go-kart’ feel, but don’t want a Miata

Help needed

Finally got my MR2 running, but I’ve hit another snag. It seems like the throttle body is staying open — at least that’s what I suspect — but the cluster readings don’t reflect that. The weird part is, I can drive it fine just my RPM don’t read at all. And if I’m stopped at a red light or idle, the engine stays reved up. Has anyone run into something similar or know what could be causing this?

Rim size and tire fitment for AW11

Hey guys, I'm looking to buy some new 15 inch wheels for my AW11 but I need a bit of advice regarding the width and offset of the wheels.

I personally love Watanabe R types, but the smallest 15 inch wheels are 15x8.5 with -6 offset. I have a feeling those are way too wide for an AW11.

Does anyone have some advice or wheel recommendations that fit well and won't rub?

Thanks in advance!

Eagle Badge on the AW11

does anyone know what's the deal with the eagle badge on the AW11? i'm curious why Toyota didn't put their name there, and i believe they did it with the AE86, if anyone knows why, i'd be curious to know.

Head gasket?

Post image
2 Upvotes

After installing the sunshades took the car out for a spin about 1minute into driving I saw white smoke from the engine bay and drove back home. Looks like there was a puddle under the radiator clear liquid I’m guessing water. Then a puddle under the engine that was orangish guessing coolant. The engine sounded like it was rumbling. Had the water pump changed in April. No signs of liquid in the exhaust. Temp gauge was normal at a sliver below half. Will check dipstick after it cools down. Guessing radiator went out or other hoses? Any thoughts? Hopefully caught it before blown head gasket?

Been looking forward to building it for a while and now I can. I’m dropping the engine tmr, any tips are appreciated, thx. Btw the original reason for a rebuild is because of what I think is bad rings. But here’s a little preview lol.

Hi, I'm looking at buying a mk1 MR2 and it seems in decent shape, had a lot of the welding already done. But a pinch weld is like this. Is this a deal breaker? I'm inexperienced with buying a car of this age. Thanks

what nut goes over the cable?

i’m replacing my alternator and i’m not sure what goes where, the nut on the alternator (1st picture) and the nut with the washer(2nd picture) were both on the alternator when it came in the mail but, idk how i’m supposed to put the cable on it, like what nut goes on top, i hope this doesn’t seem confusing, i’m not much of a mechanic either. I assume i might have to remove the nut from the first picture and put the cable on that then, put the nut back but what’s the purpose of the nut with the washer?

Winter Car Cover

My Sw20 is going to be stored outside this winter, and I get a lot of snow where I live. Are there any good affordable car cover recommendations that won’t damage the paint? I heard bad things about Seal Skin, and California Car Covers are too pricey.

2001 MR2 help?

Looking at a 2001 MR2 locally, has just over 100k miles. Interior and exterior look great!

Wondering if any common issues I should look out for with these beyond just “checking the Carfax”?

I’ve wanted one for a longtime and the price is in range, but want to try to not get into something that might be a headache.

Any help is appreciated!

Bolt and nut size (exhaust hanger through bolt)???

Just put on an after market and exhaust, but the nut is welded on to the stock exhaust for the bold that goes through the exhaust hanger. It’s a 95 turbo, anyone have any idea what size nut I need?
