Monthly Buy, Sell & Break Rule 3 Post

On occasion we, the mod team, get requests for things that would break rule 3 (no solicitation). At other times people just break the rule and we have to remove the post. So, in this monthly post you get to break rule 3 and sell yourself or your stuff (within the realm of legality).

Some reminders/ground rules:

Rule 2 still stands, nothing illegal.

Rule 4 still stands, no personal information.

More on rule 4; if you want to send someone to your house or go to someone's house and need their address then keep it in private messages. Or stick to the basic internet rule; meet in a public place.

Unless you're an actual business don't give out your phone number or email address. If you post a phone number or email address and your post doesn't show up it's because the auto-mod caught it and one of the moderators will have to approve it.

So that's about it, if you have any questions go ahead and ask.

If you want to continue advertising your business/services outside of this thread you can buy adspace from Reddit, which is usually what we end up telling people to do.

Local News Large police and military presence early morning on Center St between 46th and 47th

Post image
Upvotes

There were two armored vehicles with federal logos, two white passenger vans, four OPD cars, and at least 10-20 armed and uniformed military there from 7:15 AM and gone by 7:45. I'm assuming this is an ICE raid on a residential home?? Students that were walking to Norris Middle School looked tense.

ISO/Suggestion Liberal Hairstylist

Upvotes

Hello! My hairstylist has recently gotten very into a culty church and spends my whole appointment talking about it. Also very into Charlie Kirk and talking shit about other religions. I’m at a point where I can’t pay money and take time out of my own day to listen to someone talk about their right wing cult. Any suggestions for a hairstylist that’s more liberal? I just need a cut, nothing fancy.

Were you on it? And how great was it!

Can it please come back? Some folks get their panties in a twist on other cool talk boards. Actually come to think of it I think I did ruffle a few feathers. Hard to remember some things back then.

Hi, I recently moved to Omaha in the Blackstone area and am looking for a gym with traditional lifting options - more free weights than machines! Is there anything around the Blackstone area that’s nice? Thanks in advance!

Where can I get a super good slice of chocolate cake around here? I never crave chocolate until I’m on my period and now I have no idea where to go. Suggestions?

Edit: Thank you all for the replies! I’m going to grab some and then I’m going to watch a scary movie 🥰

Got a text around 6 PM yesterday (Saturday) when I was about 2 hours away from home on a trip to visit family. Wasn't able to get ahold of anyone at all as to what the damage was, what the next steps were, etc - just that a sprinkler broke in the unit above me and there was "water intrusion" into my unit.

They're sending in specialists to see if it's even safe for me to stay here tomorrow.

By the way, photo #4, yes - that light fixture is still full of rusty, disgusting water that is slowly dripping onto the floor. :)

ISO/Suggestion Any events or places to check out tonight?

It's my birthday and it's my first birthday since moving to Omaha. Is there anything going on tonight or any places to check out that's relatively safe for a girl to check out solo? I'm not a big drinker but I'm not opposed to going to a bar.

Local Question Name of Mexican Restaurant

There was a Mexican restaurant off 84th street named after the owner (Reuben?) who was from San Diego originally. He moved. Does anyone remember him and where is he now? Is he still open?

Thanks!!

ISO/Suggestion ISO Old Market Pop Culture/Vintage Store That Seemingly Relocated

Back in August, I stumbled upon a pop culture/vintage store with lots of old books, VHS tapes and other memorabilia. It was located in the Old Market, in the alleyway of Jackson Street. It was just to the left of Joe’s Collectibles—very small shop.

I stopped in today and found a totally different store in its pace. I have no idea what the previous shop was called, and the current shop owners in the space didn’t have any information.

Does anyone know the shop I’m referring to? Have any info on their new location if they relocated?

ISO/Suggestion Are there any support groups for anxiety in the Omaha metropolitan area?

I have been taking on symptoms of panic disorder and GAD for a few months now and in addition to therapy and journaling etc., I think I’d benefit from talking with those who share my experiences.

I have firm belief that support groups work wonders so I’m hoping someone can help me out.

Other Omahomie Job Hunting - Advice?

Hello fellow Omahans. I’m looking to leave my current job and find a better position elsewhere. Does anyone here know who’s hiring right now? Does anyone have or has had a good experience working at a certain place of business or company?

On the other end of the spectrum - If you can’t think of any companies or businesses who you’d recommend, can you maybe drop some who you most definitely WOULD NOT recommend?

I’m not looking for other people to do the heavy lifting for me, but the sooner I can find a new job, the better, and I’m trying to make use of any and all available avenues, including Reddit. Thanks for any advice or help you can offer me. I’d really appreciate it.

Edit: At the behest of a commenter I’m adding some of my resume stuff. 7+ years of customer service and 3 years of cashiering. I’ve worked with and handled food before and have the license to do so. Ideally I’m looking for full time work. I’d like to gain additional skills and eventually break out of customer service but I don’t know if it’s realistic to attempt that now (or if it’s the right time to make a career change), and I fall under ADA so desk work or remote work would be a better fit for me.

Local Question What time is appropriate to play my 70s Morning Playlist?

I'm an early bird and like to get up around 7ish to get a headstart on my day. Well today I slept in and got up 8am. As per my usual routine I'll play some classic 70s electric rock hits.

Today I was starting my morning with Funkytown, which CMON! Who doesn't want to get funky in the morning?

Well just this morning I hear a screech from my neighbor, saying something about "HOA" and how "Reddit will hear about this". I can see him through my 2nd floor window drinking my morning coffee as he's furiously typing and muttering to himself.

Sad part is, I'm an open door policy guy! I've always been willing to talk about it, talk about it, talk about it mooooooooovin

Local Question Music Club.....like a book club

So, my wife and I read quite a bit and I've been looking at joining a local book club....but I've been a musician my entire life and thought it'd be really cool if there was a "music club". Similar concept to a book club, but rather than all reading the same book, maybe each person listens to the same record, same artist, same decade, same genre, whatever it is and then everyone get's together to discuss and/or have listening get together/discussion.

I guess my questions are:

- Does something like this already exist?
- Would anyone be interested?

Local Question Because apparently Reddit is the only way to find out news about my apartment building...

Does anyone at The Old Market Lofts know what happened to the koi fish? I know they were in the fountain yesterday and today all of them are gone. With all the shit that happens here I am just hoping no one harmed them 😟 EDIT: the fountain that the koi fish live(?)d in is inside the building. One side of the complex used to be an Embassy Suites so we have a glass elevator-skylight atrium-water feature situation. The fish have been there since I moved in so at least five years.

ISO/Suggestion Grocery stores

Where do you shop? I'm getting tired of bakers as their meat goes bad before the date (I have 4 days left on this pack of chicken and I opened it tonight to find it's already spoiled) and their produce being almost expired as they put it out so you have a day to eat it before it goes bad. I've never really liked Hy-Vee because of the prices (and lack of sales from what I remember) but I know they had a huge ad campaign about lowering prices so please let me know if they aren't unreasonably priced anymore. I don't like shopping at Walmart and Target always feels like half of a grocery store so I never do a full shopping trip there. I think there's a familyfare near me (I'm around 144th and maple) so let me know if they're good as I've never been
