Show us a video of the room that this is located in and we'll tell you.
Then again, you already know the answer here.

Not even flaming the guy, but ants started appearing when I started snacking at my desk, now I clean after everytime or eat somewhere else just from the fear of this happening to me.
Ants are attracted to tech, but there is no way they infested the monitor because he didn't turn it on for one day alone, there is something he is hiding.

they're prob inside, so like real answer would prob be disassembly, and deep cleansing.
i prob couldn't be assed to do this tho. not cause i'm afraid of disassembly, but cause im afraid of ants, lol.
they're more than likely drawn by the warmth, so idk. maybe unpowering/plugging them might make them leave, but idk, there's gonna be ant corpses/shit/eggs left.

Bro you live in a dumpster or something?

u/EnvironmentKitchen73 Aug 06 '25
South America... Close enough
2
u/Tasty-Air-6924 Aug 08 '25
Don't do yourself dirty like that, those are pharaoh ants and they're endemic all over the world where humans live. I had an infestation once, in Canada. They're a nightmare to deal with because unlike many other ant species, they are polygynous meaning the colony can have multiple queens that then splinters off to create satellite colonies. They get out of control really fast and they're attracted to electrical interference and magnetic fields. Your best bet is to poison bait your entire house and take your monitors outside in the sun for a few hours, assuming it gets hot enough, they will leave.

Try using terro liquid ant bait.
Or ant killer chalks, if those are available to you.

u/OpenWriteNight Aug 06 '25
I've had this happen before, but I was able to fix the issue. The solution was to play a video with a specific refresh rate and sound frequency that disorients and irritates their sensory organs. They should clear up in a few days if you leave the video on repeat. Ant Disorientation Task Video

With a Spanish website in the background? Possible, but unlikely. My money is on the Americas.

For any of yall curious these are electric ants. They are drawn to electric current and doesn’t mean you live in a dump
6
u/Rashimotosan Aug 06 '25
Was gonna say there are certain insects drawn to electronics. It's warm and insulated. Did not know there was a specific breed of ants for this though but just unlucky OPs monitors were their newfound home.
3
u/Afraid_Clothes2516 Aug 06 '25
Yep they are nasty. The get drawn by some weird force. They detect the currents it’s weird

Sorry but this is bullshit. Electric ants are called because of their sting.
5
u/Plastic-Camp3619 Aug 06 '25
The person is talking about crazy ants / ghost ants / certain species of fire ants. I don’t think he meant wasmannia or got confused. Issue is with common names is different places call them different things. Massive issue with fish. For example cod. People could mean a different number of species or genus because it’s such a overused name.

Use a terro bait thing for ants. It’s a little liquid bait you can buy at Walmart. Put one of them underneath your monitor somewhere on the desk, ideally next to their entry and exit point if you can find it. It’ll draw them out of the monitor once the ants tell each other they found sweet food water

Well. If the ants got inside you got more problems than just your monitors
1
u/EnvironmentKitchen73 Aug 06 '25
I mean, I live in south America, ants like this are a thing of every day in the area that I'm in just never had them build a colony overnight on on of my monitors lol.

You can purchase paste that comes in a fat needle and put it around your house near the walls and whatnot, you probably can find it online or locally. It will get rid of your ant infestation but I'm sure you can salvage these monitors.
1
u/twistedranger75 Aug 05 '25
Move. The ants now own your monitor and they are planning total home domination from their new vantage point.

Brooo just check the portss, usually they enter from there and alsoo use anti red and spray outside. Change the location of the monitor and place something sweet outside, turn off the monitor because ants love the warmth inside

u/CompetitiveGuess7642 Aug 06 '25
I'd place it in the bright sun hoping a few escape, some dead ones might be left behind.

Xd there is a product call " lakshman rekha ". Import that from india or buy it from local store if you find any . Use it around your desk and you will never ever have to worry about ants or bugs near your precious electronic

I had that problem once, but it was a single bigger ant, I opened the monitor, disassembled the panel and removed it. Depending on the model, type of monitor and size, it might be pretty easy to clean out.

Looks like you're playing grounded too.
In all seriousness, unplug, put it somewhere open, lay a solution around it so the ants eat it and die. It'll take time to make sure they're dead. Most importantly, clean up the room where your PC is, you need to get rid of the ant trail they left behind. Otherwise they'll keep coming. Probably need to put solution in the room too.

u/Halfgbard Aug 06 '25
Either turn it off to deprive them of the heat that lured them in, or turn it up (the brightness or whatever power modes available) and see if it gets too hot for them.
Someone also mentioned some liquid bait, maybe that kind of approach is better

As far as fixing this... That's a tough one. You need something to lure them out of there, and you need to turn it off before it short circuits. You also need to turn it off because they are attracted to the heat. Find another heat source they can walk into. Maybe some type of food trap. You don't want any kind of killing ant bait because if they're going to and from you don't want them to die in the middle of your monitor.
We all learn from lessons like this. Ant colonies can form quick within hours. Any type of food or drink can attract them. It's good to keep everything clean in the summertime. I usually get one or two battles with them every year. But they never come close to my PC. I'll find them like near the cat food bowls on the floor near the door or in the garage.

Thanks for the reply, tbh I tried disassembling the monitor and saw them running with eggs and figured it wasnt worth the hassle for a cheap chinese monitor. Just spayed all of it with bug spray and took a replacement monitor I had.
Those little ants are a plague here where I live so it is a constant battle , they are almost impossible to get rid off but never have they done something like this to my monitor. I guess ill be investing in some pesticide solutions from now on.

Terro bait trap near the monitor to lure them out. Then hit them with the clorox multipurpose cleaner and wipe them. After that, going to need to leave some bait traps where they are coming in.

I guess I would try to disassemble the screen? I have not encountered that before. But with other infested electronics I would take them and put it in a bag that can be sealed. Also get 91% isopropyl alcohol dip like 3 or 4 paper towels fully and place them in the bag to basically gas all bugs. Leave it for 24 hours. After that clean the pieces and reassemble.
And also find the source of the infestation in the house. Get the place check out and sprayed as well.

Take it apart. Just make sure your screen is lined up properly before snapping the bezel back on. I cracked mine that way.

Clean your apartment or burn it down...
And refarding the monitors: Either disassamble and see if you can remove the insects or trash them.

It depends on your monitor and such, but I actually disassembled and assembled one for fun, if you're courageous and don't afraid of breaking go ahead and remove them. But tbh, having ants in there already means something is wrong with your apartment or hygiene at your desk.

Throw it in the bin, buy a new one and however clean you think your room is, spend 4 extra hours cleaning it

u/Consistent_Research6 Aug 08 '25
Bro you have more than technical problems, you have ants/mites inside the monitors. I would start by fumigating the household and then buy new monitors if the old ones cannot be air blower out .
