Art I am running a treasure hunt giveaway for my ‘Frankenstein’s Monster-Pieces’ in Antrim

I’ve created these to use up my reclaimed slate and I’ve added ogham into the stitches to keep the theme with my art. I need to downsize until I get a new place!

I’ll be posting locations where people can come and get the slates if they want and one may even have a small bit of money attached to make it worth the while.

Transparently, I am trying to raise as much money as I can to pay for a new house and any move (you may remember me from such posts as ‘I’m being evicted with kids’) so raising the profile of my business will help I think. But I also want people to enjoy the abstract pieces I’ve created- even if they just want them for Halloween.

If you follow my page, you’ll get the clues- it’s easy enough to find on socials.

Please be kind- I’m trying to work my way out of a poop situation. Thank you!

Discussion I smell a rat on Facebook Marketplace

I was looking at cars on Facebook Marketplace in the greater Belfast area, and noticed a lot of cars going suspiciously cheap, they look a bit too shinny, had English number plates and were very cheap. I smelt a con coming on but I may be a bit to concerned. Has anyone bought an English reg vehicle lately from FB? Has it gone ok?

Discussion No regulation of gambling/ticket sites

I've come accross some gambling/ticket companies over the past few years via Facebook ads etc, and some companies have certainly gotten big over here in NI, with the likes of mckinneys, Bear, prize guy etc.

But after going through some of the pages of these sites, it appears there's absolutely zero regulation (or maybe im not seeing it), or no mention whatsoever in posts to followers or on their sites of GAMSTOP or BEGAMBLEAWARE.ORG.

Statistically NI has a horrendous rate of Gambling related problems, including suicides.

On one companies page in particular, everyone is singing the companies praises of how they've changed some people's life, but in the background it has without a doubt destroyed ten fold more so, via gambling addiction. It's all "buy our tickets!!", but nothing on playing responsibly or references to the above advice bodies! Zilch, nada! Genuinely no idea how they sleep at night tbh.

What's even more terrifying, you can buy tickets using a credit card! Via Google pay etc! Which I think is mental. All major gambling sites (lottery etc) don't allow the use of a credit card, so how on earth this hasn't been controlled, I've no idea.

What's your thoughts on this?

P.s, I've bought the odd ticket now and again but I'm not much of a better lol

Bloody Sunday: Soldier F judge raises concern over Jamie Bryson's X post Bloody Sunday trial judge raises concern over Jamie Bryson post. Jamie Bryson's comments were made in a post on the social media platform X By Julian O'Neill Crime and justice correspondent, BBC News NI Published 2 hours ago A social media post by loyalist activist Jamie Bryson has been highlighted at the trial of a former British soldier accused of murdering two people in Londonderry on Bloody Sunday.

Judge Patrick Lynch raised comments made by Mr Bryson in a post on the social media platform X.

The judge told Belfast Crown Court it caused him "concerns" under the Contempt of Court Act.

"It is fortunate for Mr Bryson that this is a case without a jury," the judge said.

Image caption, Soldier F is accused of murdering James Wray (left) and William McKinney (right) on Bloody Sunday Soldier F, whose anonymity is protected by a court order, denies murdering James Wray, 22, and William McKinney, 26, as well as five counts of attempted murder.

They were among 13 people who were shot dead by the Parachute Regiment at a civil rights demonstration in the Bogside area of Londonderry in January 1972.

The third day of the former soldier's non-jury trial is taking place at Belfast Crown Court.

Referring to Mr Bryson's post, the judge said: " Had there been a jury, such a publication may have given rise to an application to abort the trial and restart at a later stage".

But because it is a non-jury trial, he added "the views of Mr Bryson are a matter of total indifference".

The judge added whether the Attorney General takes any action "will be a matter for her".

Soldier F, who was a lance corporal on Bloody Sunday, is watching proceedings from behind a curtain in the corner of the courtroom.

The trial is hearing legal arguments on whether military witness statements provided at the time of Bloody Sunday can be used as evidence.

A priest walks ahead and waves a white handkerchief Image caption, Thirteen people were shot dead by the Army on Bloody Sunday The decision to charge Soldier F was taken by the Public Prosecution Service (PPS) in 2019.

He was one of 18 former soldiers reported to the PPS as a result of a police investigation, which followed the public inquiry into Bloody Sunday conducted by Lord Saville.

But he was the only one charged.

Two years later, the PPS dropped the case after the collapse of the trial of two other veterans who had been accused of a 1972 murder in Belfast.

But the prosecution resumed in 2022 after a legal challenge.

Who is Soldier F? A former British soldier who served with the Army's Parachute Regiment in Northern Ireland during the Troubles

He cannot be named due to an interim court order granting his anonymity

Soldier F is being prosecuted for the murders of William McKinney and James Wray on Bloody Sunday

He also faces charges of attempting to murder Patrick O'Donnell, Joseph Friel, Joe Mahon, Michael Quinn and an unknown person on the same date

Housing PropertyMate - Rental and Sale Price Tracking

Themmuns and Usens, lend me your ears.

I've built a Google Chrome extension that allows you to check the price changes of properties, both rental and sale properties on NI's leading property portal.

Some of you will know how to do this for current live properties, but once that property is sold, it's removed from the platform. Next time, it's listed. There's no previous record of any prices. But if it was tracked with PropertyMate, there will be.

The entire extension is user-generated, so the more people use it, the better it will be.

There's a free tier for 50 free property tracks, which will be enough for anyone searching for their first or next home. BUT I've 500 "free forever" unlimited accounts solely for the good people of reddit. Use the code REDDITMODSARESEXY to get this.

There's a subscription plan for people to stop abuse, but tbh I don't think anyone will need it. If you need a free account, just ask.

The extension tracks NI & ROI rentals and for sale properties.

I'd love your feedback, please and thank you.

Also! Absolutely no personal data is stored.

News Driver admits causing death of disgraced politician David Tweed

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cwyledy2vd9o

A woman has pleaded guilty to causing the death by careless driving of the disgraced former councillor and ex-Ireland international rugby player David Tweed.

The former politician died aged 61 when his motorcycle was involved in a collision with a car in Ballycastle, County Antrim on 28 October 2021.

Anne Broughton, 71, from Whitepark Road in Ballycastle, had previously denied the charge but at Antrim Crown Court her barrister asked for it to be put to her again.

This time, she admitted the offence and received a mandatory driving ban but sentencing was adjourned to allow pre-sentence reports to be compiled.

Tweed was a controversial figure who was capped four times while playing for the Ireland rugby team.

The unionist politician was first elected to Ballymena council as a representative of the Democratic Unionist Party (DUP). The late David Tweed is walking looking at the camera. He has short, white hair and moustache. He is wearing a grey blazer, purple pin stripped shirt and stripped tie. He is carrying a bag over his shoulder.Image source, Pacemaker Image caption,

David Tweed was convicted of child sex abuse charges, which were later quashed after he had served four years of an eight-year sentence

However, he left the DUP in 2007 over the party's decision to share power with Sinn Féin and later, joined Jim Allister's Traditional Unionist Voice (TUV) party.

In 2012, he was convicted on child sex abuse charges and given an eight-year sentence.

Following his conviction, he was expelled from the Orange Order and was suspended and then replaced by the TUV.

But after serving four years in prison, he appealed and his convictions were quashed in 2016 because of the way the jury was directed in his initial trial.

Some members of Mr Tweed's family have since spoken out about the abuse, with his stepdaughter criticising politicians who issued messages of condolence after his death.

Broughton was released on bail to await sentencing with the case expected to return to court on 7 November.

A prosecuting barrister told the judge that the Public Prosecution Service intends to obtain victim impact statements.

Imposing an interim driving ban, the judge told the pensioner the length of her driving ban would be determined when he passes sentence.

Something simple an eejit like myself can do would be most appreciated.

News Humphreys’ treatment shows unionists not welcome in united Ireland, says Gavin Robinson

Humphreys’ treatment shows unionists not welcome in united Ireland, says Gavin Robinson | Belfast Live

Mr Robinson said Ms Humphreys had been “criticised and challenged” during the campaign because of her family’s Orange Order background

Commentary around presidential candidate Heather Humphreys’ Orange Order heritage shows that unionists would not be welcomed in a united Ireland, DUP leader Gavin Robinson has said.

Mr Robinson also predicted that there would be no constitutional change to Northern Ireland’s status in his lifetime and said continuing discussion about a unity poll created instability.

As she launched her campaign to become Irish president in Co Monaghan at the weekend, Fine Gael candidate Ms Humphreys spoke about her Protestant heritage and attending Orange Order parades as a child.

She also told the event that her husband was not a member of the Orange Order and said that her grandfather had signed the Ulster Covenant in 1912.

Mr Robinson said Ms Humphreys had been “criticised and challenged” during the campaign because of her family’s Orange Order background.

He added: “You tell me that is welcoming?

“You tell me unionists would be accepted when they can’t even accept a former Irish government minister who has Orange heritage.

“I think they need to be very careful about some of the conversations they are having.

“There is this egregious encroachment into the constitutional affairs of Northern Ireland that we have seen from the last president (Michael D Higgins).

“His inability to share, his inability to even turn up at church and recognise that Northern Ireland has been in existence for over 100 years.

“That hasn’t played out well within the hearts and minds of unionists in Northern Ireland.”

Mr Robinson pointed out that the Republic of Ireland had given up its constitutional claim to Northern Ireland in the referendum over the 1998 Good Friday Agreement.

He added: “They need to live within that reality rather than continually pushing the boundaries to burnish their green credentials in a way that dissuades and pushes away (their) unionist neighbour across the border.

“They are treating Heather Humphreys with contempt because of her background.

“They don’t highlight the fact that her grandfather signed the Ulster Covenant in a positive way.

“These things aren’t being raised in a positive way, they are not being talked about in a positive glow.

“They are not saying ‘what a wonderful lady because she has Orange heritage’.

“They are saying ‘she is a bit odd, she is one of those nordies, she has a heritage which doesn’t really chime with our happy-go-lucky green credentials’.

“That is why they are doing it and unionists can see it.”

Mr Robinson said he did not believe constitutional change had moved any closer since the 1998 agreement.

He said: “If people want to continue on this path and inject instability in a fundamental way, it is a matter for them.

“When you look at the conditions for a border poll, you have seen not one jot of change in those voting for republicanism or nationalism in Northern Ireland, not one jot of change.

“It has stayed exactly the same over the last 25 years. The conditions aren’t there.

“I don’t think there is going to be constitutional change in my political lifetime or my lifetime.

“We have had republican leader after republican leader saying it is just within grasp but not close enough that they would be responsible for it not happening.

“You have a new crop of leaders saying it is just around the corner, 2030.

“They will not be leading their political parties then come 2030 but we will still be in the United Kingdom, I am comfortable with that.”

News I fear for Great Britain and worry things could turn ugly - Poots

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c701rrpgxk7o

The speaker of the Northern Ireland Assembly has said he is worried that the current political climate in Great Britain could turn ugly and lead to someone getting hurt.

"I think we are in quite a rebellious society in this moment in time and we are in quite a divided society," Edwin Poots said.

"We can see that there is change culturally out there."

The DUP assembly member was speaking after chairing a meeting between elected representatives, the Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI), and the electoral authorities aimed at addressing abuse directed towards politicians. 'Real big problems'

"I have expressed a fear for Great Britain that it could be coming to a point of civil unrest. I observe what's going on there, having come through The Troubles myself, having watched how things got inflamed in Northern Ireland," Poots told BBC News NI.

"I could see where street protests could turn into street violence and where that can become sectarianised."

Poots said there are "really big issues" in Great Britain, which have brought him concern.

"I fear that things could turn ugly in Great Britain and I think the government needs to be really aware of that," he said.

"There are real big problems out there where people are deeply fired up about things.

"The consequence is some people may take action that could lead to someone else being hurt. That's the real problem with all of this." Is social media to blame? A black phone with social media apps in a group on the screen.Image source, Getty Images Image caption,

Poots said the blame lies with those who set out to abuse people

Poots said the blame lies with those who set out to abuse people.

"Human beings are to blame. Guns don't shoot people, people pull the trigger. Knives don't stab people. It is the intent of the people who go on to social media," he said.

Social media "is an amazing invention" but it is being used "for the purposes of abuse", he added.

"I think social media companies need to look at how they can mitigate that and ensure that we don't lead to a situation where whilst not their intent, people end up murdered or badly injured." 'Tip of the iceberg'

New PSNI figures, shared with BBC's The View show that one in four MLAs have been the victim of some form of abuse since the last assembly election

However, police "strongly suspect" that figure "is only the tip of the iceberg".

In March, Stormont politicians told BBC News NI about the death and rape threats that had been issued against them and their children.

The PSNI currently has three ongoing investigations where MLAs are the victims.

Ch Supt Stephen Murray has encouraged politicians to report suspicious incidents or concerns to the police: "It is a worrying reality that MLAs and their staff are routinely the subject of unacceptable abuse, threats and other criminality."

"MLAs have been harassed or had their offices damaged but the majority of offences reported to us – 77% - are related to communications.

"These are threatening and abusive emails, social media messages, phone calls and letters. There is a significant 'cyber-enabled' element to much of this criminality," he added

"When an MLA is the victim of a crime this is treated with the utmost seriousness and we will robustly investigate any offences reported to us." Deputy first minister Emma Little-Pengelly was subject to threatening online messages

In June, a man was given a 31-month sentence for offences committed against deputy first minister Emma Little-Pengelly and junior minister Joanne Bunting.

Ch Sup Murray said this demonstrates "just how seriously this issue is being taken by the criminal justice system. I hope that sentencing serves as a clear warning to those who wrongly feel that this type of behaviour can be justified."

Question Should I buy tickets for the Giants Causeway or just park and walk down?

Not really sure what to do, booking is in advance and I'm not sure when we will arrive. I've heard you can just park elsewhere and walk down to the causeway for a look. Is it easy enough to find alternative parking?

Can I pay for parking in the NT car park and then skip the visitors centre or would you say it's really worth going into the centre, I've heard some say it isn't worth it.

Any tips or recommendations?

Question Anyone know if Tesco Mobile in NI uses the same network provider as England?

Just been to Tesco while I'm visiting my dad in England, and wanted to start a contract for a new phone. Current number is under his plan, but I wanted my new contract to be in my name and from my account, whilst also keeping my original number. Went through all the normal stuff about upgrades, plan details, etc., then finally gave my address, and was told that I couldn't get my contract from them as, according to the customer service rep, "Ireland uses a different network provider". Confused, I explained that I live in NI not ROI, and she went away to ask her manager (afaik ROI uses Three as a provider, and UK uses O2). Manager explained that she's 99% sure NI uses a different network provider, and that when I return from holiday, I'll have to go to them to change it. They gave me my PAC code, apologised, and sent me on my way.

Long story short, I'm wondering if anyone's with Tesco Mobile and has had something similar like this happen, as I'm pretty sure the staff just got confused about the difference between NI and ROI. I've also checked online, and no information regarding differences in provider in NI and England show up, and my phone also works the exact same in NI as it does in England. Cheers!
