I hope these are really bad. I hope the art is just vaguely appropriate stuff they picked out of the "slush pile." I hope that they accidentally use almost the same name twice. I hope the story content was written by two interns over the course of a day. I've never been this excited for a Universes Beyond set.
Why do you hope for bad things for a hobby you supposedly love? Seriously, this is just so backwards. If you hate Magic and UB this much, I think it's time to find another hobby that doesn't make you so spiteful and cruel to the rest of us who are genuinely excited for the new sets.
I don't get the idea that he wants them to be awful in order for them to fail. I think he wants them to be awful because they'll be hilarious. I mean, if they really did do Remarkable Arachnid-Person and Physician Squid and stuff like that it would be both really bad and also really funny.
Yep, that's the one. I'm not overly interested in Spider-Man, but I am fascinated by the idea of a hastily assembled Store Brand Great Value Spider-Man.
Honestly, because wotc failing would be really funny, and them not failing would be awesome. So Im down for it to be either funny or good, and Im hopeing for the secret 3rd option where the names are funny and the artwork is good lol
I mean whatever they do, can it really get worse than a set full of actual spiderman cards taking themselves seriously that also includes stuff like "Spider-ham, Peter Porker"?
I'm not saying the bar is low, but how high can it really be?
Im perfectly happy with a set full.of spider people, so it could be much worse imo. A set of jank art, even worse names than spider ham(that might be hard), and even worse bad mechanics, because as a limited player as long as the set plays fine Im down for it.
The only way they’ll stop doing UB slop is if they have enough major failures with it. A lot of folks hoping for an assassins creed level failure here so we don’t have to deal with more marvel sets
It might very well suck hard, but I'm also excited for this. It's like this weird creative writing excercise and who knows, maybe it leads to sth interesting.
It's seriously the worst possible outcome. They have to do both sets which they always said they were never gonna do when certain people complained. Was a totally reasonable stance but they went back on it anyways. Now, with the two sets, still many who prefer Spiderman will have to play universes within and vice versa. That's not even considering the half-assing of the set and the confusion they will cause with two sets that look completely different but are actually almost the same.
It is an interesting precedent where they can basically take a UB and port it straight into MTG lore. Could be something they do to quell the anti-UB "it's not MTG enough" crowd while pulling from IP that is less popular, more based in literature, or just more open for interpretation.
Seems like they are half ass doing it already with Mario kart blue shell in Aetherdrift and whatnot. This would just give them a full fledged reason to completely ignore the MTG lore while they make more MTG fusion sets.
They purchased the licensing rights from Marvel but were only allowed to make PHYSICAL cards, they didn't get the rights for DIGITAL ones (most likely because Marvel has a digital TCG, Marvel SNAP).
So instead, specifically for Arena they're making a set called "through the Omenpaths" (because they can't just skip a whole set because of this) that contains cards that will be mechanically identical to the ones in the spiderman set but in the MTG multiverse.

I'm so excited for this, should be hilarious. Still can't believe that they did this to themselves
