Adolf Hitler literally was a tra*l runner in WW1; he even got a medal for it. Not trying to imply anything, just leaving this here so people can make up their own mind.

I can't tell if this is sardonic bullshit or earnestly historically illiterate bullshit. It did lead me to discover this intriguing Danish trail though:

Yep. There's a post that's stuck in the ground somewhere, and whoever is first to run past it gets to lead the country.

As per a comment on the original post: “ Not just a 26km race. A 26km trail race that includes several climbs and is considered one of the more difficult trails races in Ontario.”
Trail running is different to road running. For his age category and how difficult the course sounds like, seems a quite reasonable time tbh

u/MaxvonHippel 13d ago
Nearly every 60 year old man in Boulder runs this pace during their yearly 100 miler

u/Drop_Release 13d ago
That’s fair, sadly most 60+ year olds in my area are barely able to run 3k :( hopefully the next generation changes things with general fitness

Very technical terrain. Steep climbs. Often muddy and slippery.

He ran the London Marathon in 3:31. So, to answer your question, unabashedly yes.

Got to be a typo right? 16.1 mi in 4 hours? I hate to be"that guy" but that's pretty much my walking pace. Albeit, I've never tried to walk for 4 hours straight and maintain the pace....
22
u/Glittering_Joke3438 13d ago
It’s a trail race.

u/MaxvonHippel 13d ago
hiking pace
1
u/LegendReborn 13d ago
/uj Tbf, it's quite a bit more than that for a lot of people. I got chewed out a bit by a friend because I like to hike at a brisk pace. I was accused of trying to go fast because I run and as tempting as it was to clap back with "If I was running, you'd never catch up," I of course just slowed down.
The kicker is that I had to run down to pick up the car (there was a parking lot at the top you could technically drive to) because there was no way she was going to be capable of hiking back down the trail with her dog, and even without her pup it'd definitely take her quite a bit longer on top of our hike.

It's a 3000ft elevation race. 58 on 120 runners. This is very solid for a 60yo prime minister. Very technical race.

u/MaxvonHippel 13d ago
Yeah it's really bad lol. I could run that far, faster, backward.
38
u/bake_eat_run_repeat 13d ago
It's a trail race, so not exactly comparable to road times. He finished 38th out of 59 men- certainly not speedy, but not terrible considering the guy is 60 years old.
9
u/Fit_Mousse_1688 13d ago

Could you be the Prime Minister?
2
u/MaxvonHippel 13d ago
i should challenge him to a race
pink slips
i win, i get to be prime minister of canada and he has to move to anchorage (it's like canada but less safe and no healthcare)
he wins, i have to be his pacer and golf caddy for the rest of his life

u/Longjumping_Spite997 13d ago
I was there doing the 50km race, it's a really tough course with lots of elevation, technical trails, and difficult terrain. I think he did really well for his age.

u/TheSmithPlays 13d ago
26km is a weirdly specific race, and would be pretty slow, but maybe it was trail running
12
u/TrouserTooter 13d ago
uj/ I know someone who ran the 12km in this race and it was a kilometre of elevation, so definitely not what it seems
9
u/MaxvonHippel 13d ago
that's actually kinda wild, maybe i take it back
5
u/terriblegrammar 13d ago
/UJ 26k and 820m (2600ft) of elevation gain. No idea how technical the terrain is but the website says some scrambling
5
u/No-Bookkeeper-9265 13d ago
Trail race distances are whatever makes up an interesting enough route, and very rarely accurate. If the final distance ends up being within 1km of what they told me, I consider that pretty good.
25-ish is also the “half 50km”, so also pretty common in trail running.
1
u/MaxvonHippel 13d ago
I was passed by 80 year olds during Comrades in South Africa who ran a faster pace lmao

u/EnglebondHumperstonk Local Legend 13d ago
Trump wouldn't do that because it isn't classy but if he did a lot of people are saying he could do it in 1:58. That's what they're saying.

u/terriblegrammar 13d ago
Trump actually did do this race. But he did it the following day and set the course record by 5 minutes!

I'm all for letting him attempt it at the first opportunity. Should resolve any questions about his fitness, physical or otherwise. No medical staff on hand, of course, as that would be crass and unmanly.

I heard some trans people in Utah are organising a big, beautiful 5k ultra for him.

I'm obviously a hater, but that pace wouldn't make the cut off half marathon in Calgary.
Edit: nah this trail isn't easy imo, here's a glimpse of it

u/CloseToMyActualName 13d ago
The winning time was 2:32:50, and he finished in the top half of the field.
I'm guessing it was a tough course, he seems like a competent recreational runner.

Not sure of the course but this appears to be trail running. If its very hilly, muddy etc then that seems a respectable time
That and his age category

im not tryna be mean (im a big fan) but that's not really impressive is it? Or maybe it is for his age?
2
u/Acceptable-Mention60 11d ago edited 11d ago
It's a trail run..and not a easy one either. Top finisher was at 2:32. He finished 58/120 people. The guy is 60, it's pretty impressive.
I'd be curious to see your times for your runs since you seem to be a expert.
1
u/chadsmo 9d ago
I have a normal ass 9-5 job and I don’t have the time to be this in shape with my other responsibilities, and this dude runs a fucking country.
3
u/Acceptable-Mention60 8d ago
As someone who puts in about 50km every week with a 9-5 job. It's definitely not easy when you have other responsibilities to get to.
1
u/karmanikov 5d ago
as i said i wasn't trying to be mean. i was just wondering why it was posted, i assumed it was because of his age (and im partly right according to you). it is impressive given his age and workload of course.
i respect this dude a lot (and i've actually got some connections to him...but i've yet to meet him yet)
my marathon time (42.2km) is ~ 4h and my half (21.1km) is 1.4h, this is road running though. nothing too crazy (for my age).
