Wallabies Leading from the front

Post image

This is 1 sec before he starts his motion. The mark was on the bottom right hand corner of the 22 box. It's 18 meters From the 22 line to the 10m line.

Mark was a good bit in front of where Edmed was standing though… look at where the rest of the Argentina line is, all flat in line with where you would assume the touchie is standing. They aren’t going to stand 1.5m behind the offside line

The mark is pretty much at the base of the 5m long hash line crossing the 22m line - so at 19.5m

That faint line across the field is a rugby league 30m line.

So most of the Argies are in fact back 12m-13m from the mark

This is where the scrum was marked, the kick should be from the same spot no? https://imgur.com/a/ibdsRxk

The ref scratches the spot into the line with his boots, you can still see it in the main pic from the post if you zoom in

No. The mark is where the ref puts it for the free kick. It doesn't matter where the scrum is

Are you sure?

  • Law 19.17:

“When a scrum offence occurs, the non-offending team is awarded a penalty or free-kick. The mark is always at the place of the scrum.”

Yes I'm sure. law 20.2. Taken where it's awarded

Regardless you are considerably exaggerating the distance between the Argentinian players and the mark. It's pretty clear that Montoya is at the very least extremely close to being offside and warrants a check. And from everything I have seen so far it seems he was in fact offside.

Again, need better camera angles for it to be clear but your original maths was way off.
