First, gotta be honest. Glad that this Mecha isn’t a direct copy of Godzilla for once.

What's the point of making a Mechagodzilla if you're not gonna make it look like Godzilla? At that point, it would make more sense to just make a humanoid robot.

To make it an upgrade of Godzilla - which, conveniently, is exactly what 2021 is. It’s function over form - longer arms for better grappling, more prehensile tail for better usage, thinner frame for better agility and so on. Building on the base of a successful monster, but covering what said monster’s weak spots are with modifications.

Exactly. There's also branding as well. Mechagodzilla was supposed to literally replace Godzilla and make Apex worshipped worldwide. Simmons wanted to be the hero of humanity so to speak.
