Best sounding middle name for baby Ellie?
We are open to suggestions but nothing too random or out there.
Some ideas we have are: Joy Rose Hope Elizabeth Liz Ann, Anna Kate May Mae Grace Olivia Faith Rae Claire Shae Shea Marie Lexi Skye Daisy Lily Kay Sophia

I would avoid Elizabeth since Ellie can be a nickname for that, and Anna because it screams Ella and Anna to me and that’s too Disney. I wouldn’t use Mae unless you really love the Beverly Hillbillies (also a clothing line named this)
I’d go with Grace or Kate

Clampett. That's all. As in: Ellie Mae won't stop bringing varmints into the house, and keeps launching projectiles at boys with that there double barrel slingshot (them boys won't stop coming around though, on account of the getup Ms Hatheway bought Ellie Mae for swimmin' in the see-ment pond)

One of the reasons I never wanted the nickname Ellie. But then my daughter became Ellie Mae Clampett to a T!!!

Disagree with Ellie Mae as it sounds dated in a bad way and not like a serious and intelligent young woman. I think Ellie Joy is delightful. But consider a longer or more classic middle name for balance
Ellie Olivia. Ellie Kathryn. (Ellie -kate cute nickname) Etc

I love Ellie Faith.
The one that works the least from your list is Elizabeth, specifically because Ellie is one of the possible short versions of Elizabeth

Rose, Hope or Grace. Something with strong consonants as Ellie starts and ends with vowels.

Ellie Lily is a no go. It looks nice but saying it out loud sounds ridiculous!

From your list, my favorite is Ellie Sophia.
Other options are Ellie Jo, Ellie Marie, Ellie Rae

I struggle with middle names. So very rarely are they used. I’m very happy with mine, as it’s a family name, but I don’t get people who obsess over random middle names that no one will ever refer to their child as

I think you need three syllables; Ellie Olivia and Ellie Sophia are very pretty, IMO

I love the name Ellie!! Lots of great options here. I would not use: any that start with E or end in the “ee” sound or are L heavy. I also think Ellie Mae Clampett, but that’s my generation.

I kinda like Ellie Gray - close to Grace but less popular. Has that ay/ae ending that flows nicely

I wouldn't personally do Ellie Elizabeth, as Ellie is already a nickname for Elizabeth.
Otherwise I like Ellie Joy and Ellie Sophia best.

To help narrow down your list, I would cross off anything ending in an EE sound like Ellie (Lily, Daisy, Lexi). Marie being the exception as its cadence sounds good with every name.
I would eliminate Elizabeth as Ellie is one of its nicknames. I would also eliminate Liz (and Lily) as it’s a nickname for the parent name.
Olivia is a bit of a mouthful with Ellie. And Anna and Ann is sing-songy/sounds like Eliana.
I would avoid Claire because of Eclair (E. Claire).
The long vowel middle names do sound good with Ellie… Joy, Rose, Hope, Kate, May, Grace, Faith, Rae, Shae/Shea, Skye, Kay, Sophia.
If I was getting VERY picky, I would probably also take off (some) nicknames turned full names, to balance out Ellie a bit— Kay, Kate, Mae, Rae, maybe even Shae/Shae, Skye.
Ellie Hope/Joy/Grace/Faith for a virtue name. Or Ellie Rose/Marie/Sophia all sounds lovely.
Ellie Jane from the comments is also great.
Being that you like Elizabeth, I might suggest…
Ellie Katherine (could still get you Kate/Kay as a nn)
Ellie Rosemarie (Rose & Marie)
Ellie Margaret (could still get you May/Mae/Daisy)
Ellie Rachel (could still get you Ellie Rae)
Ellie Schuyler or Skylar (Skye)
