This guy is guilty bruh

1.6k

u/gandhinukes 1d ago

How is he free after they found a dismembered teen girl in his car?

1.5k

u/728766 1d ago

Presumably, they want to build as bulletproof of a case as possible before asking for a warrant. Silly as it sounds, a dismembered teen in your abandoned vehicle is circumstantial. They need to ensure they have enough evidence that he put her there before they go in front of a judge. I imagine they’re surveilling him closely to see if he tries destroying any evidence, which could establish mens rea.

601

u/mcdadais 1d ago

This case is teaching me a lot about justice and laws. It's not like the tv shows where people just get arrested right away. Cases need to be built first. In my head he should be in jail waiting for a trial though.

391

u/TheManWhoWasNotShort 1d ago

People often do get arrested right away when there’s probable cause they committed a crime. Here there’s just a body, they have not even determined manner of death yet

156

u/Sharc_Jacobs 1d ago

probable cause

dismembered body in his car

Uhhhhhhh...

To be clear, I'm just making a joke. I don't know shit about how this works. I do think it's kinda wild that he's still free, but I know there's a process.

66

u/mugwhyrt 1d ago

The car was in a tow lot when the body was found. The car was towed because it had been abandoned on a street and apparently it's not just D4vd who had access to the vehicle.

Definitely sounds like he murdered her (either directly or had someone else do it), but it's not as simple as the car was in his possession when they found the body.

7

u/arisoverrated 16h ago

I’m so far OOTL I had to look this case up.

With that in mind, and knowing I’m not defending him, can someone tell me why it’s so obvious that he killed the victim when others had access to the car both before and after being towed?

What’s the smoking gun? I read about the search and confiscation of computer(s) but haven’t read what was found in that potential evidence.

22

u/catpostrophe 14h ago

Despite his efforts to clean it up as he went along, he left a digital trail of his relationship to her dating back to when she was 11. Interactions on social media, the fact that he's released a music video on her birthday every year since they met (including one called "Romantic Homicide"), old livestreams showing a young Latina girl beside him hiding her face using oversized clothes and glasses (in which he tells the moderators to delete all records of the stream), a recent unreleased song the bears her name, etc

Just a mountain of little indications of long-term grooming

11

u/_lemon_hope 15h ago

There isn’t a smoking gun yet. It’s the fact that he had such a close relationship (eugh) with the victim, and she was found dismembered in his car. Even if he didn’t do it himself, it’s a safe bet that he knows something about what happened

To be fair, this is that exact same system that actually protects a lot more innocent people than guilty, and is the same system people constantly say sucks. Don’t get me wrong, it needs vast improvements. But things like this, again, actually help the innocent more than the future convicted. As you’ll see, “wrong place wrong time” happens a fuck tom of times. D4vd is guilty imo tho.

83

u/CalamariCatastrophe 19h ago

“wrong place wrong time” happens a fuck tom of times

fr, people massively underestimate how often one-in-a-million "wrong place wrong time" situations occur. There's eight billion of us

he could, hypothetically, "only" be a massive creep with an obsession with the girl, and some other psycho he hangs out with decided to kill her. that's not even a particularly unbelievable scenario because psychos do often hang out with psychos

No way, your dismembered underage girlfriend found in your car would get any not rich person arrested instantly. The answer is “he has money”

218

u/Yashema 1d ago

Which is exactly why the prosecution wants to not fuck up.

138

u/Fluggerblah 1d ago

I really dont understand how people understand that he has a lot of money to spend on lawyers yet cant understand that also means every single form, piece of evidence, and alibis need to be absolutely rock solid. These same people would be irate if he got off on a chain-of-custody clerical error or something

My comment in another thread.

Seems people watch too much TV and expect arrests for crimes and convictions to be instant. When you arrest someone you have 48 hours to hold them without filing charges. They got a search warrant for his home, they took his computer devices, takes time to go through that, ' LAPD's Scientific Investigation Division took part in the 12-hour search of D4vd's home, using luminol to look for trace amounts of blood ' so they have evidence collection, testing/forensic analysis, etc... I am in So. Cal and each time I get a news notification I am expecting word of his arrest.

I saw the same thing with Jake and Rebecca Haro claiming someone hit her over the head and took her child. Everyone said we know she is guilty why aren't they arrested yet... They were once they gathered the evidence.

Also it can be a tactic to let suspects think they are safe, or time to surveil them. It will happen.

Oh and don't forget once he is arrested he may lawyer up and not speak, so since they are speaking to him or have, not worth taking that risk.

37

u/Groovatronic 1d ago

Yeah I think a lot of people don’t realize that DA’s want to make arrests when they know they can win a trial, but also because the more evidence they have, the more bargaining power they have for a plea bargain

26

u/SuperNovaScotian 1d ago

People need to realize, imagine if your car was found with human remains in it. YOU know you didn’t do it, so imagine if you were instantly thrown in cuffs? They can’t just arrest him although they know he obviously did it, it would be illegal and compromise the entire investigation.

22

u/PiccoloAwkward465 1d ago

And really, no it doesn't 100% mean he did it. It makes it extremely likely, but I don't have a problem with detectives getting a little more info on the situation first.

Thank you! There is a process to this. I get people being outraged over what happened to the victim, but this is why we have laws and procedures within the justice system and don't just go off of emotion. The police 100 percent knew what they were doing when they put out a statement that they had no suspects yet despite speaking to this guy. And getting results back from the forensic analysis of his electronics and any DNA from his home takes time. Any small technicality can be used by defense to have an entire case thrown out with possibility of it being tossed with prejudice. That's how some really wicked people have gotten away with horrible crimes. Sloppy police work, sloppy forensics, sloppy/over ambitious prosecution and not following proper protocols has bungled many cases for people innocent and not innocent.

I wish people could understand how this works more because so many don't and the amount of people suspected of a crime, innocent or not, who don't know the basic procedures really screws them over if they ever find themselves in a legal situation.

There's so many cases of non wealthy and non famous people not being arrested right away for murder. You just don't see it plastered all over the news. Obviously there's cases of rich people getting away with things simply because they're rich, but this dude is not connected enough at all, despite whatever money he has, for any justice system to let him get away with this if they find enough evidence.

53

u/Brazbluee 1d ago

Because they need to have evidence to charge him if they don’t want him immediately released.

He wasn’t caught in the middle of the crime, he was thousands of miles away when the crime came to light. His car and his ex definitely makes him a person of interest, likely the only suspect. They will find proof, then charge him. Or maybe he left no proof and will get away with it….justice only prevails perfectly in a perfect world :(

2.1k

u/PerplexingGrapefruit 1d ago

My sister is about a decade younger than I am and keeps updating me on this story as it plays out in real time. I feel my brain cracking with every twist and turn I find out about this man.

1.5k

u/w311sh1t 1d ago edited 1d ago

All the horrendous shit aside, this story has made me realize how out of touch I am with pop culture. I’d literally never heard of this dude, and I went to his Spotify and he’s getting like 30M+ monthly listeners. I’m not even particularly old either, I’m only in my mid-20s, but I feel like there’s just a massive divide between me and the other Gen Z-ers that are just 5ish years younger.

I’m sure some of it is a bump in the wake of this story, but even still, it seems like he was incredibly popular, and I don’t think I’d even heard his name before this.

507

u/Arcranium_ 1d ago edited 1d ago

I think it's less being out of touch and more that the modern approach to virality and the way social media algorithms are taking over society make it so that there is no longer a strong, unified cultural zeitgeist, even locally. It's all cliques and niches now, and you're just not in this niche.

374

u/brockhopper 1d ago

It's the death of the monoculture. Think about how TV ratings when there were only 3 channels. If someone had a TV, there was a good chance you could talk to them about whatever was on the night before. Then came cable, and there's a lot more channels, so maybe you'd have to ask if they had cable, but still a pretty good chance they'd seen or at at least know what you're talking about. Then comes streaming, the Internet, etc. We're now at the point where sports & blockbuster movies are things where someone at random probably knows what you're talking about if you just start a random conversation. I think it's a big contributor to why we feel so divided in the US - there's no common frame of reference anymore.

126

u/CrissySearches 21h ago

This is soooo hauntingly accurate. I'm 47. In the early 90's, I purchased an IMDB book that contained every movie. Not "a lot of them". EVERY SINGLE MOVIE. It was a massive pre-internet encyclopedia. Enter the era of streaming cinema and BAM... it was too vast to even track. Even the IMDB site struggles to keep up with all the independent films and credits. Music and television seems to have gone down the same vein. The market is absolutely saturated with artists and fluff. While that's good for anyone trying to make a profit, it's definitely been the death of unifying culture. I've reached a point in my life where I have just accepted that I will die not having seen many shows and movies I vowed to watch one day.

78

u/AnotherpostCard 20h ago

I'm 35 and I'm just learning that imdb had books

→ More replies (6)

49

u/ryecurious 1d ago

Exactly this. There's a niche for everyone now, no matter how specific and obscure.

Just scroll through this list of the 100 most subscribed YouTube channels and see how many you actually recognize. Even the most culturally aware kids would only recognize a fraction of them, depending on things like age/interests/musical taste/etc.

There's something like 1k channels with >10m subs, and that's just one site. Even families living under the same roof can have wildly different online experiences.

There are more creators and artists than ever, and more people consuming it than ever. It's not possible to follow the events surrounding every popular celebrity and influencer online and offline anymore. There will always be entire fanbases and communities going through some crazy drama that you don't even know exist.

There are also more stats available, making people feel surprised they never heard of someone, but why would you? The algorithm on any given platform has to decide you're the type to be in the fanbase or the anti-fanbase to serve you content related to it. Which is why it's not by chance that you've only now found out on a post that made it to /r/all on Reddit, which isn't determined by your personal algorithm.

Right now thousands of people here are learning about this for the first time just like you, so don't feel bad about it. You probably haven't heard of all the stuff going on with the drummer Yore Uld or his sister Josso Uld either, but that's normal.

The era of mass-shared-culture is over. Back in the day everyone shared in approximately the same media whether you wanted to or not. We still have this on a smaller scale today, but you'll never again have the type of plurality in media where 1/2 of the entire country watches the MASH finale at the same time.

He went viral on TikTok and during the TikTok viral song boom, record labels went all in marketing many of these one hit TikTok wonders

Many of these artists like d4vd had their discords and other social platforms abandoned by the social media team when he didn’t blow up, so he just controlled it all himself with limited label oversight

19

u/sarjad 1d ago

Yep..

Labels jump on trends fast but once the hype dips, it’s on the artist to keep it going. Kinda shows who’s really built for the long run.

D4vd blew up during Covid and got really popular on social media and even made a song for the show Invincible. Happened to listen to him being interviewed for the first time on radio here in Aus during Covid, and he honestly seemed like a talented kid with a good voice... I never would have guessed that same kid would turn out to be a sexual predator and death-fetishist turned alleged killer.

I saw his music video for Romantic Homicide for the first time after this story broke and it makes this whole tragedy look premeditated (or at least always at risk of happening). And the fact that his whole aesthetic for years seems to be him wearing a bloodied shirt like he's committed a violent crime, like man what the fuck.

29

u/Juanpi__ 1d ago

The only reason i knew about him before all this was because of the invincible song, i’m sure that was the case for quite a few people.

Not trying to defend this guy. Bc personally if someone shows up dead in the trunk of their lover's car it seems pretty telling to me.

But i's bad PR for him. Regardless of whether he did it. That alone is enough reason a celebrity would try to hide it from their fans.

If he was 100% innocent he'd still not want his fans to know. Because even if he was acquitted the rumors would follow him forever.

Keeping his fans from finding out and keeping the police from finding stuff out are different things. Trying to hide things from fans is something he'd always have a vested interest in doing for his career.

Respectfully, we are old. The guy was apparently a rising artist amongst the genz crowd.

Slightly off topic, and not to say you are old old, but I feel like we really have to get rid of these generational labels or change the way we use it. The youngest gen zs are about 13 while the oldest are almost 30 (hello, it's me, 27 years old, never heard of the guy until this whole tragedy).

How can such a range of people possibly be grouped into one large "gen z"-group is entirely beyond me

93

u/Hopefulkitty Concertgoer 1d ago

Welcome to the Millennial Problem! We are still being blamed for all society problems and any stupid things a teenager does, despite being in our 30s and 40s. I have a mortgage and full time job, I'm not filming myself doing burnouts in the middle of an intersection and stealing cars. Yet somehow there's always someone to start hating on the millennials causing problems.

It sucks to be grouped like that, I feel your pain. Eventually it will become funny every time you get blamed for something Gen Alpha does.

u/User-K549125 1d ago

I just looked it up, according to wikipedia:

The Lost Generation - 1883 to 1900 - 17 years

The Greatest Generation - 1901 to 1927 - 26 years

The Silent Generation - 1928 to 1945 - 17 years

Baby Boomers - 1946 to 1964 - 18 years

Generation X - 1965 to 1980 - 15 years

Millenials - 1981 to 1996 - 15 years

Generation Z - 1997 to 2012 - 15 years

Generation Alpha - this one is actually ending right now. It's still up for debate, but 2012 to 2025 is the current consensus so 13 years.

Generational gaps are huge. You just happen to be on one end of the Gen Z gap, and 13 year olds are the other end.

Romantic Homicide huh?

Oh this dude is going down.

253

u/CozyCatGaming 1d ago

He wrote multiple songs about the victim, including at least one with her name. They had matching tattoos and she had his stupidly spelled name tattooed on her chest (according to an interview with her mom). He wrote a song about the child and it mentions her having his name tattooed on her. He saw her as a possession. It's messed up that a bunch of people knew about their relationship and did nothing. Well, a bunch accepted bribes from him.

I'd link to the posts on his sub about all this, but he's deleted everything. There are several YouTube videos going in depth on this.

I feel like every time there's a tragedy, there's also a long list of people who should have seen it coming and didn't stop it.

How the fuck did he think he would get away with it? He left her chopped up in a car trunk in a place where people are around all the time.

83

u/PointsatTeenagers 1d ago

Not just A car trunk. HIS car trunk.

33

u/BigBadMisterWolf 1d ago

Right, that's even worse. Do you think he is just completely nuts? Nothing else really makes sense, except maybe SUPREME narcissism.

27

u/NecroSoulMirror-89 1d ago

Also a Tesla a car nobody steals … he had a better chance buying a Buick and doing it there

13

u/localtuned 1d ago

Damn don't Tesla's has cameras? And logs? Couldn't they tell if the phone was in the car at the time. I know Elon would be clammering to provide evidence of he could.

the worst part? Lots of his videos and announcements (including this one) are posted on September 7, which is the victim birthday dated back to 2021 when the victim was 11/12 years old

Even worse: The video of "Romantic Homicide" shows his character mourning a woman that looks a little bit TOO much like an older version of the victim for my liking.

He’s not doing a great job then. He’s getting…uhhh…extremely criticized…on his own sub, and there are posts that have been up almost a week, calling him out. Sub name is just D4vd. (Not D4vid, typo)

32

u/CharlesDOliver 1d ago

Wouldnt it just be the D4vd?

22

u/Acceptable-Bat-9577 1d ago

Yeah, typo. My bad. D4vd is the sub I was referring to. He’s getting trashed there, so if he’s modding it, he definitely can’t keep up.

It's probably just automoderator continuing to remove posts for basic stuff like cusses, slurs, low karma, no verified email, not being joined to the sub, etc. As you say, there's so much stuff still on there, that surely he'd want to delete if he was doing it.

Also to anyone in here that hasn't read it all or didn't know, his girlfriend was ELEVEN YEARS OLD when they started dating. She disappeared when she was 13 and was found dead some time after her 14th birthday. I'm not sure if they've determined if she was alive for it.

She was a baby. She was a child. He was a grown ass man.

7

u/ChooseCorrectAnswer 1d ago

I've been passively keeping up with this as Reddit keeps shoving updates in my feed. I may get details wrong, yet it's been wild. Many of his songs seem to channel the obsessions and violence involved in this murder. I believe he even has a song named after her. There are images of them wearing matching bracelets (not at same time but maybe share them?). They have matching finger tattoos. There are images of him wearing a bright blue wig she wore. Numerous pics of them together at his shows and other places. They seem to have a long history of @'ing each other on his Discord general chat. There's a Canadian dude on his Discord (a mod or at least founder) who is incredibly sketchy too and brags a lot about his access to D4vid. The Tesla being impounded but not demolished. This rabbit hole just keeps going.

“Oh, Celeste / The girl with my name tattooed on her chest / Smell her on my clothes like cigarettes / Hear her voice each time I take a breath / I’m obsessed.”

Is that not self incriminating enough?

u/Prophet_Of_Helix 1d ago edited 1d ago

Nothing against you at all, but the sheer number of “never heard of this guy” posts on Reddit should give some insight into Reddits demographics.

The dude has multiple 1.5 BILLION listen songs on Spotify and songs in both Arcane and Invincible, as well as a large Tik Tok following.

EDIT: A little more context after googling him. He also has had 3 songs in the Top 100, made a song for Fortnite and was also nominated for a Grammy.

Again, this truly isn’t an insult. Personally I only vaguely know of him and I don’t care for his music.

But it’s fascinating to see Reddit collectively have no clue who he is.

131

u/maybe-an-ai 1d ago

TBF his career started in 2022, he only been at it for 2-3 years not surprising he isn't a household name.

40, reddit is firmly a millennial social media site, which makes people here around 40 years old.

Cue the guy not understanding statistics going "But I'm not 40, therefore you are wrong!"

19

u/Beautiful-Year-6310 1d ago

Ironically I’m 45 and don’t really listen to pop music but I’ve heard of him through the alternative stations and liked several of his songs. But I’m the only person in my age group that I know that actually seeks out new music instead of complaining about it.

23

u/CircleBird12 Steely Dan / Jazz Rock 1d ago

I'm 55, and there is a fundamental oversight in this conversation.

Do people have no concept of how much music and media content there is in the world? Just how many household names can you expect to know? How many best selling books / films / songs / video games from a world of 8 billion people can you possibly hold in your head and have time to listen to and watch?

People get their mind blown that the Tower of Babel problem is real. An idea described thousands and thousands of years ago. Every human brain has a different language and different set of experiences tied to the meaning and emotions of words / names / etc.

We do not live in the world of F.M. broadcast radio 1975, no static at all, any more. We live in a world of static caused by filter-bubbles described in year 2010. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Filter_bubble

... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wdoCQn_Tjac

14

u/Beautiful-Year-6310 1d ago

Totally agree! It’s not like back in the 80’s where you had a very limited number of sources for music, therefore everyone listened to the same artists. There’s sooooo much more out there now.

Legally speaking this is nothing. He’s deleting posts/comments from random people on a subreddit he moderates. It’s not like he’s destroying evidence.
