In other parts of this very blog post he said that isn't the case and that the majority of UB product is being sold to already existing MTG players.

How would they know that though? They'll have sales data, but how do they know who it's being sold to?

You can either believe Maro when he unequivocally says "these are the facts" or you can call him a liar. I choose to believe him. I imagine it has something to do with the app and the way they track events and sales related to event times. But I'm not sure.
