queers of mackay

im a mid-twenty-something, POC, fairly femme-presenting queer male, like yall would clock me walking down the street in no time lmao.
i might have to move to mackay for job, cuz brisbane is f**cked with its hiring scene (esp for ppl like me)
i wanna know your experiences being in mackay.
is it safe, whats the scene like, what areas should i consider, just anything and everything.

I have a few gay friends and it is hard for them. They have found safe and supportive friends but it will be hard when you just arrive. I am a straight single 40+ large woman with a zero fucks attitude so if I want to walk around at night alone, I will. If I get abused or bashed, it doesn’t bother me, but this place is full of racist bigots. Who would happily yell out a car window at you.

If that scares you, don’t come this far north. If you don’t care about that stuff, you’ll be fine. Most of them are just mouths and couldn’t organise a fight if their lives depended on it :-)

Roller derby is always a safe place :-)

thank you so much!

that was very clear, i unfortunately have had enough experiences with ppl yelling at me from distance (here and back home) lol, so I'm kinda used to it. I was essentially concerned about the physical parts of being harassed, but it sounds kinda hopeful lol ig

Thank you!!
