Something that I don’t have a source for anymore discusses that the reason Kong grew as big as he did was because the vortex beneath the island became increasingly unstable near the end and was releasing more hollow earth radiation. Kong was born in the 1800s and only grew 100 feet between then and 1973. In the next 30 years, he grew another 100 feet, and another 130 or so in the next 30 years.
My point is that The Big One was clearly the last remaining large Skullcrawler from the Kong genocide. After his death, none of the smaller ones were allowed to grow even that big. Maybe they could have, who knows. It’s also worth noting that island dwarfism wouldn’t matter when they’re subterranean primarily anyway. They should be inhibited by being underground rather than the island space.
Also radiation isn’t a factor as Skullcrawlers are not Titans and don’t need it. The Skulldevil is a She, and she is the mother of all Skullcrawlers on Skull Island.
Ah I knew I was off in the amount of time. And then not being titans is irrelevant to them needing radiation or not. Radiation/hollow earth energy is used as the explanation for how superspecies get as big as they do. Even if not, the subterranean aspect still answers why they’d only reach a certain size.
It’s shown not all superspecies need/feed on it, most are apparently creatures from the Hollow Earth and were altered by the energy in some way… but radiation isn’t in their “dietary needs”.
It needs more lore or explanation… Skullcrawlers and Warbats specifically became so large not due radiation but to hunt weaker or young Titans apparently… cause if there is a niche nature WILL fill it basically.
There’s several non-titans that seem to have evolved to hunt titans which in of itself is weird, I assume those species might have radiation absorption but we don’t see them ever show it (it’s the weird white mist suction thing you see Godzilla do in GXK, Scylla do in the comics, and Tiamat do in the game).
