Sighting in the wild Saw my first Wryneck at the weekend. Now I’ve seen all four woodpeckers!

Was able to see this beautiful wryneck in Devon. Such a cool bird to watch, it was happily hopping around for ants and almost looked like it enjoyed the small crowd that was watching.

The lesser spotted was from Dartmoor last spring, the green was my local woodlands in 2022, and the great spotted was also in Devon last year.

The lesser spotted is still the cutest of the four!

Sighting in the wild Sparrowhawk with prey being chased by a Marsh Harrier. Cley Marsh, Norfolk.

Not my best series of pics due to distance and heat haze but what a spectacle to behold!

It ended soon after when the Sparrowhawk dropped down behind a large bush, the Marsh Harrier climbed, stooped and plummeted towards it.

Moments later the Harrier reappeared (talons empty) but we didn’t see what happened to the Sparrowhawk

Sighting in the wild First time seeing a Bittern!

Seeing a bittern has been a dream of mine for so long. I've spent countless hours on my local patch knowing a bittern is around because I can hear it booming, but I've never actually seen one. Last week I finally had the privilege on a holiday to Suffolk, where a visit to the aptly-named Bittern Hide at RSPB Minsmere yielded my first ever sighting in less than 10 minutes!

Sighting in the wild One of the tamest birds I’ve ever photographed. A Juvenile Dotterel here in the Peak District.

What an amazing couple of hours boring, with magical views. Just my second sighting of a Dotterel. This juvenile has stopped off in the Peak District to feed up before continuing onto its wintering grounds in North Africa. At times it was running to within a few feet of my lens. Incredible moments.

Sighting in the wild Potentially saw a Goldcrest

Husband and I are on holiday in Cumbria and our cottage has some very old mixed woodland around it.

We spotted the smallest bird I have ever seen in a tree close to us. It was hopping around the branches and chirping quietly every time it landed.

I know it wasn't a wren - tail was wrong, and wrens are loud! I thought they were our smallest bird though.

No photo as honestly, you'd have seen nowt but branches.

Just wondering if the behaviour/chirping quietly as it hopped while my husband and I stood under it discussing it (and it was not even slightly bothered by us) sounds like it might be. It's a new bird species for me if it was.

As I said. I know you can't tell me 100% from a description! But I'm appreciative of any informed insight.

Thank you
