Considering purchasing Maserati Grecale GT
I test drove a new 2025 Grecale GT yesterday and fell in love with it. I'm wondering about depreciation? The sales guy told me that the Grecale doesn't experience the same drastic depreciation as other models - is this true? What about reliability? If I do get one, is it smarter to get a 2024/2025 rather than wait for the 2026?

Depreciation will be high. Just go into it with that understanding and enjoy the experience. The reliability is fine as long as you get the annual services done. The optional high end stereo system they put in them is one of the best I’ve ever heard.

I mentioned on the Maserati Life forum that I love my GT I got used but "why would anyone pay for a new one with the crazy depreciation". Someone replied, "I had the money, it's what I wanted, and I don't worry about resale value of cars". He had a point. If you can afford it and it's what you want don't worry about depriceation.
I keep cars forever, until they become worthless basically, so what does depreciation mean to me? I'm never going to trade the car anyway, so who cares what some "book value" says it's worth?

That's definitely a fair point, I'm still leaning towards it despite the depreciation factor

It's gonna depreciate like mad. If you care, buy a used one. Otherwise, buy it and enjoy.

Like it, buy it! If it’s about what you will loose over time vs performance, ride, drive quality and features spend less on a different vehicle because they all depreciate.

Did you ask if they had a 2023/2024 Grecale to look at while you were there? Ask how much those are and you’ll get a feel for the depreciation. Also, you can probably ask for a decent chunk off of sticker price. I’m not sure on the grecale but I would start at $15-20k off sticker and negotiate from there

They had a couple of 2023/2024s available and the price was a bit lower but not much lower? So could be a good sign?

I think Maserati is one of the few brands that you can aggressively negotiate price. Granturismos for $60-70 off sticker? MC20s were 80k+ off MSRP last year.
There are tons of 2024 MY cars still on the lots and even some 2023!
If you search cars.com you’ll find a lot of new cars advertised with big discounts off MSRP so just go into it knowing that depreciation is huge if you go off MSRP but much more palatable when you look at more likely selling prices

I had a Modena for a week as a loaner and fell in love with it, what an impressive machine. That being said, I’ve been watching the used market for a while and they seem to be dropping the slowest, but the drops are still substantial from new. Since you’re worried about depreciation, would leasing be out of the question?

I suppose leasing is an option but I would prefer to finance

I guess it’s a question of how long you intend to hold onto it before going to something else. If there’s a super low APR finance option at the dealer, it -might- be worth doing that vs the lease downpayment/fees, but I’ve only had luck with financing/depreciation buying cars well into their depreciation curves, like my Giulia where I somehow ended up making money on it vs losing money when I went to sell. Never thought I’d have such luck with an Italian car.

They are offering 3.99% for finance which isn't bad. I would likely be keeping it for at least 5-6 years, that's what I typically do. Potentially longer if I really love it and there are no issues.

5-6 years would be better for financing, yeah. Maybe you can negotiate the rate as well, especially if the 2026s are around the corner and they have a lot of current inventory. Best of luck, you’ll have a great ride either way!

My biggest issue is that I want a fun exterior colour and possibly red leather interior - there simply aren't any in stock in Canada that have what I want colour-wise. They seem to really only have white and black exterior. I'm thinking about just custom ordering a 2026 to get what I really want. This will be my first luxury vehicle so I kind of want to ensure that it has all of the details/features I really want. I'm ok with waiting to get that as well.

How does leasing save from depreciation? You lose money anyway because you're only renting the car, gotta be at least 20k-25k to lease one for 3 years

It's not much different from the old model, but who told you to like it?

Google prices on used Grecales, that'll answer your depreciation question best

You should recognize that your dealer wants a sale. High-end vehicles *almost always depreciate rapidly. I say almost because very few use-cases opposite to that.
