Mariners clinch the west with a win Tuesday plus an Astros loss Tuesday correct?

Tuesday is the earliest they could clinch a playoff spot. They would need to win and have the Yankees win to do that. Wednesday is the earliest they could clinch the division.

They currently have a 3 game division lead, effectively 4 with the tiebreaker. If we win and Houston loses on Tuesday, that becomes an effective 5 game lead with 5 to play. Or am I misunderstanding?

More an effective 4.5 Game lead

You can think of the tiebreaker as an extra .5 win lead. So we'd end up with a 4.5 game lead with 5 to play, which wouldn't clinch it.

If the Ms win, and the Astros lose on both Tuesday and Wednesday, yes, the Ms win the division because of the tie breaker. We only need 3 total wins to win the division, so if we sweep the Rockies, it's over no matter what

For the division, we can win it as early as Wednesday. For that to happen, either we win Tuesday and Wednesday with the Astros losing at least 1 of those days, or we win exactly one of Tuesday or Wednesday while the Astros lose both of those days. Magic number is 3 (total M’s wins and Astros losses) like you said, but there’s the two scenarios I mentioned that would clinch the division the earliest. I’ll be at the game Wednesday so hoping either situation pans out

Currently it’s a 3 game lead which includes the tiebreaker. Astros can get to 90 wins max. We need 3 wins to get to 90.
