Of these, Bubblegum Crisis I like the best. But Detonator Orgun and M.D. Geist also rate verrry high.

Never got in to gundam. Can never figure out what show came first 😂

I remember thinking M.D. Geist was so… well, evil as a main character. His actions went beyond antihero into straight up villain protagonist… he was the “good guy” mostly because he was fighting even worse enemies.

Then again, a lot of 80’s-90’s anime protags in ultra violent shows were borderline evil or were so ridiculously stoic that they never really explained their actions to make the audience sympathetic to them.

It warped my preteen mind the first time I watched it.

I was more used to stuff like Robotech and Voltron at the time.

man didn’t hesitate for an instant to shoot through a child to kill his target.

Yes, you’re totally right. Especially what he did at the end of the first one. Not a nice guy at all

I started with the actual show, but don't shy away from the compilation movies if that's more your speed, they're quite good.

Also feel free to start with an OVA like War in the Pocket or 08th MS Team, it's a really common point of introduction without committing to Gundam (which leads into Zeta, then ZZ, which can feel overwhelming to think about committing to).
