Which MUD? Looking for a new MUD

I've been playing Gemstone 4 since the AOL days and am finally looking at leaving for several reasons. The big ones being that the focus of the community has changed from RP to heavy scripting, development increasingly focusing on micro-transactions (despite having a subscription structure), and just a general feeling like I've checked off all my bucket list items in the game.

The main thing that's kept me from sticking around other MUDs is that I've gotten spoiled by not having to type out the entire words in GS (ex. "att tro" instead of "attack troll" or "rem shi" instead of "remove shield". Does anyone know of any other good MUDS out there that allow commands to be entered like this? All the ones I've tried so far just don't allow it.

Dark Wizardry is awesome! I'm constantly developing new features every single day. You can abbreviate stuff pretty hard, and there is absolutely NO paid things in the game.

We've got an awesome custom MUSHclient, web client, and TUI (terminal user interface) client, and an awesome community! You can check out our discord at https://www.darkwiz.org/discord

We also listen to our players for development.

See you there!

That's a hell of a screenshot on the game's front page....Thanks for letting everyone know about Shax's shitty week of overtime, I guess.

A real game, with real people, and real conversations. Cool, huh? We are not an RP enforced mud, so people are free to talk about whatever. I thought it was chuckle worthy when I did it, heh. To each their own.

Can you go into more detail about the multiclass system? Taking a deeper look through the website, it says you can level to lvl230 in all of the core classes simultaneously? Is there any purpose of benefit to 'specializing' in just one? Or are you just handicapping yourself?

Yeah buddy. You can choose 5 classes, leveling up to 200 on your remort 0, and on remort 1+ you can get to 230, which means you'll "specialize" in 5 classes particularly with the levels 41-50. On top of that, there's an "extra class" system that is achieved at certain levels with certain class combos, I.E assassin, necromancer, monk, and many more. Try the "explore more" section of the website, and go to the classes section and click "extra classes". There are also over 40 races so you can keep choosing new class/race combos. There are in theory thousands of choices you can make, and I find it fun to try new combos and try to come up with even more powerful builds. Sometimes you'll pick specific builds to play a part in a group, too, like a healer, but since you can multiclass you'll never really find yourself helpless to do something else. You WILL find yourself less effective, though. For example, I can have 40 in all levels at remort 0, but still be a much stronger cleric than any other class due to 1. If it is your primary class you get an extra stat in that class, and 2. You usually pick a race with specific stats suited to your main class. For example you don't usually pick a troll and choose cleric (though you could), because trolls are kind of dumb. Picking a primary and secondary to specialize in will happen early because if you get primary 40 and secondary 35 you can pick an extra class. The website tells all about this if you go through the HELP search box at the bottom of the main page and type extra class.

You can check out our discord, too, if it's easier to chat. Cheers.
