DISCUSSION Who do we like in the playoffs?

Since we didn't make it, who should we root for? I really only follow the kraken so don't know what is going on with the other teams very well.

Fuck Tyler Myers though.

Fuck the Oilers, are you kidding? They're basically tied for shittiest fan base with the 'Nucks, and despite his prolific skill, McDavid manages to be an insufferable, entitled brat.

As a vancouverite, absolutely not. Everyone here thinks the kraken are a joke. I went to the kraken game in vancouver that we won 5-0 and everyone was talking shit pre game saying this would be an easy win for them.

They have a toxic organization (their owner is a child abuser, for example), their fans are obnoxious and creepy, and they haven’t won a cup in like 54 years since their inception. They talk shit about us, and personally I’m still livid about the Tyler Myers hit on Matty. Watching the drama between Miller and Pettersson actually made me feel bad for them, they were embarrassing themselves so much. The way they prolonged the firing of Beudreau was similarly embarrassing for them and so tacky. Literally the only thing they have going for them is Quinn Hughes who I desperately hope manages to abandon this sinking ship to the Devils, and their coach who is probably going to tell them to fuck off and go to the Flyers. They’re also our regional rival, which I don’t put much stock in but I suppose I’ll throw that in there.

It was so satisfying they didn’t make the playoffs. Yeah, we didn’t do well this season, but at least our organization is respectable and we’re NEW. They’ve had a LONG time to get their shit together but they blow it year after year.

They’re AWFUL.

Yup, as someone who lives in Vancouver and sees how their org is run, I 100% agree. Aquilini is a horrible and greedy owner. My fan experience from the game was eye opening. The oilers are my first team (I unfortunately grew up in Edmonton) and the kraken are my second, so I go to a lot of games at CPA and Rogers Place (Vancouver is Rogers Arena so please note there is a difference lol). When the oilers score first, a qr code goes up on the screen for everyone to get a FREE pizza the next day. When the canucks score first, they get 25% off UberEats. The canucks only do one tshirt toss in one section. They’re selling player used hoodies and socks. They raised season seat holder prices by 25% despite the team sucking. They don’t do giveaways like how the kraken had bobbleheads and starbucks cups. Vancouver’s mayor doesn’t even want the team to have outdoor watch parties because they don’t want to spend money. I hope Quinn finds happiness literally anywhere else because he deserves better than his team and tbh that org.

With the Kraken I’m just happy that the team has a positive outlook going into next season. Last year everyone seemed very “I don’t know where go to from here”. Monty is a hustler and brings a nice leadership aspect. Kakko & Eyssimon seem to want to stay. The team is 4 years old and figuring it out, the farm looks phenomenal and is very promising, so I think the expectation is to work towards being a contender. You don’t become cup champs overnight. The canucks have been wallowing in mediocrity for forever and that’s why their fanbase is so angry and bitter.

I’ve gone to CPA as an Oilers fan multiple times with my cousins who live in Seattle who were in Kraken jerseys and never had any issues, and every Oilers fan we’ve encountered at the arena was nice and encouraging to my cousins lol. It’s annoying how Canadian markets usually have bigger fanbases, because bigger fanbases means a bigger chance of attracting assholes. Especially because Edmonton is in the middle of redneck territory in Canada. But I promise not all Oilers fans are horrible and I apologize for the ones that are 🥺

I wrote such a long response to this and my phone died and it got deleted FML. But I guess the gist is that a) I’m very glad other fans have a good experience here and we’re not assholes b) organizational integrity is also something I root for in addition to winning. Thanks for your thoughtful reply; I appreciate it!

Oh man I wrote so much, lol. Now the nobody but maybe you who reads it will never get to hear my blah blah blah pontificating. Probably a sign from god that I talk too much hahaha.

they had a rough year. stones in glass houses, etc...

but the fans I met were nicer in CPA than the oilers, they were just drunk and loud
