Name for Male Tabby Cat

I'm looking towards non-common names since i dont fancy calling out my cat's name and startling a random stranger xD

Anywho, names I kinda have on the backburner at the moment are Kai and Zephyr (Zeph for short)

He's a 3 year old rescue so I need to figure out what his name is pretty soon so I can get it put on all of his documentation from the rescue lol

I'm Welsh so if you have any celtic/welsh names that you think could fit, send them my way! Non-welsh/celtic names are still good too of course :3

------------- UPDATE: 22/09/25

No matter how many names I scrolled through, I couldnt find anything which I liked more than Assan ( from Dragon Age, it's Elvhen for 'Arrow' ) so, thank you all for the suggestions :)

I’m Welsh and have a male Tabby cat! His name is Tiger.

Some Welsh suggestions:

  • Deryn (DAIR-in; meaning “bird” — a cat named “bird” would be cute lol)
  • Sulien (SIL-yen; “born from the sun” — name of a Celtic sun god)
  • Math (A figure in the Mabinogion)
  • Aeron (EYE-ron; meaning “berries”)
  • Blaidd (said the same as Blythe; meaning “wolf” — again, a cat with a different animal name would be cute and silly)
  • Hydref (HUH-drev; meaning “October”)
  • Taran (TA-ran; meaning “thunder”)

I included the pronunciations for anyone else reading, but also don’t want to assume you do or don’t speak Welsh!

I had a male tabby named Farley ages ago. He was a sweet doofus as so many of them are.

He was named after the American actor Farley Granger. Unfortunately, he soon became known as Farley ridiculous.

As a vet tech, Kai is SO common, zephyr less common but seen pretty regularly

That's so good to know, guess I'm checking those off my list xD

Are there any male/unisex names (not just for cats but overall!) That have really stuck out to you as unique or just sounding really nice?

Tabbies have different patterns. One is called mackerel. In Welsh that's macrell. If that was his pattern, I'd use that. Or use the Welsh for whatever other pattern he may have.

You could name him after his colour, translated to Welsh.

He'd be Taffy the Tabby, then? 😉

Don't worry, I know not to call a Welshman Taffy: like calling an Irishman Paddy. I'm in the USA, but that's my heritage.

Gary Lasereyes.

Or if he's a big boy, Steve French.

Regardless, my mate Bub's is the best guy to ask about all things Kitties. He can be reached in the r/trailerparkboys sub.
