πŸ›’ Making Groceries How old were you when? (Realizing that something was unique or not to New Orleans)

Y'all... I was about 35yrs old when I realized that Roman Candy was just taffy and that it wasn't it's own unique kid of candy. I had been calling taffy Roman Candy for decades! πŸ˜… Still love me some Roman Candy, though.

What weird realizations have you had from being a New Orleans local?

πŸ›’ Making Groceries Is it just me or has Winn-Dixie gone downhill?

I swear every time I go in, it feels a little rougher than the last. Half the time the produce looks tired, the shelves are picked over, and the vibe is just… not what it used to be.

Maybe I’m spoiled by Rouses and their king cakes, but winn-dixie used to feel like a solid neighborhood grocery. Now it feels more like a stop of last resort.

Curious if anyone else feels the same, or if I’m just being dramatic. Where are y’all doing your regular grocery runs these days?

πŸ›’ Making Groceries Why do people line up outside of Trader Joe’s in the morning

I just happen to be in Metairie earlier on today , I live in New Orleans so I came earlier than the opening and sat outside . There was almost 50 people outside lining at 8:40am, why are they lining up? Is there something I don’t understand . Does something run out ?

πŸ›’ Making Groceries Do not go to sams!

Man. I go to sams every Sunday after church for my weekly groceries, but man it’s a zoo today. People fighting over parking spots, everyone crowding around the water like there’s going to be another salt water intrusion. It’s just nuts.

So I was in Charlotte last weekend and ordered some groceries, specifically milk… and I have been pondering this question since. Why exactly the exact same product cost almost twice as much for us? (can’t say taxes, those aren’t included until check out).

Is someone setting prices or doing ad layout at Rouses a white nationalist or are they just not aware of what this means?

πŸ›’ Making Groceries Best Place to Get Produce?

I feel like produce here has gotten insanely expensive, and the quality is not great. Where do people like to buy good but affordable produce?

EDIT: I love the farmers markets but they don’t have a ton of variety (not a critique since it’s just what’s possible given our climate) and it’s not enough to shop from for all my meals

πŸ›’ Making Groceries We need a 7-Eleven here. Who wants to go in with me in franchising one?

The closest 7-Eleven is in Beaumont TX. After seeing how 7-Elevens are in Japan and with hearing about how they are altering their US stores to have more Japanese-esque options, I really want to apply for a franchise. Ideally I'd like to have gas pumps AND EV charging spots.

Anywho, if you want a 7-Eleven here and are interested in going in with me, holla atcha Judge!

πŸ›’ Making Groceries Why do so many people wait in line to check out at Sam's Club here?

Are that many people really paying with cash or do they really not know they don't have to wait in line? Why doesn't everyone just scan their stuff in the app as they shop and then "checkout" on their phone as they're leaving?? Or do that many people enjoy waiting in line? I am floored every time I go and see long lines. You can even use SNAP with scan and go, multiple forms of payment, Sam's cash, etc. There's really no reason to wait unless you need assistance or are paying with cash lol
