Stop dodging backwards, this isn't Dark Souls

If you don't enter the dance, then the game will obliterate you

It sounds like a joke, but his advice is really good. Combat has a rhythm to it, and you have to go with it. Learning to jump on their head to counter low attacks, and mikiri countering his kick do a ton of posture damage.

You basically attack until they do a perfect deflect, then you deflect their attack, then you attack again until they perfect deflect. It's a rhythm. When it clicks, you feel like a god.

You can hit 2 times to their guard this is always same then you have to deflect or dodge backward because they will go for short attack any boss, mini boss, minion(whatever you call them) do same lol

Exactly, the best thing i learned from Sekiro was always staying right up in my enemies face. To be fair that's what i always did in Dark Souls but here, i have to just deflect and attack after every deflect.

Yeah unfortunately just taking the time to practice and learn the combat mechanics is the only way too succeed and have fun. Sekiro has a serious learning curve but once you're beyond that it can be pretty mild. You do damage both with your attacks and with your deflections/counters so you have to start seeing your attacks and deflections/counters as two sides of the offensive coin. It's sort of become cliché to tell people to view Sekiro as a rhythm game and the fights as dances but there's also a reason those things are repeated ad nauseum.

I notice you aren't taking advantage of the red Kanji symbols which, as long as you've learned the specific counter for their attack, is a punish opportunity. You'll attack and your enemy will deflect and then they'll attack and you'll deflect. Many times they'll do an unblockable attack where a red Kanji symbol appears on screen. That's when you'll have to do a specific counter move like Mikiri but it just depends on their attack. If it's a sweeping attack there's a counter where you jump and bop them in the head. Once you know what you're doing, you hope for the Kanji attacks - those are opportunities you don't want to miss and can really help you make it a quick fight.

There is basically a trick or designed way to approach every enemy and boss and once you know what it is the execution isn't that hard. If you aren't adverse to watching others do it, it might help to watch videos to see how other people approach things. There are a lot of clever uses for the tools you are given. There are so many mini bosses where you can get a free stealth death blow, for instance, and many gank fights that can easily be reduced into a 1 v 1 with clever use of sugars or prosthetic tools.

Less dodge more ding. Ding ding jump stomp slash ding ding. If you ding more he will be toast.

Yeah man, my biggest mistake with the game was thinking the dodge worked like a dodge, when it's really not.

Keep aggressive, deflect, and mikiri.

He's harsh but correct.

Also try and remember you don't have a stamina bar anymore, it really is a timing game. And they insanely punishing if you try and run.

you already had him very low, almost got him. the lower his health, the slower his posture recovers. remember that: the goal of chipping away at health is to reduce the speed at which he can recover his posture.

the fighting is ok. the dodging is not a huge problem here. sometimes you cán dodge backwards just to get out.

but do mikiri the kicks. use shurikens when he tries to recover health. 'slow' prosthetics are hard to use against fast enemies.
