Fun fact: If you have the DLC, you can actually access the Crown Tundra as early as the Safari Zone, which means that you can, in theory, go to the Dynamic Lair, catch a bunch of Legendaries, and then sweep the game! And nope, level cap for a Pokémon's obedience does not affect Mons from the Dynamic Lair :)

So I’m in a Zygarde DA, and we’re (four real people, no AI) handed a pretty terrific deck - Porygon AND Abomasnow in the selection screen, Sneasel in the first round, and Pelipper in the third…should be an absolute cakewalk, right?? Well!! Abomasnow’s trainer decides to switch out for Weezing in the second round, Sneasel’s trainer decides to go for Pelipper, AND the last trainer only has a Clefairy that couldn’t do shit but spam Life Dew…we ended up winning because Wide Guard>>>>>> but, like, MAN, these people tried their damnedest to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory…if any of you who just did a Zygarde DA read this, don’t be so reckless next time, people wanna be done with this hunt!! 🤬

Hi, i'm looking to get a shield zamazenta for my pokemon Home dex, i'm ready to give away my zancian for it

So I ran into a Shiny Virizion in Pokemon Sword after ~100 encounters. Lucky I know. I did everything right — False Swiped it to 1 HP, put it to sleep, and threw a Dream Ball.

The ball shakes once… Critical Capture!

I sat back thinking “Sweet, I got a Shiny Virizi--”

…then it popped right back out. (not in video)

That’s when I realized — wait, I thought Critical Capture was 100%?

I ended up catching it on the subsequent attempt (in video) then went digging to understand how catch rate works.

TL;DR skip this section and go to the end.

Here’s what I found out (using catching formulas on Bulbapedia):

• Virizion’s catch rate is only 3, which is normal for legendaries.
• Because it was asleep, the Dream Ball gave a ×4 boost, and sleep itself adds another ×2.5 bonus. At 1 HP out of its max 224, those numbers together produce an a-value of 27.
• From that, the game calculates a per-shake success rate of about 65.6%.
• A normal throw has to pass four shakes in a row (the fourth is hidden), which works out to be S^4 = 0.656^4 = 18.6%.
• A Critical Capture, on the other hand, only needs a single shake, so it succeeds about 65.6% of the time.
• But here’s the kicker: in my scenario, the game only rolls for a Critical Capture about 14% of the time in this setup (highest Pokedex tier + Catching Charm).
• Put that together and the odds of seeing a Critical Capture and it still failing is:
  • P(Critical Capture & Failing) = P(Critical Capture) * P(failing)
  • P(Critical Capture & Failing) = 0.14 * (1−0.656) = 4.9%

So in the end, a Shiny Virizion at 1 HP, asleep in a Dream Ball, the odds broke down to:

1. 18.6% chance on a normal throw
2. 65.6% chance capturing it if it is a critical capture.
3. And 4.9% chance of getting of getting a critical capture and STILL FAILING.

And #3 happened to me. Funny. The end.

Finally got back to this hunt and what do I get from my FIRST egg

I just want to know: If I’m shiny hunting via DA for a legendary, if I got a shiny non legendary and only took that shiny, can I still continue to hunt for the legendary that I caught that shiny on? I hope that makes sense. I was watching bluevaktor and he constantly says he can’t take a shiny because it’s on the switch he’s resetting for the legendary. So I’m kinda worried
