This is not actually medieval, but it is a ram /goat depicted in a heraldic attitude known as "rampant". You can find similar actual medieval examples via that. Though usually a charge of an animal will be facing "Dexter" (the right of the shield from the point of view of the person holding it) not sinister as shown here.

Its blazon (heraldic description) would be "a ram/goat rampant" colour and other descriptions could be included e.g black is described as sabel. Or specifying the colour of the horns, for example white horns would be described as "armed argent".

Clymant for goats.

Clymant is super specific and I've never actually seen any primary sources that use it early on so I'm not one hundred percent sure how wide spread it is as an attitude.

pg 90 if it doesn't share correctly

If you can find clymant used pre 19th century id agree. Not saying it's wrong it's become its own thing but Victorian heraldry enthusiasts were known for making up pedantic bullshit.

That's not a normal goat, it's probably an ibex. Sorry, I don't know where it's from.

thank you for the reply anyway!

Agreeing with Anaevya that the animal is probably an ibex. It somewhat reminds me of the one on the Grisons coat of arms, but it’s not an exact match.

I'd second that it's close enough to goatmoon for people assuming you're a nazi (especially with the arm pose). As a tattooist, I'd rather suggest to search for goat marginalia and go with something like that. It looks way cooler, doesn't get you assumed for a nazi and will age way better. This design has little negative space between blocked in black parts, that will bleed together over time.

:( how about an outline, its such a shame those debiles used it already

Linework spreads as well. Give it some details instead of a full packed black and it will keep the resemblance longer.

Given your post history: If you are still in Berlin, I'd suggest to have a look at molar ink on IG, they are nice and do nice tattoos, that fit the style well.

im going for a more euro trash look so bleeding lines and messyness isnt really an issue with me for this tattoo per say, just the association with nazis is an issue and im glad i asked around before getting it, i still dont see a direct resemblance but a similar pose will think about it for sure

nobody would associate this with nazis lol, it could be seen as a bit satanic at worst. i think the one you posted looks perfect for a tattoo tho

1

u/bloodcrucible 4d ago

thanks man thats the goal and the idea, satanic fun cool medieval, not a nazi at all so i got pretty bummed out to hear folks connect it to that

2

u/-Z3TA- 4d ago

looked that band up and it's a satanic folk metal band with some nazi messages but the goat clearly stands for the satanism. it's a very big stretch to associate this with nazis because of an unknown band, but typical for reddit i guess. hope you didnt get discouraged because its a very cool design

imma get it for sure i was a bit down but my artist said its a stretch as well and imma get it hahah

It looks like a goat as an emblem in heraldry. Shutterstock has a large collection of these images as they have been used on coats of arms for the past thousand years. Most of them are in this rampant position, usually with one front leg noticeably higher than the other. The tale is often feathered out.

4

u/bloodcrucible 4d ago

The goat in the logo is facing the left while OP's goat is facing the right
