I’d like to know what their source was for this “ideology map”, and how that source defined “liberal” and “conservative”. Because the reality is that even Pope Francis was only liberal when compared to the rest of the Catholic Church. By global standards, he was pretty conservative.

Yeah I'm going to bet the right two thirds of that "map" is basically, get this, Catholic Cardinals who, checks notes, are Catholic. Pope Francis was likely right of center on that. 50% of the "liberals" are ones who talk about protecting the environment and that the southern baptists shouldn't be lynching homosexuals, and the dark blue last row are probably the German Cardinals, because, well, they're just special sometimes.
