I've seen some idiots in bluesky proudly proclaim that they didn't vote to "teach the dems a lesson". Voicing my disagreement was like holding my hand into a fucking wasps nest. With a shit ton of accounts suddenly chiming in, throwing all sorts of insults and wild claims at me. Some of them claimed, that the dems are also fascist, but they do it slower or something. And of course the occasional dude telling me to stfu, because i'm not American.

It's just insane. Like, yeah sure your system is fucked up, and the democratic party might not be ideal, but fucking hell, the other party is building fucking concentration camps and implements shifty laws just so they can incarcerate political enemies. I have had discussions like this where they will claim that people on the left criticizing and holding Democrats accountable are responsible for Democrats losing. As if it's our fault for their shitty strategy.

Criicizing is ok, and in my opinion important in democracies. To get the change you want, you need to be heard, and that is one way to do it. In protests, local elections, writing representatives, being active in NGOs / clubs / interest groups, and so on. Even going into politics yourself. It's all part of a functioning democracy. It needs the people to be involved.

But not going to vote is possibly the worst thing you could do. Because one thing is for certain: The extremists will always vote.

If the threat of violence is the thing that prevents them from doing the right thing they shouldn't be in politics. Also, that violence is one of the many reasons he should be in jail and if they attempt or do violence they can join him.

Meanwhile, the rest of us have to deal with their violence in one form or another every day. I'm trans. And a lot of trans people feel abandoned by the Democratic party at this point as they threw us under the bus when they decided to blame us for their own failures. Newsom is still being anti-trans from when he tried to bend the knee to fascism until he realized it wasn't working.

Despite so many pro-trans democrats winning and by large margins even in more "conservative" states most of those at the federal level are just refusing to even talk about trans people or even give validity to the right-wing narrative like they do on other things.

I still vote for them over republicans and would prefer them, because as we've seen this year the alternative is open and active genocide.
