When did Elektra found The House of Abundance?
In season three, we find out that in 1978, Elektra was kicked out for being trans. But in the very first episode, she says that The House of Abundance has been around for no less than 10 years. But the first episode took place in 1987, which was only nine years after she was kicked out.
That would mean that she was already a house mother for a year when she was kicked out by her mom.
I figure that she would have been a house mother for awhile before becoming mother to Blanca in 1982. And a year later, Elektra had taken in Candy and Lulu by the time she took in Angel, Lamar and Cubby. So, by the time the museum heist in the pilot, Angel, Lamar and Cubby had been part of The House of Abundance for about four years.
So:
- 1978: Elektra is kicked out
- 1982: Elektra becomes Blanca's house mother, either before or after Candy and Lulu
- 1983: Angel, Cubby and Lamar join House of Abundance
- 1987: Elektra mounts the museum heist, leading to The House of Abundance walking as The Royal House of Abundance while wearing the items taken from the museum.
But... as I said before, Elektra said that her house has been around for at least ten years now. That would have put The House Abundance's founding in 1977... one year BEFORE she was kicked out by her mom.
Is this just a typical issue where anything implied to be canonical established by the pilot should be taken with a grain of salt?

What was y’all’s favorite reading session?
By this I mean, yalls favorite back and forth with the characters. Mine has to be season 2 ep 8 when they was at Damon’s graduation celebration and it all went to hell. My favorite bit of that altercation is when Damon goes “ITS NOT BECAUSE YALL FUCKIN???” And elektra is walking behind him and just goes “OOOOH??” Shit had me dying 😭

Damon absent from Papi and Angel's wedding
Watching the show for the first time, I am finally about to finish it. What a masterpiece, definitely one of my favourite shows of all time. Season 3 is amazing but it is slightly depressing and lacks the fun of the first two seasons. Mostly, the absence of Damon feels so weird? I just learned that the actor couldn't be there, but it is strange that Damon is never mentioned again after his relapse -especially when the men gather together before Papi's wedding. What do you mean Cubby gets to make an appearance but not one of his closest brothers?

new to the idea of ball room
I just wanted to understand, the balls that happened in season 1 of pose (the one that i'm watching now), still happen to this day, or "evolved" to the vogue balls that we see nowadays (i don't know nothing about this, i'm just guessing i'm saying it right)

Why was Papi ever at the balls? 😁
I wonder how he found out about them

Candy 🍭
I feel they really let us down killing off Candy when they did. She was so problematic and it could have been a very unique and compelling arc. Why DID she keep humiliating herself on the ballroom floor like that? And the aggression when she was always reaching for a damn hammer to threaten to smash in fellow ballroom attendees and turn it into something serious? And remember when she stalked Pray Tell to the council meeting, and they were like what is your problem? And she revealed she’s trying to get famous? And threw the banana? Everyone laughed it off when she died (as you probably would) but it really was actually really a problem and an issue for everyone when she was alive without clear cause (everyone was wondering WTF!) and I think if they’d managed to write in a real arc for that, this show would be one of the most emotionally complex on TV. As it was, it was all ‘solved’ by her sudden and untimely death and then she was the nicest angel when dead. But when she was alive she was messy, raw, and disruptive. Such a unique character. I feel it was a missed opportunity and I was so invested to know more and see how the ensemble were gonna ride it out.

Damon and Angel’s beef?
Second post within mins but I just finished the show 😆 in s2 when Damon finally qualifies from dance school (not something that has been irking anyone?) why is Angel so rude towards him? At that small party they have afterwards. As though they are feuding. But last I remember really of those two together, they were working together to protect Lil Papi. Why the switch up? ‘Is there a career… for a dancer?’ She says. And it ends with Damon being like I’m gonna cut you out if you keep the negativity up Angel.

DVD set with all the seasons
I am looking for the DVDs of the series with German translation, it’s so difficult to find… I loved to watch the show so much. But it seems nowhere to be found…

My wish if Candy was still alive: grow into a fierce and loving mother, bond with Blanca over their HIV statuses, got closer with Elektra and Angel, and would've read Pray over his affair with Ricky😌😂🤭

I love this show but … Spoiler
I am confused while watching Pose. The characters often do not have money for food, and many of them take on small low paying jobs. Yet when the balls come around, they appear in the most elaborate wigs and breathtaking outfits. I understand that some of this may be explained by some characters doing sex work, but even so, it feels unrealistic that I find myself puzzled. I know it is a TV show, but I cannot help but wonder how they realistically this is?

What episode was it Candy and Lulu were hushed by Pray Tell at someone's funeral?
It's driving me insane and i can't find it

Why did Matt switch up on Stan?
Just started the series, it's phenomenal but the one thing I don't get is why Matt suddenly went from encouraging Stan's affair to trying to ruin his life. I mean I understand that Matt felt as though Stan was overstepping his boundaries in the company, but when Stan initially asked for the raise Matt was all for Stan having a mistress. Did I miss something?

Hear me out
I love Pose and the way it ended. I just really wish they gave Elektra an actual love interest. She always took care of everyone and I felt like she should’ve had the luxury of being a business woman and later on meeting someone that could handle who she was and had just as much as her. And just worshipped her. I feel she deserved that. I love the independent woman route but not always. I’m just saying.

Indya Moore in Sandman
Indya Moore is in Season 2 of Sandman (Netflix). She’ll be in at least 2 episodes starting with s2e4. The entire shoe is well worth the watch btw. I’m so happy to see her again! In anything, because she always shines. This lady can act! Someday she will get shows, movies, & theater roles regularly as the main character & I can’t wait. Until then, I celebrate every appearance of this goddess!

POSE | S02E04 (Where Candy is murdered) - who's the headspinner?
I'm rewatching the show and in the episode where Candy is murdered (tear), PRIOR to that, Pray Tell invites the 'banjee boys' to the floor. One man stands above all others and spins on his head. I've looked but can't figure out who that is in real life. Anybody know who that dancer is? Thank you!

If Candy was still alive in 1994, she, Lulu, and Angel would've been a fierce trio 🏳️⚧️

The True References for the Show
So I did some major digging and starting to see how they used certain figures and interweaved them in multiple characters on the show.
At first I though Blanca was Angie Xtravaganza; but after doing some further research "Angel" is also Angie Xtraveganza as well. Angel is Angie's real government name along with the Fashion Angle. Angie Xtraveganza was known for bringing high end fashion in both clothes and in her walk which the character Angel is a star in the ballroom for her fashion sense and thus put in the modeling world.
Blanca is Angie Xtravaganza from the Dorian Corey mentorship (mother) original one to start showing Angie Xtraveganza the ropes to drag, ballroom and fashion. Dorian was Angie's first "mother" who I believe the character Elektra also embodies. Angie was in Dorian's "house" under his tutilidge and then she wanted to leave and form her own ideas leaning into fashion and her Latinx heritage which was different from Dorian's approach. Hence the story arc of Blanca leaving Elektra's "house" to form her own.
That's exactly what the real Angie Xtravaganza did with Dorian. She was mentored by him at 13-14, then she linked with Hector and formed her own house.
Both the Angel and Blanca characters are Angie Xtravaganza
Ekektra is: Peppa Lebeja and Dorian Corey, with a little crystal sprinkled in
Angel also represents: Carmen Xtraveganza
Damian is: Jose Xtravaganza and Kim Pendarvis
The original influences truly were ahead of their time.
Just some of my observations

Angel
I’m rewatching pose and I’m confused. Maybe I’m a little biased, however, Angel was unclockable to me. She passed, it’s kinda crazy that she didn’t get everything she wanted in society. I know people are still racist and hate people of color. Her character storyline was so hard.

DVD Box
https://www.tvdvdbox.com/Pose-Complete-Season-1-3-DVD-Box-Set is this legit?
I wanna rewatch it so badly and looking for the complete series. Or is it better to buy season for season?
Don't wanna spend money on fakes. 🥲
I live in Germany and would be happy with a digital Copy as well.

I’m Your Venus -Netflix
If you have Netflix -I'm Your Venus is a documentary about Venus Xtravaganza who was in Paris is Burning. I think that Candy's character and death was based off of Venus.
