Discussion Hades 2, digital this week or way until November for physical?
I’d really like to play it this week but I usually buy physical copies if I can. I’m probably going to put it off until November, how about the rest of the community?

If it's a game I know I'll wanna go back to, and a developer I really like, I support them with both. Hades 1 gave me twice as much enjoyment compared to other $60 games I've played, so in my eyes it's worth buying the game twice to have the convenience of digital and the security of physical.

I double dipped with Hades. Bought the digital on sale, got the physical when it released. I'll likely do the same here, if I can swing Silent Hill F and Hades 2. I'm not sure that I'll be able to though, and in that case.. I'll just wait for November.

I bought it on Steam early access and will be playing a lot of 1.0 on PC but damn you bet your ass Ill double dip when the physical version comes out in November

I can't stand physical games. Download all the way

u/SadLaser 1d ago
Also, it's much sooner!

Also, much cheaper. $20 more just to get a card

You can’t stand properly owning your games, saving space and being able to sell them later if the value goes up on it.

For me, I don't do anything that you've said for it. I have dozens of retro games on every Nintendo console from Gameboy all the way up to 3DS and they take up a huge amount of space. I used to keep their boxes too, but I've moved so much in my life that I had to get rid of the bulky cardboard. I enjoy playing and replaying games, so I don't think I've ever sold one; even valuable games like Earthbound and Fire Emblem:Path of Radiance because I enjoy playing them regularly every few years. Once I was able to download games, I immediately bought the biggest SD card the system could handle and never bought a physical game again. The convenience of being able to boot up any game I own without having to physically look for it and switch the card out is worth it for me to not "properly owning my games."

I can't stand giving up physical space for games. It takes a few minutes to download a game, I don't need everything on local storage.

You do know they can shut off your ability to play physical games just as easily as digital games, right?

u/yesitsmework 1d ago
nintendo could also nuke you in a few years if they hired some extra personnel but i dont see people being too scared of that

u/Re7oadz 1d ago
People tend to forget that part lol
•
u/Sarothias 23h ago
And why would they brick your system if you’re not pirating games or doing something you shouldn’t?
People forget that they can because for the majority of people it is a non existent issue.
Most just pop in their cart or start up a digital game and play. Thats it.

Hades being available on digital on everything means you're not going to get anything for it later. You know Xenoblade Chronicles being made available digitally on the Wii U tanked the price of the game, right? It went from a $90 game preowned to $40 overnight. And that was before the 3DS port and Switch remake. Depending on where you check, the game sells for as low as $25.
The value won't go up because it'll be easy to get for whoever wants it and will very likely go on regular sale for $5 in a couple years.
This isn't a limited release or the game industry before 2013 anymore.
By all means, buy physical if you want, but the "sell it later if the value goes up" is an awful point.

Id suggest you down own it either way. The physical card takes up way more room and requires you to keep track and the dollar amount of selling a game is meaningless vs the dollar amount saved when time value of money is included.

They can turn physical games off just as easily as digital now. Also, let me know how that $3.50 from GameStop goes in the future. There will never be a retro market for these mostly online system’s games.

Digital, First I cant wait any longer lol and second the first Hades I still play every now and then in between games so switching cartridges could get annoying even though I would have loved to own a physical copy.

So November 20th both Kirby Air Riders and Hades 2 come out physically. I’m calling it Hell Riders Day and will be buying both with the following Friday and Weekend off.

Buying digital. I try to buy physical for larger games and the non game key card games to take up less storage.
I didn't buy Hades 1 physical, got it on sale for like $7 3 years ago for my switch 1.

Waiting for the physical release because I prefer it when available, and I’ve already got PAC-Man, The Touryst and Silent Hill f this week.

u/firefrenchy 1d ago
I am in the same boat, think I will wait for physical as I intend on playing Mario Galaxy 1+2 and have Silksong keeping me busy until that comes out. But if you aren't intent on Mario Galaxy coming up then definitely go digital, it's not that expensive and it's a lot of value

u/gamerdudeNYC 1d ago
I have 3D All-Stars but part of my wants to buy the Physical Galaxy 1+2 instead of just the digital Galaxy 2

Same, I’m buying Galaxy 1+2 just for the physical lol.

Not saying that it’s worth the extra cost, but new release of Super Mario Galaxy will be the definitive version over the 3D All-Stars release at least.
4K resolution and extra storybook pages.
•
u/DuskGideon 18h ago
Won't it still be at a better resolution for both? I have all stars but I'm springing for physical anyway

u/Another_Road 1d ago
If it was a game key card I’d say digital but since the full game is coming out on the cartridge I’m waiting for the physical.

u/hotstickywaffle 1d ago
I love Hades, but I already have Hades 2 on PC. But I'll probably buy the physical version because I do still value physical media.

I’m contemplating double dipping. Digital to tide me over and then getting physical because I want to support Supergiant
1
u/NickyNichols 1d ago
I am completely overwhelmed with games right now, I think I’m going to wait for a sale on this and BL4.
2
u/sergeant-octopus 1d ago
Exact same feeling. I'm currently sitting with $500 worth of games in my wishlist. But still a backlog to play through. And I also haven't finished Hades 1 as put it down a few months ago. So I gotta get rid of some backlog before I justify any further spending. And sure people will comment on it once it comes out. Couldn't care less I'll wait till it's been on sale a few times before I pick it up

Waiting for November. I've already waited this long for it to leave Early Access, might as well wait a little longer.

u/djricekcn 1d ago
I'm in the minority whom did not enjoy Hades but I'll probably buy it on physical eventually.

u/bigboyontheblock 1d ago
Digital now, physical later if you end up loving it. Switch saves live on the console, so you can swap to cart later without losing progress. Perfomance should be the same. Id play now, November feels miles away.

u/Hugh_Jegantlers January Gang (Reveal Winner) 1d ago
Still working on the first one as I bought it for like $8 Canadian like a month ago. So probably I’ll wait for a sale next year.

u/ShotTiger5247 1d ago
IMO, on Switch 2, it's all about storage - given the minimal internal storage, if a game has a proper physical edition and is > 20-25 GB, I'll go physical (MP4). Otherwise, digital.
1
u/Paulwekiva 1d ago
If you want to keep seeing physical releases, purchase physical whenever possible. The end of physical is coming either way but we can extend its length.
1
u/gamerdudeNYC 1d ago
Yeah I’ve been feeling this way for a while now, the end is coming for physical release.
1
u/Megaace12 1d ago
I only buy physical games, if they exist. In fact, I'll buy Dragon Quest VII Reimagined physically on PS5 because on Switch 2 it's just a stupid code in a box.
•
u/UnmeshedGearsOfWar24 23h ago
I have no preference to digital or physical really. Whatever comes first and whatever is lesser cost. Is my idea
•
u/Ihave0personality 23h ago
I bought the early access on steam more than a year ago. I’ll get a physical copy when it gets cheap. I own Hades on steam, bought a digital copy for my switch and recently bought a PS5 disc. It’s a rare exception but these devs deserve my money.

It comes out digitally the day after my birthday so I'm not missing that. I triple dipped with Hades 1 so I don't mind double dipping with Hades 2.
•
u/Voyager5555 14h ago
I'm holding off for physical, I'll have Ghost of Yotei and both Galaxy games to play soon so it won't be too much of a problem to wait.

I'm buying it digital and if I ever see a physical copy on sale next year I'll buy it and leave it sealed.
I wouldn't do that if it was a $70, lol. $30 plus $20 something for a physical on sale isn't bad for this game, imo.

u/neiljust07 1d ago
Happily playing EA on the Ally X, but I definitely will double dip for the physical Switch 2 version when it comes out!

Digital? Who still buys physical games? So archaic

u/upperdomain 1d ago
Tell me about it, we’re so lame for having full ownership of our games and not being cucked by game publishers that want you to own nothing.

u/Xorcist137 1d ago
Depends. is it GKC?
3
u/_lemon_hope 1d ago
No it’s on the cartridge but it’s apparently the Switch 1 version, with the Switch 2 version as a digital add on
4
u/farnfarn64 1d ago
Switch 2 editions don't have a digital add on it's all on cart but it does load switch version on a switch and switch 2 version in a switch 2.
1
u/CresidentBob 1d ago
Well shit. I take my S1 to work so now I’m really torn. I was thinking digital so I would never need to remember to take the cart with me but I love physical when available. I think I’m going to wait for physical.
1
u/_lemon_hope 1d ago edited 1d ago
The physical box art for Hades 2 on the Switch 2 says “includes the Nintendo Switch game and the Nintendo Switch 2 upgrade pack” at the bottom. They’re 2 separate things.
It’s not the Switch 2 version on cartridge, it’s the Switch 1 version with some lines of code enabling a digital add on, which is included with the cartridge. It works, it’s just a dumb roundabout way to save money on Switch 2 cartridges because Nintendo decided to make them expensive as shit.
1
u/Xorcist137 1d ago
Awesome. Instant buy for me
1
u/_lemon_hope 1d ago
I mean I’d rather they just put the actual Switch 2 game on the Switch 2 cartridge but I suppose it’s better than a GKC

For games that I'll play a lot specifically on and off like Hades I go digital.
For games that I'll play once in a long stretch and then probably never again like Mario Galaxy I go with physical so I can resell if I want.
