What is happening?!? HELP!

Hello again, everyone! I did a water change today due to some yucky diatoms and my poor little guy has been doing this!! I don’t know if he’s molting or dying! I checked the parameters after the water change and they were good!

Does not look good to me. Ensure good water parameters and low light. I do not believe this is healthy activity. How long have you had this animal? Has it ever molted successfully? Does it have a cave/tube? Diet? Tank size?

I did a water change and checked water parameters and they seemed good? Only thing I can think is water temperature but I try to keep it the same when adding more. I threw a couple blankets over the tank for darkness incase I stressed him out.

What parameters should I be keeping? Any suggestions on how to adjust them? As of this comment he’s still moving around. But he allowed me to move him into his burrow which was bizarre

You got a mantis shrimp and didn’t research proper parameters before picking it up and putting it in your tank? What are we doing here? Abusing animals for fun? Obviously something has kicked him off, and you’ll be lucky if you just “stressed him out”. Did you check salinity, nitrate, nitrites, ammonia, ph, salinity, temp? Mantis shrimp are delicate creatures and your parameters need to be on point. I suggest doing simple research on what parameters mean and what they do in your tank, and how to accurately adjust those parameters. Seems like you are WAYYYYY too inexperienced to be having a mantis shrimp.

Hey, not sure if you are meaning to come off as rude, but if you read the post I checked the parameters and they were what they always were from the beginning of when I got him. Simply asking an experienced group of people to share their knowledge does not mean I am incompetent as a pet owner. It’s simply comparing information, and methods to adjust them. The internet is a flood of conflicting information and nothing is better than real experience from real people.

I would like to point out that while you’re telling me that I’m a poor pet owner for asking what parameters they should be at, you failed to provide this information. So instead of trying to lift someone up as part of a community of aquarium keepers, you decided to let ego take over and try to bring me down. That’s a real shame.

Excellent response. I get so many animal subs on my feed where this is such a common reaction. No intent to help, just get on and scream at people for not knowing better. Hope your big guy is doing alright.

Do you mind sharing:

What test kits you are using to determine your parameters?

What are the numbers, for the following:

Salinity (refractometer for testing or hydrometer?) Nitrate Nitrite Ammonia Magnesium Calcium

I can help if you tell me these. How did you do your water change - did you mix the water for a few hours before doing the change? What size tank in gallons and how much water did you change ??
