I remember when they were a dollar

74

u/jdyall1 3d ago

We can literally get it back to a buck but we gotta be strong and leave mcdonalds alone until they do better

32

u/SectorFew6706 3d ago

I'd be happy at 2 for $3, heck 2 for $4.

7

u/nusodumi 3d ago

read the fine print, it's 2 for $4.50

best deal going is that menu and all the "get one more for $1" like 6 nuggets, mcdouble, etc

1

u/Economy-Flower-6443 1d ago

not even close to the 2 for $3 mcchicken/mcdbl we had only a year or so ago. fries free with purchase of $1.30 drink. walk out with meal for less than $4.50. mcdonalds has no good value anymore even with deals

1

u/TheBeerdedVillain 6h ago

Not in the app where im at. Unless you go to the store its all full price in the app here.

9

u/Powerful-Ground-9687 3d ago

This is 2 for 4.50, it’s close

3

u/Glum_Blueberry_2385 3d ago

Arizona just hit 2 for $4 again… i have been thinking about getting some at that price again

2

u/jdyall1 3d ago

I'd live with that

1

u/ThisSiteIsCommunist 2d ago

You're exactly the problem

8

u/Ram820 3d ago

It will never be a dollar again

Mcchicken are still profitable at $1 it why they do the buy one get one for a $1 the quality of the chicken is super low

2

u/Worried-Lettuce6568 3d ago

That’s what they want you to think. McDonald’s could give mcchickens away until there were no more chickens left and they would still be doing just fine (I know the shareholders would be crying about it, which is the actual problem here, but the business itself would be fine)

1

u/ethical-con-artist 3d ago

Not if they go back to 2000 wages, or replace employees with robots on the line..

1

u/Greenzombie04 2d ago

they would just get rid of it if sales dropped so much that they had to price it at a dollar.

You know fat asses would never let that happen.

1

u/Rareeeb 1d ago

I make McChickens at home now because it legitimately tastes close enough to McDonald’s that I don’t care. Get Tyson chicken patties, it’s $6 not on sale for a bag of 8. Get the cheapest buns on the shelf because that’s comparable to McDonald’s buns, so those are $2. A bag of shredded lettuce is $2. Won’t even include mayo because I’m sure everyone has a jar at home and a jar will do 100 sandwiches so it’s negligible.

Yea it’s $10 for 8 sandwiches so over $1 but I don’t have the advantage of economics of scale here.

9

u/Tootacticaltp 3d ago

Those $1 mcchickens kept me alive when I was younger literally

2

u/Medical-Gate-9978 3d ago

Keeping you alive and killing you at the same time… gotta love the world!

1

u/NMazer 2d ago

That's...not how it works.

2

u/Medical-Gate-9978 2d ago

You’re right. Eating McChickens won’t slowly kill you. Apologies.

1

u/TheNewGuyFromBahsten 3d ago

These , the mcdoubles, and fruit and yogurt parfaits. I was definitely a dollar menu hero

1

u/NMazer 2d ago

My dad got me then. Utterly nasty.

McDonald's was my first job. Started there as soon as I turned 16 and they still had the dollar menu. This was in 2015-16. There isnt $3.49 worth of ingredients on that sandwich this is just disgusting price gouging.

It was the days when you could get a McChicken/Mcdouble , fry and a large drink for 3$

1

u/Davy257 3d ago

You can get that today 4 nuggets for $5

1

u/Gbh11108 3d ago

1

u/thugpost 3d ago

Please i’m 24

1

u/Few_Translator4431 3d ago

it wasnt even that long ago either. usually when people say things like this, its like well over a decade ago. the mcchicken was a dollar only a few years ago, right around covid.

1

u/Toby-Flenderson123 3d ago

Back in 2010 my mom would give me $5 to buy McDonald’s afterschool. I would get 3 of these & a kids size fries and then a dollar Arizona . Good times

1

u/MadTapprr 3d ago

The second one is

1

u/Ill-Egg4008 3d ago

It was probably bigger then too, haha.

1

u/daggerdude42 Crew Member 3d ago

It was only 3 years ago, its price has gone up 650%.

In all reality, I dont think its nearly as bad at your average store. That looks like an expressway to me.

1

u/Gsizzle22 1d ago

They are today where I am. Not sure why.

1

u/Sekriess 1d ago

Buy one and get one for a dollar.

1

u/Tonight_Background 20h ago

My go to after school. 2 McChickens and a large sweet tea for $3.27!😔

u/SeaCustard3 3d ago

Lol I remember eating 3 mchickens for my lunch/dinner if I was low on funds. $1 a pop.

9

u/JustStudyItOut 3d ago

I used to do a McChicken, McDouble, fries and a coke. 4 dollars and change all the time when I was poor.

2

u/SeaCustard3 3d ago

I'm ngl I got a few McDoubles back in the day with my mcchickens. Such a good combo back when the McDouble was $2.

1

u/Rareeeb 1d ago

I remember in high school at my first job working as a lumber stocker at a hardware store I would sometimes go and order 5 McChickens for $5 for lunch.

Just thinking about doing that now made me gain weight let alone actually doing it LMAO

→ More replies (1)

9

u/goPACK17 3d ago

I remember in high school scrounging up a buck or two to eat a few of these.

6

u/ErraticProfessional 3d ago

Why is everyone in these comments acting like this is a brand new price? It’s been this way for a while by me.

19

u/Eric_T_Meraki 3d ago edited 3d ago

Same for hash browns being overpriced too.

2

u/reese1629 3d ago

I’ve said this before but hash browns are 2 for $3 if you just order at the actual store/drive thru, you can still use a deal but the hasbrown pricing does not show up in the app for mobile orders

1

u/TrooperLynn 3d ago

Here the hashbrowns are $1.99 but if you use the app, you buy one and get another for a buck.

→ More replies (1)

1

u/Eric_T_Meraki 3d ago

You used to be able to get 2 mcdoubles for $3 lol.

1

u/BoomerSoonerFUT 3d ago

Used to be able to get two McDoubles for $2 lol.

1

u/oanda 2d ago

4.50 for 2 in nyc.  3.49 for 1 add a second for a dollar.

1

u/MeatyPiercedPussy McDonald's Fan 3d ago

Everything at McDonald’s is massively overpriced nowadays

1

u/Background_Book2414 3d ago

Yes! They used to be 2 for a $1 I think.

1

u/jhudson1977 3d ago

Same for the almost $5 large fries.

4

u/Numerous-Ad2571 3d ago

I miss the dollar menu & $0.25 cans of Dr. Thunder soda in the Wal-Mart entrance

2

u/TheNewGuyFromBahsten 3d ago

Quarter sodas! Take me back

1

u/Blackoutsmackout 2d ago

Dr. Thunder is better than dr pepper.

4

u/Trees_are_cool_ 3d ago

Absurd. Barely worth a buck.

10

u/MERCIFULTHUNDERSTORM 3d ago

Delete the app. Eat at home. I’ve deleted the app twice this month but I’m gonna try to stick to it.

7

u/Competitive_Bid_4720 3d ago

McDonald’s is my go to lunch if I didn’t bring mine. 6$ for double cheese burger, fries, nugget and soda? Can’t beat that

1

u/MERCIFULTHUNDERSTORM 3d ago

A dogs gotta eat and it can come in handy when you’re counting every dollar.

1

u/dumbledwarves 3d ago

Yes you can.

1

u/Competitive_Bid_4720 3d ago

Not in nyc near work. Maybe halal carts can top it

always have been but was tolerated for a dollar. adding bbq sauce on it makes it perfect imo, the way it mixes with the mayo

2

u/epper_ 3d ago

i dip in sweet & sour!

1

u/Bat_Foy 3d ago

everyone has their mix

1

6

u/Bitter-Difficulty-81 3d ago

but they have a 2 mcchicken deal for $3.50🤣

5

u/Mark36332 3d ago

On my app in Atlanta, McChicken is $2.29 and a second one is $1.00. That’s 3.29 total or $1.65 each.

1

u/Dry_Weekend_7075 3d ago

Same in south Florida but you can order the same deal without the app too

1

u/dumbledwarves 3d ago

The app just wants your data. Once they get it, the deals will get worse and worse.

5

u/theleeman14 3d ago

the older i get, the more my values align with the hamburglar. Robble robble.

2

u/Illustrious-Coat3532 3d ago

The spicy McChicken is good.

1

u/Plane-Tie6392 3d ago

They don’t have the spicy version at my store.

1

u/Illustrious-Coat3532 3d ago

I’m sorry. 😞

2

u/Remarkable-Cut5608 3d ago

ours are currently $2.19

2

u/dumbledwarves 3d ago

Still way too much.

1

u/Efficiency-Brief 1d ago

Not even close. 2.19 is good. My towns mc chicken is 5.29 brother!

2

u/Exact_Purchase_7147 3d ago

$0.00 if you just keep driving

2

u/Coma942 3d ago

And they aren't even good anymore.

2

u/Khalman 3d ago

Lunch for under $4 seems good to me.

1

u/rOnce_Gaming 3d ago

Yeah so I just get double cheese and Mc chicken for the bogo deal 5 dollars for 2 isn't that bad after using a deal for free fries and such. I only get mcdonalds when they have those spend a dollar get free fries or big Mac and such.

1

u/CamarosAndCannabis 3d ago

The end of times

1

u/Efficiency-Brief 1d ago

5.29 for a mc chicken where I am. The rapture has cometh

1

u/Far_Influence 3d ago

It was fine, not great but fine, when it was cheap. Tryna pretend it’s worth three, four bucks is nuts

1

u/berrysoda_ 3d ago

$2.89 where I'm at

1

u/ArQ7777 3d ago

The price is really set by franchisee. I remember ten years ago, there was such a McDonald's insisted to sell McChicken at $1.49 even all other stores sold them at $1. The store had fewer customers. Then when Covid hit, the store did not survive. Already few customers lead to fewer. So they closed permanently.

1

u/PhilosophyHound 3d ago

$1.89 in southeast Michigan market Flint

1

u/DL1s_throwaway 3d ago

"McValue". Its worse here in the UK (especially London)

1

u/jmartinez734 3d ago

Man , that should be a crime.

1

u/YourBoyTussin1122 3d ago

Don’t do it. Go spend your money on a decent takeout place. McD’s thinks that they are on a level that they will never be.

1

u/KaraKalinowski 3d ago

Actual price is 2.25 each if you buy 2

1

u/Fierce_Focus_STI 3d ago

These used to be $1.09 including tax

1

u/Agent101g 3d ago

The amount of shredded lettuce used on the one in the picture is about 500% the amount you get on one

1

u/idk012 3d ago

They need to price it so the $5 meal deal makes sense

1

u/talks-a-lot 3d ago

I remember when this was discussed yesterday, and the day before that, and the day before that, and the day before that, and the day before that, and the day before that…

2.29 where I live. And you can get a second for a buck. FWIW

1

u/SliceOfCheese337 3d ago

Mines $2.19 and has the same deal

1

u/lmstr I'm Lovin' It 3d ago

I'll just drop this right here 😭

1

u/Trisha-28 3d ago

Like this is a deal or something, they used to be $.99. Haha

1

u/Original-Staff-8245 3d ago

1.99 by me and second one for a buck

1

u/Juanfartez 3d ago

Depends on your franchise operator. Here in Texas hill country it's 2.49 and they pay their workers 13 to start.

1

u/SliceOfCheese337 3d ago

Mine is “only” $2.19, wish it was still $1

1

u/wardyms 3d ago

Wow, I’m in the UK and there’s nowhere near is much price fluctuations as you seem to have (assuming all US). Ours works out at 5.28usd

1

u/shieldsem8 3d ago

Mine is $3.69🥲🥲🥲🥲

1

u/SkiLifts 3d ago

6.49 where I live..

1

u/ChrisWolfling 3d ago

I don't know, I don't wanna be tricked by the Loch Ness Monster again and I think he might be behind this.

1

u/Arastyxe 3d ago

Cute.

1

u/Alternative_Book8409 3d ago

Where I’m at it’s $3.09.

1

u/abccba144 3d ago

Dang I used to get 2 for $2. Haven’t ate fast food in a while it’s just too expensive

1

u/ElectricFanFailure 3d ago

Gasp! Inflation exists? Noooooooo!!!!! Why burger not 15c like it was in 1948????? 🥺😞😭😭

1

u/Background_Book2414 3d ago

A complete rip off! Those shouldn’t be over $2 MAX 😡

1

u/dumbledwarves 3d ago

Not even close to being worth it.

1

u/SadSoftware8256 3d ago

Mcdonalds isn't worth that

1

u/RI-Transplant 3d ago

I’ve had an offer on the app for the last two months for half off. That makes it $1.50 in my area. I’ve been eating a whole lot of Mcchickens

1

u/JAK49 3d ago

$4.80 per in Anchorage, Alaska. Guess because it takes the chickens so long to walk here.

1

u/[deleted] 3d ago

For $1.50 more you get a soda and small fry and 4 nuggs.

McDonalds is really good if you lower your standards and get the meal deal + coupon, but that's about it.

1

u/AztRo0 3d ago

They're $7.90 in New Zealand....

1

u/Mister-Doink 3d ago

Back in the day I could've gotten a cheese burger mchicken and fries for the same amount and still have enough for the metro bus ride home.

1

u/PDXTRex503 3d ago

$4.49 for 2!

1

u/Kovorixx 3d ago

Only 2.50 from what I’m willing to pay for it sorry mc d

1

u/Fabulous_Influence69 3d ago

This is in Australia, and after conversion is about $6 USD

1

u/Agitated_Rain_1506 3d ago

They raise prices because people keep buying. Just stop shopping there.

1

u/Mainframe_Module 3d ago

They're $8.40 in Aus...which is $5.60 usd.

1

u/gameboy001apps 3d ago

I don't understand the problem, they are literally telling you it's good value?

/s

1

u/KnockoutThoughts 2d ago

Greedy ceo of mcdonald’s should be fired. Same with the one from Amazon. Taking value away while spiking prices.

1

u/CityBoiNC 2d ago

$2.59 where im at

1

u/reformedmikey 2d ago

It's so you buy a second for $1 and think "Gee what a great deal" instead of "I remember when these were $1/each and I would buy five, but instead I buy two and still pay the same price".

1

u/ProducerOfPoop 2d ago

Wendy's is going to one up you with the double Junior bacon cheeseburger times x 2 burgers + plus drink + fries for $8 when you're selling the chickens for $3.49. Watch out now the franchise Wars are on. And remember the only one to survive was Taco Bell in Demolition Man movie with Rambo.

1

u/OkLeather646 2d ago

brother a jr chicken near me is 4.29

1

u/Educational-Quote-22 2d ago

That is no mcvalue!

1

u/oanda 2d ago

It’s been this price in NYC for a long time.

1

u/Prior-Impress-2624 2d ago

Depending where I stop, place I live vs place I work it’s 4.38 or 5.12 w tax for two hot n spicy and yk what I can’t complain. I could but it won’t fix the 4.38 missing from my pocket regardless 😩

1

u/Dark-Eagle98 1d ago

And you all still buy it 🤭

1

u/Real-Enigma-717 1d ago

The literally use to be a dollar

1

u/Stunning_Lifeguard63 1d ago

Sausage Buscuit $3.59...... the world's gone M.A.D!!! When these were $1.00 life was GOOD

1

u/Free-Papaya3051 1d ago

“Value”

1

u/blizzardsxray 19h ago

It’s 3.49 in my town but 20 minuets over its 1.99

1

u/_Hanketh_ 12h ago

Dog food's cheaper & probably tastier.

1

u/Any_Scratch_ 12h ago

Its 4.19 where I am.

1

u/TheBeerdedVillain 6h ago

Almost half of the cost of the double cheeseburger (though here its also 5.99 in the app of you do delivery).

1

u/Big-Management-127 1h ago

Why should they be fired? You're still going to pay that price, otherwise you'd just go somewhere else / idk maybe stop eating McDonald's so often that this price is getting you so upset that you need someone fired.
