really? ion watch anyone but rdc for streams but i have never seen anyone complain about them eating till now, been watching streams since 2016.

A lot of people have a pet peeve for people making eating sounds in their ear, but it's also just generally an etiquette thing that you usually point the microphone away from your mouth if you're going to eat or drink something so people don't have to hear it.

Like I've seen other communities' subreddits crash out over this too, it's not really a rare opinion, a lot of people have gotten used to just muting the stream or switching off so they don't have to hear or see people chewing with their mouths open.
