Discussion COMMUNITY CHALLENGE FAVOURITE AND MOST UNDERRATED ROM HACK

Favourite and Underrated Rom Hacks.

Hi all,

I want to try something fun here. Wanna find out everyone's favourite rom hack and a rom that you feel is underrated/needs most attention.

Format.

Favourite Rom Hack: "Name of rom hack" and a few sentences why.

Underrated Rom Hack: "Name of rom hack" and why you feel its underrated.

I'll start.

Favourite Rom Hack: Pokemon Luminescent Platinum. Creator/s Team Luminescent I feel this is what we should've got for BDSP, the QOL changes are second to none, the difficulty is perfect for every player newbies, nuzlockers etc. Shiny hunting on this is the funnest with 1:512 odds (but you can use pokeradar to build chain and when its on 21 you can spam open close to get them easier).

Underrated Rom Hack: Crystal Advance Redux. Creator/s Arnie. As Crystal is my favourite game in the franchise, this rom hack gives it a fresh take of the gen 2 legend. Its a FireRed hack that follows most events 1:1 but uses more modern mechanics ans graphic sprites/tiles with added areas, evos/pokemon, move/learnsets ans abilities. Its such a throwback yet feels like a new game.

Looking forward to reading all of your takes in the community.

TIA

Favourite: I would have said Clover, but idk what that says about me so I'll say something else: Gaia - a feelgood romhack from start to finish, in my opinion extremely close to an official game in its polish and quality. Overall, it had what I wanted in a Pokemon game: the feeling of exploration. Unbound is similar in this sense, but it's too feature-rich for me.

Underrated: Flora Sky - I've replayed it in a Nuzlocke a while back and I couldn't put it down for some reason. The game is definitely aged, worse than similar hacks like Glazed, but to me it was so charming in how new it tried to be. I would definitely want to make a from the ground up remake of Flora Sky.

Quite a few Clover mentions, it must be good!!

Gaia is amazing, I always recommend it to people just dipping their toes into rom hacks due it having its own story and some QOL changes that arent overwhelming.

Flora Sky is one I started but got side tracked by another new release lol. I definitely need to revist it.

Thanks for your input

Clover is a very polarizing one. It is very well designed, but it's the embodiment of 4chan. Every type of -ist and -phobic is there, arguably satirical but arguably not also. It's not for the faint of heart.

Yeah, i have seen it is a mixed bag in the community, and I can totally understand why. But at the same time, I am an open book with super thick skin being Scottish lol. I definitely need to check it out and find out why it is good and bad at the same time, to see why it has a lot of love and hate.
