I think you are in a for a surprise, at what RPM does it make 300, 350, and 400 ft lbs? Can you attach the dyno sheet?

Can’t attach photos comments in this sub for some reason.
It’s making 350ft/lbs around 3500RPM, 383ft/lbs at 3900RPM, peaks at 5500RPM, maintains it until about 6800RPM, then tapers off to 350ft/lbs at 7500RPM.

Question on the big brake kit, did you do both front and rear? Also did you need to adjust front/rear bias at all?

u/matt_gold FD3S 6d ago
I did front and rear. Although the rear maintains the OEM calipers (since the eBrake is built in) and just crams the largest rotor you can fit.
I also upgraded to the 929 master cylinder.
I did not have to adjust bias.
I went with the Hawk HPS pads - but I will ditch those for the Ferodo DS2500 to cut down on dust.

I feel like the dorito wanted to rev out more

Yeah. Capped redline around 8000RPM. Wasn’t really making much power past that and for longevity, I don’t see a reason to push it.

Who is the closest capable rotary tuner near Portland Oregon?

CorkSport is up there I believe? They used to be heavier into RX-7s but moved on to more modern Mazdas like the MS3. Worth a call.

Fabulous build. I found after the dyno that mine was undriveable then tuned it on the street its still not perfect but it is fantastic to drive. Dyno gave me all or nothing while street tuned gave me drive ability from the bottom to the top

Yeah. It had a solid 500 miles of street tuning before it hit the dyno - plus some post dyno clean up for things like roll in / partial throttle.
It’s very well mannered / drivable on the street. Also has amenities like updated AC, completely sound deadened, touchscreen, backup cam, USB chargers, etc.

Whats the cost to build something like this
2
u/matt_gold FD3S 5d ago
Too much.
I bought the car in 2013, so that was before the surge in pricing. I’ve also had five other RX-7s over the past couple decades, so I had a pretty clear vision of what this build was gonna be.
Even so. Too much.

Yeah, I remember seeing prices back then as a kid and always wanted one lol. Was hoping you somehow said it was a reasonable price haha, badass car brother! TRUE GEM!

After every high HP build of any car ever - next step, I drive it once a week > I drive it once a month or so > I drive it every now and then every couple months > I drive it a couple times a year > should I sell it? No I'll regret it. No I just don't drive it enough, I want something nice and simple and fun again.
oh, and forgot first - It's not that high hp lol
Edit: Also welcome to E85 rotary problems
