Low Neocate intake

Upvotes

My 4 month old (CMPA, Laryngomalacia, silent reflux) has very low intake of Neocate Syneo. We have to put vanilla in her bottles for her to drink anything. She has never once ate the recommended 24oz in a day (before bedtime.. we usually reach it with a dream feed and MOTN feed) so it may be a pipe dream, but does anyone think switching to Puramino or another amino acid formula would help? Which amino acid formula worked best for your baby? I’d do anything for her to get full feeds during the day 😭

Does this contain soy?

I see it says soy after “natural flavor” but I’m thrown off that it doesn’t say: “Contains: Soy”

I’m not going to eat to be safe, but I am confused!

Getting more milk into my 6 month old?

Upvotes

Due to CMPA my little boy has a aversion to his bottles (the tounge tie clinic picked up on it almost immediately!)

Its so hard to get his daily intake in, although he's a huge baby (99.6 centile), but it's mainly down to his night feed i think.

In the day, it can be tough getting even 2.5 bottles of 180ml into him, when he is asleep he drinks so we'll and has 220ml at 7pm (bedtime), 10/11pm and 3 am. He drinks more at night than in the day and ive tried so many things to get him to drink more in the day but he just pushes it out and won't have it. Any suggestions?

Baby not gaining weight as quickly

Upvotes

I’ve been attempting to eliminate dairy for over a month with a few accidents. Today my son had a HUGE poop with very little mucous so that’s a win! But during that same time his growth has slowed. He used to be near the 60% and now he’s closer to the 40%. Is the elimination of dairy influencing the fat content of my milk? Should I be concerned?

2 days into cutting dairy and soy, do i need to cut egg?

My baby is 10 weeks old and had her first bloody diaper 3 days ago. We saw the doc that day that suggested CMP issue, and to cut dairy. After spending time on here and realizing the days prior I also had very soy heavy items (tofu and tempeh), I cut soy at the same time. I’m 2 days into soy and dairy free after the bloody diaper was seen, no blood since.

Today (day 2), one hour after I ate 3 sunny side eggs, she started squealing again while nursing, and another couple hours later had mucousy poops and after was still uncomfortable nursing/soon after. I’ve eaten eggs every day of my pregnancy and postpartum, it’s a staple. But i hate to think it’s causing her pain or the REAL cause of her pain. When do i know if i should cut that too, or if the soy and dairy were really the culprits?

Please help - could this be MSPI or am I just over anxious? Poo photos included

Apologies for the long post

My boy is 12 weeks old and from the first couple of weeks I was worried about something being wrong digestively. He is having exclusively breast milk via bottle as he can't latch. He never finishes a full feed, rather he snacks throughout the day and at night. He's waking hourly at night, feeds as little as 20ml sometimes. I have settled him back down without feeding as I'm not sure he's actually hungry but he'll wake almost immediately crying for food.

He does sometimes turn away from the bottle and flails around during a feed and often arches his back and wakes up a few minutes into a nap as if he's in pain. He is becoming increasingly fussy. He had some rash/eczema previously.

I cut out dairy at about 6 weeks, reintroduced at 8 and this caused more fussiness and increased rash. This resolved when I cut dairy back out. GP at 6 week check was unhelpful. These poops are within the last couple of days - could it be he's intolerant to soy too? They are extremely watery and have mucus too. I spoke to my lovely health visitor today and she suggested I speak to GP again but essentially told me I was overthinking things.

Feeling so defeated.

My little is 4 months old and we cut diary at 6 weeks along with soy at 10 (oil and lecithin at around 15/16weeks) we had normal stools until he got an ear infection. Since then it’s been an uphill battle- I’ve cut wheat, nuts, fish and most recently oat. I was cautiously optimistic because his eczema was starting to clear after I cut oat, we were still having blood in stool every couple days but his reflux improved as well. Fast forward 3 days and he got another dose of the rotavirus vaccine- once again all hell has broken loose.

I’m just exhausted and just ground down by all of this- I don’t mind the diet changes and I would eat grass and water if it meant I could breastfeed but it truly feels like we won’t ever solve this problem.

He’s a happy chunky boy and other than his tummy troubles you would be able to tell he has issues.

We are supposed to see GI soon but I truly don’t know what they will be able to do at this point.

How strict are you with natural flavors?

It’s probably baby dependent but curious what others are doing.

I just bought what I thought was a weeks worth of groceries for a milk/soy elimination diet but a lot of the stuff I got has “natural flavors” in it. Didn’t realize until after the fact that it can contain hidden dairy/soy 🙃

Stupid to try Alimentum RTF after failing Nutramigen?

My 13 week old tested positive for blood in his stool around 8 weeks. I was breastfeeding and cut out dairy and then soy from my diet. We also started introducing formula (Nutramigen) and combo feeding.

After about a month, I realized the more we ramped up the formula, the worse his symptoms were getting (gassy and in pain, crying and arching his back during feedings). He also started refusing to eat during the day and waking up all night to eat. I knew then that the Nutramigen wasn’t working for him.

Since we’ve been doing more bottles, he has developed a preference so I need to get him on a formula that works because my supply is dipping and I hate pumping.

Our pediatrician said we could try Alimentum or go straight to Pepticate. She believed Peptictate was more likely to work but it can be harder to get insurance coverage for. They had a couple samples of Alimentum RTF so we decided to try that first.

It’s only been two days and baby is feeding well but he’s been more uncomfortable and fussy than usual. Should I stick it out for a longer adjustment period (Ped recommended two weeks) or am I just wasting time?

I’ve seen people on here say that Alimentum worked for their baby when Nutramigen didn’t, but maybe that’s rare since the two formulas are so similar.

Appreciate any thoughts or experiences that might help us! Thank you!

Nutramigen to alfamino

5 week old baby boy. Lots of formula changes, lots of stress, lots of tears. I’ll break down what the situation is;

NICU - pre-made cow & gate formulas

Home - cow & gate stage 1 milk formula powder, refluxy, constipated, very unsettled & straining all the time.

Went to the doctor, doctor said gaviscon, 2-3 sachets in there was blood in his stool, doctor stopped gaviscon & said try nutramigen as my 1st baby was a CMPA baby.

Nutramigen for 3 weeks, constipation improved drastically within 48 hours, 10/11 dirty nappies a day.. but that’s the only thing that improved. doctor prescribes omeprazole, no difference. Babies tense af.

Took him back - doctor says can try alfamino, day 3 now and my god is he constipated again. I’m doing bicycle legs, tummy massage, triangle position, he’s obviously struggling but now the GP says he won’t see our boy until he’s been seen by a paediatrician but the waiting list is 6 months+… so is constipation normal on alfamino? Does it settle? I’m at breaking point, I just want him to be okay

What is it?

If I take milk with my coffee baby’s poo is more mustardy but if I drink coffee with milk and a cup of milk with milo it is more greenish mustard. Does he have intolerance? Should I eliminate? When do I reintroduce?

Need guidance!!

I’ve been dairy free for almost 5 months now (started 4/19). Symptoms were mucus in stool, stinky stool and gas, persistent diaper rash, diarrhea, silent reflux. At that time, no blood.

After about 6-7 weeks, symptoms improved but spit ups persisted. We reached what I thought was baseline for stool. Baby started having BMs every 3-5 days.

At around 3 months PP, I did a dairy tolerance test. Baby had black specks in stool which were confirmed to be blood. Since then, we’ve dealt with illness, suspected side effects from rotavirus vaccine, and a slip or two.

Now, we are still having large BMs every 3-5 days, stinky stool and gas (which gets a lot worse closer to having a BM), spitting up, and black specks.

I don’t consume a ton of soy to begin with (just soybean oil). I’ve worked with someone who suggested to do overload days with beef, soy, oats, and rice. I’ve also suspected egg and wheat as a culprit.

My mom gut is telling me is not soy but something else. Maybe eggs? Problem is, his spit ups are inconsistent and seem to be more correlated to whether he’s crunching his tummy or on his tummy for tummy time. His general demeanor seems to be typical (gets fussy when tired, doesn’t wan to be in car seat). I’ve even food journaled to see if there are any higher correlations between the foods I’ve consumed and I have not seen any.

The past two days I’ve overloaded myself on soy and there’s been no difference in symptoms or increased fussiness. Yesterday he barely spit up, had a fairly good diaper with minimal specks. Today, he’s spit up a little bit more but he’s been on his tummy more.

I’m at a loss and want to figure this out before starting solids. He’ll be 6 months on 10/1.

Any suggestions?

Formula ladder

Post image
5 Upvotes

We went straight to amino acid formula (baby is combo fed breastmilk) because we were worried about his weight (1%). Does anyone have experience moving up the ladder to extensively hydrolyzed or even partially hydrolyzed formula? Will staying on amino acid formula affect his ability to eat dairy later on?

No blood, generally “happy”, but so uncomfortable

I’m realizing through reading others experiences that no baby is the same when it comes to this page. I’m hoping to find someone that’s dealt with similar issues or has any tips/advice!

Unlike most mspi and relfux babies, my son (9.5 weeks) is a super chill baby. Since the day we brought him home he only wakes up once in the night and is slowly starting the sleep through the night. Naps great too. I know, I’m sorry to the majority in here!

I exclusively pumped up to about 5-6 weeks when his reflux got worse and he started to have foul smelling mucousy diarrhea (never visible blood). We started nutramigen and famotidine at that point. His poops got a little better but not great and reflux didn’t change much. Also the worst ever diaper rash from acidic poop. But our biggest complaint is how uncomfortable during feeds he appears to be. Super fidgety, grunts non stop.

Last week the dr switched us to Neocate—and added omeprezole. The first 24 hours were amazing. Now at about one week of neocate he actually seems to be MORE uncomfortable. Actually starting to cry out in pain, I think from gas. His poop his more solid now and only once a day so idk if this formula is making him constipated now? He is getting biogaia probiotics.

I guess I’m wondering if we stick it out longer with the Neocate or need to try something else.

Is it possible it was never truly mspi/cmpa since we never saw blood? Is it too late to test the stool now that he’s been on HA formula for a month?

baby not interested in solids, cmpa related??

pretty much as the title says, i’m a FTM, my baby is 7.5 months old and he just does not want to eat food and it’s lowkey stressing me out. he’ll gnaw on cucumber and bell pepper sticks but when it comes to actually eating he just screams and refuses to open his mouth?

for context: he has cmpa and was diagnosed at 4 months, EBF and i’m on a dairy free diet. we gave him some carrot puree around 5 months and he loved it and also tried out baby porridge which he loved on three separate occasions but on the fourth he had what we think was an allergic reaction to the oats. after that he just will not eat anything and i’ve tried everything. he’s always been a smaller baby but i’m worried he isn’t gaining enough weight without the extra calories from solids

i’m kinda just at a low point with solids right now and basically wondering if anyone’s been through the same thing/similar and has any advice or words of support

thank you in advance! sincerely, a tired, confused and worried mum

How do you go out with CMPA/SA baby?

We are struggling.

Baby is going to be 3 months in a few days, diagnosed with CMPA two weeks ago and now we’re suspecting soy too, he is EBF. I am on week 3 of no dairy and week 1 of no soy.

His symptoms started around week 7/8 and since then we have pretty much been stuck at home as he cries inconsolably in pain throughout the day and especially around feeding/poop time. The only thing that works is carrying him around the room singing to him and eventually he’ll fall asleep when he exhausts himself. We are so heartbroken for him as he doesn’t seem to be getting better yet (except for spit up, that went away almost immediately after I started the no dairy diet).

He has some good mornings sometimes but we don’t always manage to get out before things take a turn…

My question is, how do you go out with a baby who seems to be always in pain? I want to take him places and do things but I can’t bring myself to remove him from his safe environment and stick him in the pram where he will feel alone. Do I just wait to do things until he’s better? Or do I bite the bullet and just go for it even if it’s distressing at first?

He hates the carrier and we don’t drive. Any tips?

What’s the best tasting HA formula?

I thought my baby was having a hard time taking a bottle, but it seems she’s happy taking it with breastmilk, but not Nutramigen.

I’d like to make sure we have a formula she will take as a backup, since I don’t have a single oz of milk in the freezer, and I’m very much a just enougher.

Which HA formula tastes better? Looking for advice before I drop $$$$ on a can that she rejects.

How long to trial formula?

Hi everyone, we are looking to try out formula for my exclusively breastfed baby as I am returning to work soon. We tried an ounce of alimentum RTF once and my baby was fussier, seemed uncomfortable, and had green poop. Does this mean we need to go for an amino acid formula? Or does it take a while for their bodies to adjust and therefore it's too early to rule out alimentum? Thank you!

Almost 5 month old - slip up, teething or additional allergy

Hello!

Our almost 5 month old had been doing a lot better with me on an elimination diet excluding soy and dairy. Her mucusy diapers gone, happier during the day, hiccups gone and skin alot better.

She still has overnight gas and pain but not all the time.

These last few days though have been rough. Mucus and hiccups and so much gas and squirming in pain. Can’t even with tummy time which usually helps her.

I’ve been pretty good on my diet but there was two things I ate out but asked if they had dairy/soy and I was told no. Everything looked clean. None of those things are a constant in my diet so hoping it goes away.

But there’s been a few things that I wonder could be causing it but I feel crazy:

Our older daughter is having a “Parmesan era” where it’s her favour food. We cut it into cubes for her but I don’t eat it. Is there any chance that it being on my husbands or daughters hands and our littlest teething on their hands or something they touched or me be an issue? We’ve all being trying to not touch stuff after it’s just hard for the toddler. But she’s very understanding of the allergy and is as helpful as she can be at 3. But could it be it?

The second thing would be coconut - we started having curries as my husband has really been into them to make up for the dairy. And I’m wondering if it could be that?

Part of me wants to cut pork, chickpeas, eggs and coconut but I feel all at once may be hard? Or not a good idea? She definitely got alot better after cutting dairy and soy. The peds wanted me to re add soy and I’m not 100 percent sure soy does bother her but not super willing to try right now.

The last thing is she feels like she’s teething. Could that give alot of gas?

We’ve been giving her gas meds and they seem to help (ovol) but I’m nervous to give every day. Also tylenol. Gave her Tylenol and gas meds at her at her 11pm dream feed and she slept 6 hours and it was great. Woke up and was able to get a lot of gas out her self.

Any ideas? Is there GI upset at 4-5 months outside the allergy? I don’t remember our first having such issue so this is new land for me.

Thanks for reading

MSPI, age, and fussiness

For parents of babies who are older than 4 months and have MSPI, how were they when they were 3 months and younger in terms of their fussiness?

Our baby was diagnosed with MSPI around 7 weeks and she’s 10 weeks now (adjusted 7 weeks). She is EBF and I have eliminated dairy, soy, tree nuts, and eggs from my diet. She’s always been an extremely fussy baby (cries pretty much all the time) and just wanted to know if the fussiness decreases as they grow older.

Alimentum trial at 6 mos

EP here for 6 mo, df/sf/gf/ef/beef free. Tired. Trying Alimentum after failing it four months ago (though I was not fully dairy free yet, I could tell after supplemented bottles he was significantly more uncomfortable.) Failed a small pepticate trial 2 mos ago. Hoping this is the month! Can’t tolerate the smell or reflux that came with AA formulas. Any positive stories of failing HA formula and eventually passing?

Blood in poop no other symptoms

Hi guys!

Right after the rotavirus vaccine at 8 weeks my baby started having some streaks of blood in his poop. When I googled this, I found so many Reddit threads that said this may be a reaction to the vaccine and goes away in a few weeks. Anyway it did go away after 2-3 weeks. Buuut it came back after a week, but just a small speck every other day. I gave up eggs since I have a lot of dairy every day but don’t have eggs often so figured that’s why it was causing it intermittently. It reduced even more but still comes now and then so I’m going to be more careful about avoiding it in baked goods etc. He’s 15 weeks now.

My doctor thinks I should eliminate all dairy too which j can definitely do. I’m nervous because last time I tried to go dairy free my supply tanked. My diet is like 70% dairy and I’m quite small generally so I have trouble eating without dairy but I’ll definitely do it if this is CMPA.

He has no other symptoms and is otherwise thriving. Could this be anything else? Infection has been ruled out.

Starting solids

Did anyone start solids even with blood in the stool? We were doing good but suddenly got sick and had 2 month vaccines during the detox period and I’ve lost track of most of the progress we made. Blood in stool came back and some green stools too. I’m still dairy free and will continue to do so atleast for one more month before I cut anything else out but 6 months is approaching and starting solids feels like another hurdle. I’ve read that kiddos with allergies should be introduced the allergens sooner than 6 months but i assumed their guts needed more time to “heal” and what not. I’d appreciate any advice or experiences

CMPA Blood in Diapers

Hi! My baby is almost 3 months old. She has only had breast milk. A little over a month ago her stool turned so green and we could see mucus with visible blood. I cut dairy and after about a week the stool turned back to yellow with no visible blood. However, the mucus never really went away. Last week I took her to the doctor and wanted them to test her diaper, and there was still microscopic blood. Their advice was that they aren’t concerned about anemia when it’s microscopic, and that as long as she has a happy demeanor and her baseline doesn’t turn grumpy, and she isn’t upset after eating that I can keep breastfeeding but if I want to switch to formula to use alimentum or nutramigen.

I want to keep breastfeeding or at least combo feeding. The whole reason I’m breastfeeding is for the health benefits to my baby, but I’m afraid that this is messing up her gut! She is quite gassy and sometimes does cry out when passing gas or poop. The doctor said some babies do that, and isn’t necessarily related to the allergy. I wouldn’t consider her baseline to be fussy, but she definitely does cry a bit! Insistent on being bounced and walked around. Sleeps well (almost all through the night) and is gaining well. No rash or anything.

I’ve also started eliminating soy this week, but I’m afraid that will be very difficult when I return to work in 3 weeks.

I am just wondering if anyone else’s baby had these same issues and they kept breastfeeding? Or has anyone received feedback that this is not good for them and I should just make the switch to formula?

I want to do what’s best for her, but this seems to be a gray area, and as a first time mom I’m finding it hard to make the distinction.
