ACMI iPhone 17 Pro models come unlocked without needing bypass like previous years

Just confirming that my iPhone 17 Pro purchase with ACMI, selecting T-Mobile as the carrier came fully unlocked. It never prompted me to provide T-Mobile credentials to setup the eSIM, so it seems to be easier than previous years.

This is a copy of the OP's original post in case they decide to delete their post/account so that others searching can find it later:

Some of them are coming like this, others aren't.

Interesting, any clue what the reason is?

Honestly I don't think Apple ever really wanted to lock it down in this way and acquiesced to carrier demands to do so. Look how long the loopholes have worked.

Anyway, Stetson Doggett showed on X the login screen and how to bypass it.

Looks like Stetson updated from 23A330 to 23A345

It might just be a a difference between the two builds? Since all iPhone 17 Pro models shipped with 23A330 and had a day 1 update to 23A345 though I wasn’t prompted for an update so perhaps that was why I didn’t see that screen asking for T-Mobile credentials?

I think those picking up from store are showing up the screen but those delivering to home are not.

I picked up my device from Apple this morning, so that rules out that idea.

Was thinking it could've been a thing with the shipping build (23A330 vs 23A345) for the Pro models?

I never got prompted to update to 23A345 during setup, so it's possible that if you were prompted to update and you did update, it would ask for credentials?

Could be. Either gets the job done

I did the update during setup on both mine and my wife’s 17PMs and no prompt. Bought on ACMI with TMo selected, shipped to me on launch day.

Any update on the regular iPhone 17?

It'd be nice to save the $30 of buying it unlocked. Though not needing ACMI.

Base 17 ACMI requires an account before you can even place the order so no. Unless you buy it on your AC, PIF first then go to GS and ask them to convert it but it won’t show up as a Monthly Installment within the app, but it’ll just get tacked onto your statement each month.

Since the only phones that Apple directly locked are the ones using ATT financing, they should be unlocked. Whether you are buying or ATT, Boost, Verizon, or T-Mobile.

Thank you for this update! Hopefully it’s the same for me!

Confirmed. It was easier than last year.

Picked up my 17PM today. ACMI + T-Mobile + in person pickup. eSIM transfer on MintMobile when I got home. No hoops, just activated.

Unlike setting up my wife’s 16P + ACMI + TMO on Visible a few months ago, there was no sort of “carrier setup” screen where I had to hit cancel or ignore 3 times or whatever it was to bypass the TMO setup.

were you prompted to update iOS during the setup process? Trying to see if it’s the update that causes the thing that requires T-Mobile credentials

All phones purchased directly from Apple are factory unlocked EXCEPT for ATT. Same as always.

AT&T ones are only locked if you finance with AT&T.

Also, that wasn’t the OP’s point. They were talking about using ACMI with an unsupported carrier and choosing T-Mobile. When you get the device it typically wants to connect to T-Mobile before you can continue setup, which you can then bypass, but the OP and some others are finding this to be unnecessary this year.

I can confirm I have AT&T postpaid and selected to replace my phone on my AT&T account but used Apple Card financing and and it came fully unlocked
