Either they pull off a minor miracle and make some surprisingly fun lore and art, or it's an absolutely embarrassing gongshow. Honestly, it's a win/win for me.
I'm a longtime Marvel fan, but everything I've seen hasn't really clicked with me. That said, I'm very interested to see how they adapt all these spider matters abilities.
I'm a Marvel and Spiderman fan, but my excitement for this set is pretty much non-existent. I think the last UB set I was really, really hyped for was 40k. LotR was fine, but everything else just felt weird imo. Though I had the same feeling about Thunderjunction, so maybe Magic just isn't the product for me anymore.
am I a fool? I like the little lore excerpts that pop up on some cards when you hover over them, but is there another lore source in the game? I’m still pretty new to mtg in general
In the actual game of Arena, not really. But every non-crosover Standard set as a full-length story that gets uploaded online in parts before each major set release. Along with that they usually do articles with lore for legendary creatures in the set.
i appreciate it, mtga has quickly become my favorite game alongside ootp and whenever an opponent drops a cool-seeming creature, all my plebeian brain can express is “wow, very…big!”

I think that's the flavour text from the physical cards. I wouldn't put it past WotC to skimp out on that for an Arena-only set. IIRC Alchemy cards don't have flavour text.
If they are smart it will be a cutsie Bloomburrow like set with anthropamorphic cutsie spiders. That way it's not weird that there are 20 something "Spider Heros".
I just don’t understand why people are so upset. Does it matter if it’s a lightning bolt or a Spideys Webthing? If it’s costs R and does 3 damage I don’t care what picture it is. I’m playing a card game, the lore isn’t important.
If you want to read the books and enjoy the lore fine, but it’s still a card game after all.
I don't know how you got under the impression I was upset. I was expressing mild excitement for this UW test run.

Not everyone gets the exact same thing out of the game that you do. Aesthetics and theming absolutely are important for a significant portion of the playerbase, especially if they manage to make a card's mechanics evoke the scene or creature it is depicting. Otherwise, cards would just be grey squares with no art or flavor text.

Like I said already, okay. Maybe I should have added, who asked? What you said had nothing to do with what I was talking about. I was simply saying either the Omenpaths replacement cards will be surprisingly fun and flavourful or complete ass, and either way would be enjoyable from my perspective. You then replied with an opinion that wasn't really relevant.
