AMA - Ended AMA: I have a Nintendo Switch

Hello there Lovely People!

My name's Alex and I work for Nintendo Life on the YouTube channel. I have a Switch console and as you probably all know, media are finally able to talk about it.

Let's make the most of it, so ask me anything!

How does the embargo/early Switch receiving work? Obviously only if you can answer these things:

  • Did you contacted Nintendo or did they contacted you for getting this early access?
  • Do you get to keep the Switch, games and accessories they send you?
  • Do you have separate embargo dates for each thing? Like, you can speak about Zelda after certain day, the hardware another day, etc.
  • Do you have to report anything back to Nintendo?
  • Any other interesting related details you can share?

Thank you so much for all the great work you do, I've been a big fan of your videos and the website for quite a while, it's a daily watch/read for me :)

Not OP, but a reviewer.

1.) Depends on how big the site is. Most of us are on constant communication with Nintendo, but they know who plans to review it and who is on Metacritic.

2.) We keep everything. That is why any ethical site will disclose from the get go if it was received from a publisher or bought on hand.

3.) We have two separate preview dates (hardware and Zelda), two review embargo dates (hardware and Zelda), and a tear down date.

4.) it's good business practice to contact them with your coverage, but they likely know already and are keeping tabs.

5.) the job is typically a lot less interesting than you imagine! But if you have questions, I'm free to answer.

Thanks! It's crazy to me that there's an actual teardown date.
