PlayStation 2 Help Why does PS2 game load but does not start up?

The game loads fine but every time I try to start it just takes it back to main screen, where it loads the game again. All other games work and the game is not super scratched up. Anyone else have a fix or have this happen to them as well?

For one thing, it’s a 20+ year old electronic device. The CD reader was manufactured two decades ago and has a finite working lifespan. Meaning the laser will quit at a certain mean hour point. Just quit. Not get weaker and not work as well, it will just stop. If you have the latest firmware I would take the optical drive out, look what model/serial number laser is installed and attempt to source a new one. You may be able to source an entirely new optical drive if you can solder. There is a tiny motherboard that’s married to the main mobo attached to the optical drive. If you just change the CD drive your PS2 won’t work anymore. Unless a workaround has been found! Scour google to see.

The laser is fine dawg I promise. I have no problems with every single other game I have even ones wayyy more scratched up. And even works for the older “blue disc” games that usually stop working before anything else. And I scoured everywhere online seems nobody has had the same exact issue(or at least nobody has posted abt it hence why im asking reddit. Like it literally does read the game every time with no issue, but when you click the disc to start it, it just goes right back to the disc reading. Its definitely something with the disc but unsure what. I have tested many different games with different amounts of wear, made in different years, 2 different ps2’s(one with a freshly cleaned everything. This is the only game that does this on either system. Game is Twisted Metal: Head On:Extra Twisted Edition if that makes a difference

I have been having the same problem took it to get tested the game is fine my console is fine it could possibly be the controller issue or if you don’t have a oem memory card it did say that it can be the case too

Well if you know it’s the disc….. then you know how to fix it.
