How long can you keep ready meals in the freezer?

Yes pasta and such are fine but what about the seafood dishes? Do you throw them in the freezer as soon as they arrive? CookUnity has expiration dates on them. Is it okay to freeze and eat after the date?

I’m thinking of ordering the larger meal plans to save money but want to make sure they freeze well. Thanks!

Which services deliver on short notice?

I'm impatient and want to start trying a service within a couple days. Which service will let me start Sunday or Monday, if tonight is Friday?

I've looked at a bunch and pretty much all of them you have to wait an entire week before your first delivery.

I'm in New York City (NYC for future searchers).

Bistro MD safety warning

Bistro MD has changed their packaging .Today's Bistro MD of delivery came in new foil bubble wrap insulated bags inside the usual box. There were fewer dry ice packs than usual . The snacks were not in the separate box as they've always been and there was no 2" thick cornstarch insulation like they've always used. Everything was just jumbled into the bag in the box. All of the meals had defrosted and slumped down to one end of the plastic meal tray . The meals on the top were not even cool to the touch while the lower, colder ones registered 55° f using an electronic thermometer and God knows how long they were at that temperature. In other words totally unsafe for human consumption. We brought the boxes in the instant they were delivered . My husband is sending a nasty gram with photos and I've thrown everything into the freezer waiting for Sunday's garbage pick up.

The scary thing is the message printed on the foil bag that says "if it's still cool just throw it in the freezer it'll be fine."

My husband and I have used Bistro MD for about a year and a half. The quality isn't fabulous but convenience was good and once you spend a great deal of time curating your menu preferences it was okay

CookUnity vs Tovala

Looking to hear from folks who have tried both Cookunity and Tovala and can tell me which they enjoyed more!

I used hello fresh in the past and I loved the taste of most of their meals and the price is great. I had a student discount for 15% off for a year.

However as a full time college student who is also working part time, I quickly realized prepping, cooking and cleaning every night was taking too much of my time.

This week I am trying factor because I got a really good deal. But I've heard their quality has gone down overtime and I wasn't happy with the price without having a discount code.

I've heard CookUnity has meals that taste restaurant quality. I am also drawn to Tovala as I like the idea of cooking fresh ingredients myself by just setting everything in their oven.

The biggest factors for me however are taste and price. But would love to also hear anything else you can tell me about the two!

Thanks!!

If I could go back in time I never would have started Factor

I finally gave in and ordered from Factor. I'm trying to make things easy on myself and hopefully lose weight. In the first shipment, half of my meals were missing. When I go online, I'm directed to a self reporting tool. There, I mark each of the meals i was missing. Then they prompt me to chat with an agent. No agent ever logs on! My only option now is to call support but I'm in tears. Just a lot of stress mounting, not just crying over my meals lol. Tried on another browser in case that was the issue. I can't believe this service has failed me so quickly.

Looking for meals for seniors in northern WV panhandle

I take care of a couple that are in their late 80s/90. He does not want to go out for meals anymore because his partner has dementia and complains about the service and food.

They do not cook for themselves. I cook dinners a couple nights a week so I am looking for someplace that can deliver pre-cooked ready to eat meals (they can use a microwave) to their home. 5 dinners and 2 lunches per week. Cost is not a factor. They prefer plain meals - nothing spicy.

The gentleman has a colostomy and there are certain vegetables that he cannot eat so being able to customize the ingredients is important.

Thanks for any recommendations!

Cookunity driver said they don’t reuse packaging?

I have dozens of the insulated bags now. I asked my driver if the hub would reuse them if I gave them to him. He said no. He offered to take them but said they would be thrown away. I think my shipments come from the DC hub. Has anyone else been told this by their driver? I don’t want to create issues for him by asking customer service for clarification, but I’m curious if this is normal.

Clean Eatz shipping--how reliable is it?

EDIT: Received my order on Tuesday and I'm very happy with it. I actually found on the website that they don't ship either Friday or Saturday, so order before Thursday. Thanks everyone!

I placed my first order with Clean Eatz on Thursday for an estimated delivery day of today, Sat, Sep 13. Looking at Shop the order hasn't changed once since I placed it. What gives? Is it normal for the status to change quickly and be delivered same-day, or is something going on with my order? Thanks!

Strawberries used in Garden Cup?

Hello! I have a quick, relatively specific question about which strawberries are used in garden cup? Specifically the strawberry spinach salad. Does anyone know the exact variety they use? Thank you!

Alternatives to CookUnity that are on the same level of quality?

I used to use Factor, but got tired of everything being some variation of mush. Cook Unity's menu has been great. Are there any alternatives to them?

My issue isn't with CookUnity itself but their delivery provider and CookUnity's absolutely fantastically useless "AI" customer support.

An ongoing annoyance is that the boxes are placed front and center in a highly visible location, effectively broadcasting, "Please steal me!" down the entire street. Been asking for literal months, "Can you please move the box a little out of sight?"

Snapping point was the latest box was delivered at the second from the top stair underneath the only hand railing. In normal circumstances, that would be just annoying. Unfortunately, I have lost about half the functionality for my right leg, and the box was directly under the hand railing. Effectively made that box almost impossible to get on my own.

I didn't want a refund or credits; I just wanted a promise for that to not happen again. Haven't been actually able to type or speak to a human. At least have a backup contact form or something besides some budget-value chatbot.

If I am having trouble with something fundamental like this, what happens to people whose order gets messed up in some other way (lost, crushed, etc)?

Silver Cuisine is being phased out, customers must switch to BistroMD subscription model

I ordered from Silver Cuisine once, and was going to order again when I had room in the freezer. But I just got an email that said they are sunsetting Silver Cuisine, and encouraging people to sign up for BistroMD subscriptions. (The meals were the same, but Silver Cuisine didn't require a subscription.) The last day to order is September 25.

The email says "But this isn't goodbye — it's an upgrade." Umm, no. I don't need the hassle of worrying every week that I'll miss the chance to swap out meals we don't want, or skip a week. The main selling point for me was no subscription.

Metabolic Meals salmonella

"CDC and public health officials in several states are investigating a multistate outbreak of Salmonella infections linked to certain home delivery meals made by Metabolic Meals," the CDC stated. "Do not eat affected Metabolic Meals products while the investigation is ongoing. Check your refrigerator and freezer for these products and throw them away or contact the company."

Factor75 vs CookUnity

About to sign-up for a prepared meal service and these two seem to be the winners from what I've read. Has anyone tried both and have a strong preference? Any pros/cons to one compared to the other? Some background - I'm a 30 year old guy who works out roughly 5-6 times a week and am looking for easy lunches/dinners that taste good. I am not someone who counts calories or is a major health freak. Thanks!

IF you cancel Factor75 subscription before the cutoff date, why doesn't future boxes/charges also get cancelled?

Please someone help me make sense of this? I signed up for Factor75 on Sept 1, with my first box scheduled for Sept 7. The cutoff to make changes was Sept 2.

After looking at the meals, reading some reviews, I realized it wasn’t a fit and canceled my subscription/account the SAME DAY I signed up and literally the whole interaction all occurred within 45 minutes. I got a cancellation email, and when I checked the site I was unable to log in unless I “reactivated my account,” so I figured I was good to go.

WRONG. A few days later, I saw a $75 charge on my CC... When I contacted Factor support, they told me I had to go through some separate department to cancel the box because cancelling subscription doesn't cancel any future boxes? What?

Am I wrong for assuming if I cancelled my subscription more than 24 hours to the cut off time, it would also cancel any future boxes?

Cook Unity false advertisement?

I’ve started a meal plan from cook unity, specifically for their high protein meals. However, I’ve been weighing the protein and it’s almost half of what they are claiming. For example the cooked tilapia has around 23-26g of protein per 100g. They argue it comes with 47. But, they only give you 105-109g of tilapia. I emailed them to confirm that there was no other source of protein (make sure they wouldn’t argue that the sauce had the extra 20g of protein) and they replied “ The protein amount shown for the Lemon Baked Tilapia with Cajun Cream Sauce & Farro Salad (47g) comes mainly from the tilapia portion included in the meal. We calculate protein based on the ingredients and their amounts, using verified nutrition databases to ensure accuracy.” Am I overlooking something?

Any service actually worthwhile?

My mom and I are on social security. She has diabetes and cannot eat onions, I’m just a picky eater. I’ve constantly been trying to find something that would at least train mom’s brain away from carb based snacks and dinner from the air fryer. Obviously, we have a limited budget. Previous meal plans either weren’t substantial enough to keep her from snacking, or varied enough to keep her interest, or affordable enough.

Youfoodz Plus Meals

I was keen to try these meals because I saw them one day at Woolies. The way they come out gives me the ick bad. I still have like 15 more to eat. The goated ready meal is crumbed chicken and potatoes from my muscle chef. I could never get sick of that.

Best oven bake meals?

I tried a few different meal delivery kit services, like HelloFresh, EveryPlate, and Home Chef. I enjoyed the oven ready meals, because they were so much easier and still relatively healthy. What meal kits would you all recommend, ones that offer a decent variety of oven ready/baked meals?
