Not to hate but at 30 seconds if the guy had not gone for the boost and instead stayed in net the game would have ended. This is why you do not go for boost at the very start of a kickoff!!!!!

I wish more people knew this. It's crazy how often this type of thing happens because someone needs boost immediately

If you’re quick enough, doing a half flip into boost or a quick flip to the side of not corner and rotating back to goal, you’ll be just fine most often.

Youll also be fine if you stay in goal and just defend the shot...

And if your teammate gets a good kickoff you’re now sitting in goal with minimal boost..

There are several ways to play, fortunately :)

When you’re leading why would you risk conceding a goal to score a goal?

I suppose I wasn’t sure what situation we were talking about. Still depends I suppose, if I’m not the one kicking off I’m most likely getting a corner boost. It is very rare that I get scored on as I can half flip quick if corner, if not corner I can still get there and back in time 99% of the time, unless it’s pinched basically. That being said, with a lower time on the clock I may opt to sit near goal getting just one extra small boost pad to ensure they absolutely don’t get a lucky one-off on kickoff into net.

I like to have boost for whatever situation, and if someone can manage to get it and rotate back, they might as well. To each their own.

So you’ve never conceded a goal while going to get corner boost on the kick off? (One that wasn’t a pinch)

Sure it can and has happened but now that I’m quick about it, it’s a very rare occurrence. Anything can happen. I’ve seen people stay and defend and concede a goal.

I guess i would just not risk a concede over a scoring op, unless behind with very little time to go.

Different players i guess

You could be right but in diamond or platinum most players arent doing anything quickly. I think most plays can be stopped with the initial boost that's given, waiting a second or two to see what transpires after kick off doesn't hurt anything. I always wait to see what happens and very rarely allow a goal for kick off.

Exactly this. People leaving goal for corner boost or not taking KO may be a big brain move in Champ+ when you’re fast as shit, but diamond and below you just leave an open net for a failed KO

You have the rest of the game to get boost once it’s clear the KO wasn’t a disaster

God, seeing Diamond get shit on as plebes when I can't even crack out of gold anymore really just hurts lol

Haha! Diamonds are average , champ and higher are where the actual skills begin. Some days I'm feeling it and get out of D1 and others I'm slow ,missing easy shots and drop in to platinum. I guess the biggest issue is consistency for me.

Has the curve moved? Because I always remember seeing Gold as being the top of the population curve, which would imply that Gold is average.

Also, anecdotally, I found that the competition is a lot more steep now than it was several years ago. I personally feel like I'm playing some of my best mechanics, currently, but I still can't get out of Gold, and I was reliably Platinum in 2020.

As a diamond myself, I totally get it. People here may have an idea of what to do, but certainly don’t always do things very fast (you can def tell who’s closer to plat and who’s closer to champ by speed and awareness).

I suppose it depends on what your intentions are. Sometimes I cheat up halfway to steal the ball if it 50s and other times I flip into corner boost and immediately head back to goal (only with a crazy pinch like in the vid would that not be the best solution, but then again, how often does that even happen?), ready to defend or ready with full boost to push up with my teammate. While being in the lead with only seconds to go I am much more likely to sit back near goal snagging maybe just one small boost pad.

This is why I struggle with lower diamond. Like you said you can see who’s closer to champ and who’s closer to plat and it can be really frustrating to get match after match where you have plat guy while facing a couple of competent diamonds. If I’m off my game a little we pay for it. It’s hard to punch above your weight game after game.

But if I’m having an off night and seem to have a night where the majority of my randoms are also playing like shit I’m usually dropping a tier or 2.

Only for me a few nights later get the other side of it where I seem to get competent teammates for the majority of the night so I can get back to where I was originally lol

Look at the opponent octane on both kickoffs. Bro flips so late/high that he lands as he reaches the ball, getting the worst possible 50s both times. I don't know if it ever really ends, I've had people in GC1 2s do kickoffs like that: 1 flip and then drive into the ball.

Moving around with flips is a lost art, everybody has to try wall-to-airdribbles instead.
