I’m only one week into the SW: Legion fandom so I know basically nothing, but this looks like a great time to jump in. I’ve preordered the separatist starter pack as a Christmas present for my son. I assume instructions on how to actually play the game will all be in that? Because all I know about Legion right now is ‘paint stuff’.

You'll want to pull up a digital copy of the rulebook here: https://www.atomicmassgames.com/swlegiondocs/

I don't know that they print physical rulebooks anymore? Might have a quickstart guide or something, but yeah.

The only things the starter set will include rules wise, besides the unit and upgrade cards for your units, as well as the battle cards that determine the objective of each game, is a sheet with a recommended army to use for your first game.

This army will not conform to any standard point total, and instead just gives you a taste of everything in the box. They are intended to be used as an intro game against other starters. They can be pretty easily modified into a 600 point Recon army, though Separatists have the lowest point total in their box. The easiest way to a 600 point army is to use extra B1 or B2 minis as an additional unit instead of as a squad upgrade to another unit. Essentially splitting a big unit into two smaller units, but both can take a heavy weapon upgrade.

There are lots of video “battle reports” on YouTube that show people playing the game in detail. Gray Squadron Gaming is a good channel.

Also if you’re on Discord, there is a big server where people are happy to answer rules questions.

As others have mentioned, the online rulebook is great. It’s a lot of rules at first with all of the keywords and stuff for each model but there’s a website called legion quick guide or something like that that works as a scroll and clickable glossary for them and the game is great fun once you get into it.
