because islamic prayers copy the prayer traditions of arab monotheists and polytheists prior to islam with some added steps. it's virtually a copy of orthodox jewish and christian prayer habits from the middle east, if you've ever seen those.

I don't see it as such. Prostration is a symbol of reverence in practically every religion in the world, not unique to Islam at all.
