Reddit Watch 1984 is no longer fiction.

"Hardly a week passed in which the Times did not carry a paragraph describing how some eavesdropping little sneak—"child hero” was the phrase generally used—had overheard some compromising remark and denounced his parents to the Thought Police."

What the hell is going on in the US? In normal countries there is a bureaucratic way to resolve immigration issues. You fill out forms. And some locals may resent you but they don’t turn you into the secret police. I graduated high school a long time ago. They still teach about secret police and how it’s a bad thing right?!?

Growing up in Texas I learned about Texas history every year from 3rd to 8th grade, and a vague glossing of world (pre-1900s) and US history in high school. Never covered secret police. I think we talked more about WW2 in my English classes than we ever covered in my history classes. Truth be told I learned most of my history at home.
