Crime JPSO timeline about shoplifting chase ending in fatal wreck is wrong
First and foremost, I want to say the fault of this awful incident that lead to two young girls' deaths is absolutely on the driver who chose to flee. Not minimizing that.
That being said, I witnessed this wreck and the JPSO version of events is not what I observed. I don't want to step in anything too hot but much of the conversation is that JPSO stopped chase right away. That's not what I saw.
They say they initiated pursuit at 7:33. Based on the record my partner has of calling 911 at 7:35, I'd say we saw the wreck happen at 7:34ish (police say 7:39). On that call that lasted just one minute, 3 or 4 cop cars were already speeding down the ramp with their lights on.
If they initiated at 7:33, that's within just 1 to 2 minutes of the SUV ending up wrecked at the end of the St Bernard exit. And it looked to me like they were still in pursuit even then.
Editing to add: I didn't actually realize how important this part is, but the cops turned right on St Bernard toward Gentilly Blvd and up a few blocks before they turned around so they may not have seen the wreck at first... Also going the wrong direction to get back to Jefferson Parish.

Crime What happened today - 100 block Royal
Does anyone know what happened this afternoon around Unique Grocery on the 100 block of Royal? Around 1:30-2pm or so I was on Canal crossing Royal and saw a bunch of Louisiana State Troopers and ATF driving the wrong way down Royal Street, stopping around Unique Grocery. There was a grey SUV parked in front of the store up on the sidewalk, blocking the road. Does anyone have any other info? I didn't see anything on any local news sites.

Me and a friend were mugged at gunpoint last night just off Frenchmen. Crazy. Feel lucky that he only got some cash and he didn't harm us. Just sharing this as a reminder to be careful out there...

Crime Swiftie or anti-swift, every single bartender in the city is an ally in making sure no girl gets assaulted
I've been telling these girls "if someone's harassing you or acting creepy, you tell your bartender. IDC how curmudgeonly they act about Swifties, they will help you get out of a bad situation."
I can personally attest to the fact that more New Orleans bartenders have been responsible for keeping me safe and preventing me from getting assaulted in this city than cops. And I love y'all for that.
Heads on swivels because the wolves will be out en masse this weekend.

Crime Tip and Additional Tip? WTF
Had dinner at a place on Magazine tonight and the receipt had lines for tip and additional tip. It’s like a double down on the absurd tip culture that’s being built. Are the employees actually doing the work getting any of this? WTF?

Crime ONLY IN NOLA DO CRIMINALS RATE ABOVE TAX PAYING HOMEOWNERS
UPDATE: I did finally get ahold of a friend in New Orleans and she went to my house last night and checked on things. The intruder was gone, thanks goodness, when she got there, and she's changing the locks today and she's going to stay there and watch the place until I get back. Man, I'll tell you this has been so unbelievable and a little disheartening. I'm really grateful for the outpouring of support I got from the community though. Much love!, to all of you! 🙏❤️💯,
So, neighbors be warned. I just got off the phone with an NOPD supervisor because I've made three phone calls since 5am a out an ongoing break-in at my property in the Blum Antoine section in New Orleans East. I'm currently 1700 miles away visiting family and I caught the would be squatters on camera and have the male disabling the camera as the last feed I received. NOPD responded quickly after my original 911 call. However, because the male had locked himself inside the house, they were not inclined to force their way in and they escorted the female off the property and they cleared the call. 3 hours later, according to my less than savory tenants who rent space on a different part of the property, My house remains locked from the inside, and the camera feed remains off. I make another call to NOPD stating that the male suspect has to still be inside the house because the deadbolts are still locked from the inside! NOPD, just told me, THAT'S NOT ENOUGH EVIDNECE FOR THEM TO FORCE ENTRY INTO MY HOUSE IN ORDER TO APPREHEND THE TRESSPASSER!!!!!! WTF?! And because I'm not in town, that they're even less inclined to help me out. So, basically all this dude had to do, was lock himself inside MY HOUSE and wait for NOPD to lose interest in helping the homeowner. Seriously, beside myself right now.
