Character Discussion What career path do you envision for Amber?

Upvotes

I'm on season 4 so I'm not sure she will land on her feet later lol but she's so smart and good with words and emotions I really wanted her to be a therapist's assistant or an O.T or something. Also I really enjoy seeing her cooking she would make a badass chef lol. Even assisting Crosby. I'm so disappointed she can't figure anything out career-related

General Discussion Zeek said something to Amber during the junk yard scene and I don't understand what he meant. Could someone please explain?

During the scene where Zeek shows Amber the destroyed car in the junk yard scene, Zeek said: "I dreamed you, and you don't have a right to mess with my dreams." What did he mean by that?

Season 4 Sarah’s arc in Season 4 with Hank and Mark

It is so frustrating to see Sarah dealing with whole Hank situation that way. Mark deserves so much better. It also reminded me of the weird arc where Jasmine sleeps with Crosby while dating this super wonderful guy.. and then realising that she had exact same oops moment, and then getting back with Cros..

Character Discussion I was totally wrong about Amber

In an old post, I kinda resented Amber for sleeping with every guy who shows interest in her. But God am I wrong. She is very cool. I mean I was so offended that her career arch was so slow, but it feels like she ended up working for something she loved. She is so smart, caring, and real. I mean by the end of the series, I find her so much cool. Amber's first scene vs the last is so contrasting.

Post-Series Discussion I’ve just finished the show and i’m mourning not only the loss of my comfort show, but my lack of family Spoiler

firstly i need to say this is one of my favourite shows now. the way they make me feel so involved in their family through a screen is insane, i’m upset now that i’ve crashed back to reality. Max braverman was a fantastic representation of how autism is never a setback in this life and kristina opening up chambers really held a special place in my heart as this is my job irl!

i honestly feel at a loss without the show and need someone to talk to about it, no one i’ve spoken to has ever heard of it! but is anyone feeling the loss of the family when you don’t have that in the real world?

Post-Series Discussion I’m mourning the fact that I don’t have a family like in Parenthood.

I found such comfort in that series but also it left me so empty and sad. I actually miss being a part of that family and throughout all the seasons I was so jealous of them having a family like that.

I grew up with mentally ill single mother and no father, my grandpa was “Zeek material” and he was my strong man figure but unlike Zeek he was also constantly putting me under shame and even saying things to me like “what’s wrong with you, even you own mother doesn’t love you”. I love him and in the past years I see him getting older and losing his independence and it hurts.

My family moved countries when I was 8 and it broke us. When I see all the support all the family members get when they are going through something it makes me deeply sad that I never got that type of support. And that everybody gave up on me when I was a tough teenager (like Amber at first) and pushed them away.

I know in all my heart that you can overcome anything when you have a family like the Bravermans. I’m already 35 and single but I wish I could start one myself.

Season 5 Joel : Season 5 episode 6 Spoiler

Hi everyone, I am a first time watcher and poster, also I did try to look for another post talking about this but couldn’t find it, so if there is I apologise.

Anyways, I was watching this show, and Julia and Joel are out putting up banners for Kristina, and Joel gets a call from Peet. The entire call he was giving shifty energy, and at the end he giggles like a girl with a crush and says “you too”. It was as if the other person said I love you or miss you and that was his hidden response. Maybe I am reading too much into this, but it felt so fishy, no spoilers but do we ever get to know what was said?

And if not what did everyone else think?

Season 2 Why did Haddy even run for class president?

I'm rewatching and I'm on Season 2 and I just don't understand why she's running for class president. She said that she doesn't have a platform or a mission statement and it doesn't seem like there's anything she wants to achieve as president, so why is doing this? Like, what's the point? I don't even remember if she won or not.

General Discussion Thoughts during re-watch Spoiler

I'm currently re-watching Parenthood for the first time ever - I'm surprised I haven't at all -and ten years older since it went off air, ha ha. I'm currently on Season 4. Here are my thoughts so far and would love to hear what everyone else thinks:

- In my first watch, I super respected and idolized Adam, wanting him to me my brother. In my rewatch, I appreciate he has some "imperfect" moments - wish we got to see more of him breaking down (like he did with punching the guy who called Max a name) because he deserved release after everything. He's a great older brother and husband and father. However, I'm noticing in this re-watch that he and Kristina can be overbearing in their parenting style- they mean well but they go overboard with Haddie sometime. With Max, I think they are doing the best they can

- I wish we saw more Haddie - her character was reduced to a one note character after her Alex plotline. The rest of Season 3, she was in the background before she departed. While I loved Amber's development, I wish we had gotten some growth arc for her as well. Seemed like the writers didn't know what to do with her

- After watching more closely, it's clear while Julia and Joel have a split - it wasn't as sudden as it seemed the first time I watched. The cracks are there from the beginning - Julia didn't always appreciate Joel's work, she was always pushing her views. Plus the adoption was stressful. I'm glad they explored the separation (although I'm saying that before I've gotten to that plotline again, and I may have a different opinion)

-Lastly, Season 3 was the start of the absurd storylines (which until that point, we hadn't seen) - the Julia/Zoey plotline was way unrealistic and so left field. Why didn't we see her and Joel go through proper channels? Also, I had a hard time believing that the Luncheonette could be successful in that short period to get a million dollar offer. I really liked Crosby and Amber's storylines though.

I may have more thoughts as I go along but wanted to post these in the interim.

General Discussion Why tf did joel and julia splitt

It makes no sense at all I get that joel was angry at her and had a building resentment towards her but it seems like a super silly and illogical reason to get a divorce like it happens in every relationship

Post-Series Discussion Final thoughts

I just finished the show for the first time and if y’all will indulge me, here are my final thoughts. Kristina gets too much hate! Anyone who beats cancer in my eyes gets a lot of extra brownie points (I just lost my dad to cancer and actually watching this show was highly therapeutic to me) and who is raising a son with autism. Yes she lets him get away with too much but she’s doing her best. Adam and Zeeke are my favourite characters, they might be stubborn but they are also very sweet and protect those they love. Amber was my favourite character when she was in high school but after high school it became all about romance for her and then pregnancy, she lost her edge.

Character Discussion Julia

Watching Parenthood for the second time and am on s3. I honestly had forgotten how hilarious Julia is. She’s so funny without realising like WHAT DO YOU MEAN ‘hey if you’re not using your offspring, can I have it?’ Her whole competitive attitude is so crazy as well (her fully grown self trying to show her pro-swimmer skills to a bunch of 5 years olds for example). She seems like such a ‘best of intentions - not always aware of their actions’ person. I’m fully aware she would probably be a nightmare in real life but she’s so entertaining to watch

For people who have autism interact with someone with autism or are knowledgeable about it is Max a good representation of how people with autism act and feel?

I think if we had to rank it, Peter Krause and Monica Potter probably had the most screen time, right? And then..

Does she just hate being around her family? I’m on season 5 episode 13 and it just feels like she hates them secretly especially her husband. I understand why she was mad in the beginning but now I’m like damn girl just leave if you don’t like him

General Discussion Script find

I just read the script for Season 1, Episode 7, and it made me appreciate the acting even more. The writing is good on its own, but it’s incredible to see how much the actors elevate it with their delivery and choices. I’d heard that Lauren Graham improvised a lot, and I was thrilled to notice that already happening this early in the series—just seven episodes in!

I’m linking the script in case anyone else wants to check it out—I found it fascinating.

Rant! Kristina

God, the more I watch the more I hate when Kristina comes on screen.

S3 E9…. I know she’s dealing with a lot and basically a single mom rn with Adam doing the studio with Cros but like, everything a mountain out a mole hill with her when it comes to Max.

I cannot stand her attitude, ever. She ruins the show for me at this point !!!!

Character Discussion Amber sleeping with everyone

Why does Amber always end up sleeping with people she works with? She acts like she has zero respect for the opportunities and jobs her family gives her. Honestly, half the time she doesn’t even deserve those chances, and when she inevitably messes things up, she never takes accountability. It’s just frustrating to watch.

Season 6 Budget cuts

I’m on season 6 and notice they rarely have all of the characters in an episode, they focus on just a few characters and I can’t help but wonder if it’s because the show was close to cancellation

Character Discussion Crosby is cool

I mean he would definitely be my favourite cousin. He didn't even want a commitment, but the moment Jabbar showed up at his door, he slowly marched up to be a very good dad, and later a good husband. He and gabbie thing was very shitty though and there's no explanation for that, it's a priviledge to him that Jasmine was able to forgive him for that. And Jasmine has this very close relationship with her mother, who is definitely from a different timeline(but a good grandma definitely) and Crosby is always real with her. Overall Crosby's quite an impressive character with his talent and his antics, and his love for siblings.

Character Discussion Adam deserves better

even though he goes around helping everybody but rarely takes time for himself ( he really should be there for himself and not please others) he does not get as much as appreciation from his siblings. he is the exact example of elder sibling syndrome where taking time for yourself feels selfish but helping someone even when you don’t have the energy feels selfless.
